  1. Very nice! Great colors (my main pirate ship is also white and blue), and I enjoy to aft design as well.
  2. I added some paper sails for effect. ^_^ I'd like to make some cloth sails but don't want to commit until the design is finalized. @Sebeus Nice! Polacca would me an interesting design, I'd like to see how you worked it. I've been eager to make a Xebec style, just because I've been sorta mesmerized by the overall shape of the vessels since I first started learning about them. And that is a great example! It makes me feel jealous and inferior. @IamF4u5t I'm not fond of the colors right now either, but I'm reaching into what feels like the bottom of the barrel these days :p The cabin is especially awful, I intend to redesign it, which will likely include raising the deck somewhat, giving me more room to work with inside. As for mast height, they could use a little extension, but at the same time the Xebec style sort of allows for short masts.
  3. That's fantastic use of plant foliage! Makes me want to invest in more plant parts and ramp up the realism on my islands.
  4. This is my double masted merchant Xebec. Right now she features four crew members, two cargo holds, a removable quarterdeck to reveal a small crew quarters, as well as a lifting crane and a small cannon for defense from scurvy ridden pirates! I haven't named it yet, and I still want to make improvements and modifications (need to buy a few things), plus take any suggestions from you guys! I'd like to make the aft a little prettier and I was going to try to get some prince of persia guys and make them arab traders.
  5. Thanks for the suggestions! I rebuilt the bow to be closer to the hull and it is higher up. I agree, it looks much better. The color of the deck will be changed to all tan soon, the windows on the stern will be lattice and I also plan to have yellow piping along the edge of the stern in similar fashion to Perfectionist's Achille. These modifications will not be possible until I have some spare cash for a bricklink order (new brakes and rotors. Goodbye, spending money!) I've also added headrails to the bow, but they are white for now until I can replace them all with yellow. I see there are mixed feelings on the color scheme. My choice of a yellow for the main stripe was from the HMS Surprise in Master and Commander. Granted the rest of the ship was brown, but what am I to do when most of the LEGOs I own come from the era of yellow, red and blue? They're just the standard cannons from Pirates I, most likely from SES, and I added the wheels.
  6. The HMS Typhoon is a frigate operating in His Majesty's Royal Navy. She is a 24 gun ship, with two 10 cannon broadsides, 2 cannonades on the bow and two movable 12-pounders on the quarterdeck (not finished). Using CGH's guide as a starting point, I did modify the design somewhat by moving the lowest section of the base forward so there is a more gentle but higher curving motion towards the rear, thus making the sides look more natural and not having any bulky top heavy cabin + quarterdeck. Right now the masts are somewhat unstable, despite my best efforts. I'm currently working on some supports and the ship will feature full rigging and sails upon completion, however I would like to be able to make any changes from any of your suggestions before I commit to tying down everything on board . Because of my intention to full rig this ship, no the deck is not removable and there is no defined interior. I simply don't have enough cannons to fill all the bays, and this ship is for display purposes anyway. A few final matters I need to get in order to finish the main ship is I need to order 20 yellow flags to conceal the cannon bays and 2 wide center sections (I had to custom make some for building because I only have 3), so I'll be placing a bricklink order soon as well. Once again I apologize in advance for some grain/blur in the pictures, still workin on that new camera! This ship has consumed almost every useful lego I own, so help me to make it perfect!
  7. Okay, so I've made some changes, removed the statue and replaced it with a flag tapestry on the wall. I've also added the Admiral holding a feather pen while the Captain banters with an Imperial officer and one of the Captain's sailors chats with the soldier on the battlements.
  8. Red Coats all the way. (Although I wish I had some bluecoats... for them to KILL)
  9. The most logical reasoning I can thing of is that is was the 20th anniversary of the launch of pirates so they really wanted to give it a good homage. Also, they know that all the 2009 Pirate sets are going to be collectibles.
  10. Amazing! As many others have said before me, its about time there was huge Imperial Ship. In my opinion the Imperial ships should've always been bigger than the Pirates ship (for accuracy). Although I like white sails, I don't really like these ones. I feel like the striping looks like drawn on pencil lines. I feel like they should've been plain white or tan like the old Imperial Flagship. It is fairly expensive, but I feel for what you get, it is well worth the price.
  11. Thanks for all the input! I was looking forward to the idea of the statue, but it is too big for the scene. It would be more effective in grey and in a larger MOC where the scale would allow for larger decor like that. I think I might actually replace it with a large redcoat flag hanging on the wall like a tapestry. I should have my hands on a much better camera soon, so I can get some decent looking photos up!
  12. Thanks for the comments. I've never really participated in one of these things before and until recently, I hadn't touched a lego brick since '96. Anyways, here was a solution to some of the comments made, tell me what y'all think. (also, I apologize about the poor photo quality. There is really nothing I can do about it. I have an awful digital camera from the turn of the century and the camera on my phone. Neither does close ups very well.)
  13. 98a After many years of endless bloodshed and fighting, Redbeard and the Governor finally decided to lay down their arms and come to a peace settlement. Here we can see the Governor and the Captain discussing terms while a soon to be out-of-work soldier patrols the roof above.
  14. This is relevant to my interests. I think I shall take a shot at this.
  15. 92a This is another small MOC I put together just now, it is a small Imperial Outpost that had been abandoned, but is now covertly used by pirates from which to launch raids.
  16. Except that Mega Bloks already has a PotC licensed theme...
  17. 87a This was a small project that I worked on last night. It is a small whaling vessel with minimum armament. (I apologize for the poor focus quality, I'm using a really old digital camera ) Pirates attacking! Docked in port
  18. I have very few brown pieces at all, but since I have the bow and stern pieces from SES, they have red top parts, so I just went all red in the model I'm building. Here's some WIP pics:
  19. Yeah, the figurehead was sort of an afterthought. I kind of feel that for this type of ship, it might be better off without a figurehead at all. Honestly, what did you expect from a bluecoat ship?
  20. I actually have a large bluecoat flag that I was going to place on the rear flagpole, but I can't find it anywhere. I have a bunch of bluecoats coming to me, but I haven't received them from my friend yet, hence the lack of crew... Its actually kinda disappointing, the only imperial soldier set I got when I was a kid was Sabre Island and I have all the pieces for it and none of the minifigs. I also may just re-flag it as a pirate ship. As a History buff and major, I have learned that Sloops and Schooners were more popular choices of sailing vessels in the Caribbean because they could operated in very shallow water. My intention was to create something fairly realistic.
  21. Yes, my bricks are dusty. The model was actually sitting on display for a while, didn't really occur to me. Got the images resized, sorry, you'd think little point and shoot cameras wouldn't produce such ridiculously hi-res images. I plan to make the foresails white as well, but for now I'm rockin' the SES sails.
  22. 86a So this is pretty much my first real attempt at creating my own ship from scratch, nothing too fancy. Any suggestions would be great
