I don't know, I could imagine a star of those 'Mechs perching atop a ridge looking much like actual Vultures before raining LRMs down on their opponents. As to the 'Mech itself, it's a fantastic piece of work. I'd agree that the arms and toes could use a bit of work, but overall it looks great.

Hah! Nice mod. It's like a tracked version of the Smart fourfun2.

Good job on the build, and as others have said, the scene with the boot is great!

I really like the red/orange/yellow end of the spectrum. Well done, Selander.

I thought these were great little sets, both as models and as parts packs. My wife picked up both of these (for herself ) back before Christmas, and we set them in our holiday display with the Winter Toy Shop and some other stuff. While she was putting the tree together I dubbed it the 'tree-copter' for the way it was put together. Frosty was posed at the top of the ski slope with broom raised chasing the kids down the hill.

Great amount of details big and small you packed in to that truck. Nice work!

Wonderful eight-wide! I know many people don't care for it, and it really is at the max of 'minifig scale', but for huge stuff like a big fire truck like yours I think it just fits.

Yep, if the box is banged up enough to be discount-worthy, they put a sticker on the upper-right corner with the discount and reason. For example, my Winter Toy Shop came in a 'damaged box' (looked like it was on the end of the case and something went through the case box and into the back of the set box, putting a huge gash in it, but it was taped up well and nothing was missing) so it was marked 10% off. Clearance stuff gets similar stickers. At least that's how they do it in the Boston area stores.

Awesome! You've nailed the shape, I can't wait to see it entirely green.

Avatar MINIs: Scorpion Gunship and Valkyrie Shuttle
JayDuck replied to Legostein's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
It's too bad the fans can't sit down in the ducts, but of course that's a limitation of the parts, not the builder. The rotorcraft were one of my favorite things about the movie (along with the 'AMP suit' 'mechs), and your mini version does a nice job of capturing the look of it. The shuttle is sleek and bulky at the same time. Great work as usual. -
Very nice! You got the shape bang-on, and I'll echo the others and say that the croissant-claws are genius. If you get enough drones in the same area in the original StarCraft they really look insectile and creepy, I'm sure they'll be even more creepy-crawly in SCII.

Thanks for the great review. What a thing of beauty. I never had any of the really big ships when I was young, but this was one of the sets I remember whiling away the time pouring over the catalogs and longing for. I had no idea that the ship had those inverted trans-blue windscreens.

Great stuff. It really makes quite the scene all together. The walker looks like a little 1-man version of Dr. Loveless' spider walker from the Wild Wild West movie.

Thanks for the review Big Cam. My only quibble with the model is that in attempting to make the model more detailed, it looks a bit too bulky for it's size, particularly the blasters. That's the one category where I'd say the older model wins over the new one; it's sleeker/more slender. Then again, neither one looks particularly good with the S-foils 'closed', so there's still that to be improved. These sold out pretty fast at my local Targets. A friend of mine snagged one each of the Easter impulse sets for me last Wednesday, and by the time I actually got to the store over the weekend, there were two or three X-Wings left and no RASs at all. I don't know how many the store had to begin with, but judging by the number of City sets there, I'd doubt it was a tiny number. Since there's already one waiting for me, I didn't pick up any more in the hopes that maybe some little kid might get to find some Lego in their Easter basket.

Ta da! I even found places to put the extra parts; the 1x1 round ended up next to the exhaust stack, and the second lever makes a good piston for the bucket. The toughest part was getting the turntable lined up so I could attach the house (main structure) to the final drive (wheels).

What I do is pretty much a combination of Big Cam and Roncanator's methods. After I cut the seals (tape/glue) on the side flaps, I flatten the boxes, and then store the smaller boxes in larger (non-flattened) ones. This allows me to store the packaging for several sets in the space of a single large box. I also put the instructions and other paperwork from each set in a bag that some part of the set came in and bundle all my paperwork bags in a different Lego box. I find this to be a good compromise between keeping most of what comes with the sets and not losing all my available space. The rigid plastic stuff (Tiny Turbos, Mini Creator sets, Bionicle canisters, etc.), on the other hand, either gets reused for Lego storage or tossed in the recycling bin.

