  1. I guess some people do. Here are the LEGO-suggested box ideas from 6780 Light & Sound XT Starship: See all 5 of them were built: The box ideas from 6783 Sonar Transmitting Cruiser were also built: The ones for 6981 Gamma-V Laser Craft, too: I've been trying to build some of the box ideas of Classic Space sets. It's not easy for me, in fact it's downright difficult. I started with something simple, the ones from 6927 All Terrain Vehicle...... ...Yet I failed, badly. You know, it's really NOT easy without instructions. All one has are a few clues/cues to gleen from one picture for each idea/creation. Obviously much of the specific build is hidden, therefore it takes a great deal of guess-work. Perhaps it's easier for others, and I just suck Anyway, lets discuss this subject, and/or just post your favorite Classic Space LEGO box-ideas, a subject I've been dying to post about. Here's a beauty from Galaxy Explorer that I'd love to build: Also, I've always liked this one from 6951 Robot Command Center, IMO it's cooler than the main set itself:
  2. This will be my very first LEGO Monorail setup. The package I got included *6990 Monorail Transport System, complete *6347 Airport Shuttle/Monorail Accessory Track, complete (note: NOT the 6399 Airport Shuttle set, only its companion expansion pack) extras *monoswitch 2774 *2x straight short 2670 *4x straight long 2671 *4x curve long 2672 This will allow me to build any LEGO configuration that shows 6990+6347, plus a few extensions to that. I may probably not be able to build any LEGO track configuration showing 6990+6921 because I don't have the 6921 Accessory Track. However perhaps the extras I have will allow me to do 6990+6921, provided I have every part that came with 6921, but I'll have to check Peeron for an inventory list. My next purchases will include 6399 Airport Shuttle, another 6990 and 6921, as and when I can afford more. For now, I'm just getting started with my 6990 with the ability to expand to some extent with 6347, plus extras. My dream is to expand enough to the point where I'm able to build the massive monorail setups that I've seen in various youtube videos.
  3. Yes, exactly. I was looking at the Peeron inventory entry for the 5 monorail-related sets to see how many of each track piece came with. In any case, he/she indeed must have many sets, regardless of which ones. I'm sure he/she had 6990 if not both 6990 & 6991.
  4. Yes the track packs are really expensive, going from what I've been seeing on Bricklink and Ebay. Yup the The 6990 and 6991 sets are still fairly reasonable, while the larger and less common 6399 is often around twice as much as a 6990 (more or less). PERFECT, thank you! Now I can see what ideas LEGO gave everyone for the 6990 set. I ordered a package on Bricklink, here was the description: It seemed like a reasonable deal, because in addition to the main 6990, it has the 6347 Airport Shuttle Accessory Track and some additional tracks. I almost got a 6921 track pack in a seperate buy, but too much time passed and I missed out on that one. Still, I think I'll be off to a reasonable start with building a monorail. My next target will be either a second 6990 set, and if I find a reasonable deal, the much-desired 6399 ^__^
  5. One of my favorite Classic Space sets was the 6882 Walking Astro Grappler, from 1985. I always thought it would be cool if it had two claws--So I modified it just a little, with 2 arm-claws, and a few extras. Changed the canopy from opaque blue (rear) trans-yellow (front) to all trans-blue. Also added some 1x1 trans-blue lights. I call this MOC the Walking Astro Dual-Grappler :) @ work performing rescue duty 'when s**t happens, Dual Grappler is on the scene!' Two separate & dangerous life-threatening situations can be tackled by Dual Grappler, simultaneously, saving time and precious lives! If one situation is too complex, both grapple claws can be used to overcome a single difficult challenge. lives saved!
  6. Yes, I agree. While the setup is awe-inspiringly large and complex IMO (for someone to have in their room, not talking about a BrickCon showing) the video itself is pretty awful, both in terms of quality/resolution and what was filmed. I would hope he takes more footage of his setup.
  7. Whoa! I absolutely love your monorail setup. I dream of having something as "modest" as that. Sweet. At least you have a good starting point, and can expand from there. I am only just about to get the 'core' of what may become a starting point I'm way behind! Say, I have a favor to ask if you have it, and if you could take a picture of it: I have never seen the back cover/sleeve of the 6990 Monorail Transport System box with all the ideas LEGO always put on their boxes. I've searched the net without any luck. There are plenty of pics of the front and some of the inside cover, just not the back. Anyway, 5/5 rating on your space monorail setup, I love it.
  8. Oh how I wish it was! I've just ordered my first monorail set, the 6990, which I hope will arrive next week. I have a LONG way to go before being able to put something like THAT guy's setup together ^__^
  9. Great review! All-Terrain Vehicle was one of my two favorite LEGO sets ever. I have to include a shot of the back of the box, because I love the ideas LEGO provided for this set: Very nice Blacktron-themed 6927! I love your modified 6927 with the enclosed front. 2 weeks ago I modified my All-Terrain Vehicle as well, in a similar way, but just *slightly* more modified from the original. I call it: 6927-C 'All-Terrain Vehicle Improved Class' a few clues for anyone to easily build this themselves: Also, a much more extensive modification/MOC that I call 6927-W "All-Terrain Warrior" These are my very first attempts at modification and doing a MOC of Classic Space LEGO!
  10. This individual post here is only going to be for videos of the standard official 6399 Airport Shuttle set in action. No MOC or expansions. I may add other vids of other monorail MOCs/setups/expansions in other posts *within* this thread later, but this one is just for the plain 6399! Vid 3 Vid 4 I shall edit more 6399 videos into this post, as & when I find them.
  11. I very much agree with CP5670 and 5150 Lego. I really love how the track climbs up those little 'hills', winds around up onto the desk and then how it's layed out over on the window sill. That other MASSIVE monorail is mindblowing and I'll have to look again carefully, but it was impressive. I've recently become very interested (for good reason, obviously) with the 3 main, official LEGO Monorail sets: *6990 Monorail Transport System (1987) *6399 Airport Shuttle (1990) *6991 Monorail Transport Base (1994) As well as both 'Monorail Track Accessory' expansion/extension packs: 6921 (1989) and 6347 (1991), Because a.) the official sets are extremely cool & desirable, b.) because of the incredible possibilities from combining them, especially multiple ones of each. Although I've been into Classic Space & Classic Town LEGO since 1979-1980, I almost totally ignored the Monorail sets, because by the time they arrived in the late 80s & early 90s, I had shifted hobbies from LEGO to VIDEOGAMES. Now as an adult, I'm shifting back, lol.
  12. Hi, I'm new here, this is my first post. While surfing Youtube for videos of LEGO Monorail sets, I came across one that I wanted to show you, one that impressed me so much. It's somebody's incredibly sweet, very large Monorail setup, mainly based on the 6399 Airport Shuttle: Obviously this guy had multiple 6399 Airport Shuttle sets, probably COMBINED with multiple 6347 / 6921 extension packs. There were 4 trains in the video even though I could only see one 6399 box (middle) one 6347 box (right) and one 6921 box (window sill). Pretty awesome huh? If it's taken down from Youtube for some reason, you should be able to download the video here, at least for awhile, and I can always upload it again (Open it with RealPlayer or Quicktime, not Windows Media). I thought it was cool enough to capture the vid and save it. p.s. I completely edited my post. I tend to edit alot, until I'm 100% happy with a thread/post.