Set 7183, found on a google search, fake or not?
JayDuck replied to Big Cam's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I saw this a while ago on The Brothers Brick, but it's still awesome. All I did when I proposed was to take my wife back to the place we met. I feel so uncreative in comparison to that guy. Then again, if I start now, I've got two and a half years to whip up something for our tenth anniversary. -
Does any one know where this minifigure comes from?
JayDuck replied to FinalFeature's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Oh wow. I don't know if those were customs or just limited-run promo pieces done for the team by TLG, but they certainly are rare, if BrickLink is anything to go by. I'm inclined to think they came straight from Lego, since there have also been two Duplo bricks with the Red Sox logo on them, but the picture of the torso at peeron does look like the logo is a decal rather than being printed directly on the torso, so without more information I suppose it's hard to conclude either way. I came across the BrickLink catalog entry for the minifig a while ago after I found out about the Sox Duplo, and I think they're great. Unfortunately, I don't have any info beyond those two links. I'd love to get my hands on one, but if the BL price guide is any indication, they're way out of my price range ballpark. I mean, we're talking over the Monster, across Lansdowne, and out on to the Pike kind of distance. Congratulations, that's quite a find! GO SAWX! -
Your english is hurting, this doesn't make sense. I don't want to turn this into a 'pile on Big Cam' discussion, because I doubt he meant to pick on Dr. Kilroy, but I don't think the the good Doctor was really that far off. If you change 'do' to 'did' and replace 'comply' with 'compare' to make it read "Did you compare them with your pieces?", the question is just fine. It's just a little problem with verbs, which aren't exactly the easiest part of the English language to work with. Now, with that sorted out, back to discussing the potential hazards of unmarked Lego.

Mercury Cougar 1973
JayDuck replied to Mr Muscle's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Is that a 460 with dual quads?* What a great model. Chock full of details, and it really captures the look of the real thing. I really like the fat & skinny tires, headers, duals, and the hood scoop for the 'souped-up' look. And I wouldn't worry about not hiding the studs. It might be the 'in thing' for some prominent builders, but if you take a look through this thread, it seems like most people (at least the ones who responded to the question) like to see some studs. *I made that guess before reading the description on brickshelf. In my defense, a 460 is pretty similar to a 429CJ. -
For someone who was unaware of BSG when you started, you did a fantastic job. Great ship!
-
Wow, those are great! The proportions of the HK-Tank seem a little off to me, it looks somewhat too narrow. However, given the limitations of the Lego track links, it does look good, and you've captured all the distinctive details of the machine, so it's easily recognizable. The HK-Aerial is pure ABS awesome. Those droid cylinders look like they were made especially to be HK engines. Very well done indeed.

What made you get out of your LEGO dark age?
JayDuck replied to BearHeart's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The #7140 X-Wing put an end to my roughly 10-year dark age in 1999. After 20 years, finally getting real Star Wars Lego? It was awesome. -
Lego, bring back the alternate builds and "Just Imagine" slo
JayDuck replied to Forresto's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I certainly think that for the most part, bringing back alternative builds would be a good thing. Small sets and troop builders can sell themselves, but for larger sets, the back of the box seems to me like a lot of wasted potential. I understand that they want to show the numbered bags/easy build, but does that need to take almost a third of the available space? And what's the deal with "HEY!"? More lost space in my opinion. Keep the action shots, certainly, but toss in a few alternates to inspire the imagination. If parents 'have' to have instructions, maybe post some online? Or just go back to the old 'instructions included for main model' disclaimer, but show that there are other ways to combine the parts in the set. Otherwise, it seems to me that what you get is some-assembly-required Playmobil. -
Like many others, I like to see some studs showing. I can appreciate studless builds, but I like to be able to see the Lego-ness of my creations.
