The Unofficial LEGO Collectors Guide RAFFLE
shackleton replied to Fugazi's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I would chose the Minitalia set #1 because I only have 1 minitalia brick and would love to have the first set they came in. It would go well with my collection of historic LEGO sets. They include the wood ferry boat from 1947, a complete town plan set, and many sets from each decade to present(if you don't know where something has come from, how can you appreciate what they are doing now?), but my favorite being a piece of the Loveland,Co LEGO plant facade(one of the large stud sections that lit up at night). Of course I would love to have an original wooden duck toy too! -
Brickworld Chicago 2012 Registration is Open
shackleton replied to BrickworldBryan's topic in Brickworld
I have a basic City/Train layout called "Shackleton" come find me at Brickworld and I would be more than happy to add your train cars to my layout. One thing though, I am only running RC/Hybrid trains, no 9V. My name is Jeff, Look forward to meeting you. -
All I did is add the PF to one of the cargo cars, that way it is pushing the BNSF and pulling the rest of the train. The battery box is easily concealed and most do not realize the difference. If they do it is fun showing them how you did it.

Thank you Davey and Bryan for showing how each year has gotten better. I for one had a great time! I think the direction that Brickworld is heading by being fresh and new each year is refreshing. If we displayed the same thing year after year, people would miss the point of Brickworld and LEGO in general. Each year I have tried to bring something different to show what an individual builder can accomplish. Some of the local LUG's have asked me to join, but for now I like to show what I can do on my own. My train layout this year was well received by all and has inspired me to create a more elaborate layout for next year. I hope that others will continue to be inspired and not bored each year. A special note for Adam: I did miss your buildings this year, it was the first thing I saw when I attended the first Brickworld. I appreciate your sacrifice to bring more space to others this year and thank you.

Yes he was there, I will be setting up the pictures I took on Flickr real soon when I do I will post the link. His Technic cars were incredible and He and his wife were very fun to talk too. This was my 4th year as a registrant/displayer. As each year progresses the possibilities that we create with a simple brick amaze me. Each year I walk into the hotel wondering what new aweinspiring ideas will be on display, and I have yet to be disappointed. This year was the first time I have displayed a train layout and it was so great to be able to walk away and enjoy visiting with people I seldom talk to as well as meeting new friends. I look forward to the coming years, to see what Brickworld has to show the world. Bryan, Adam and staff, Great job once again on giving us a place to show the world what passion we share within the medium that is LEGO!

I successfully did make it work, I will be uploading pics on my mocpages site this week. I have gone with strictly rc track for my layout to utilize the cross over tracks. I also modified the rc train bases into "passenger cars" and placed them in the middle of the train. If you are going to Brickworld you will be able to see them in action.

Bringing my first attempt at a train layout. Hope all goes well. The display is almost done, just putting the final touches on it. Now I just need to decide which trains to bring. Wish me luck, see you guys soon!

Great review and a great set. I had to buy this one when I saw it. I do agree with eveyone though, new constrution torsos are needed. We do not all dress the same!! Are you listening TLC??? And glad to see doors coming back into more sets. I would like to think our MOC's don't all drive in Hazard county where doors don't open.

Really love your colored mini dr.spock, and this dealership is great sens1992. I created some different mod's of the mini and posted them on my MOCpages. Let me know what you think and by all means use my ideas for your MOC, it would be fun to see a whole fleet of mini's like the Scion commercials.
-
I tried to upload some pictures of this car in different colors, but had some trouble. If you checkout my MOCPages I have done several different body and color MOD's, let me know what you think. www.mocpages.com/home.php/15409

Not sure if this is what you had in mind, but let me know what you think.

I love the MOD, great job making this a more interesting set! I did not like the way the back was open and am not sure if anyone has thought of this , but I added a few pieces on the back instead of the piece originally called for. In one picture you have the car pieces spread out it includes the original piece as well as the added ones. The other shows what it looks like after the MOD. Hope you enjoy it.

My name is what I call my LEGO city, but the "shackle" portion comes from a job I was working on. I work with heavy construction equipment and one day I was struck in the head with an 8-1/2 ton "shackle" that spun loose from a crane. It struck me in my right eye at about 15 miles per hour. The shackle itself weighs about 4 pounds and is commonly used in the construction industry. By Divine intervention, I survived the incident with no stitches, no concusion, no break or fracture, and no loss of vision. I even drove home from the job site later the same day. I returned to work the next day and one of my co-workers gave me the shackle that hit me as a "good luck" charm. And from then on my nickname has been "Shackle" that was over 5 years ago.

What LEGO do you expect under the tree this year?
shackleton replied to Legoliner Pilot's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I was not expecting much other than my usual LEGO gift cards, but my parents surprised me with the new LEGO stop motion video camera by Digital Blue. I was not even aware there was one, so it was truly a surprise. I already have the radio, alarm clock and digital camera(w/ case), so it was a great follow up. Now I only have to figure out what to film first. Any Ideas????? -
What do people say about you being a AFOL
shackleton replied to Paul B Technic's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am 36 and I am an AFOL(sounds like we are in a support group). I am proud of my LEGO obsession. We all should be. We get to build and create with one of the most versatile "toys" ever. Our community is made of all ages and walks of life across the globe. I don't ever hesitate to tell people about my LEGO collection. In fact, I just got a vanity plate for my car that says"LEG GODT". I figure it is just one more way to introduce people to the hobby I love. My family thinks I am strange and most everyone one else just thinks I have not grown up yet. I usually get weird looks when a cashier asks if I would like a gift receipt, and I tell them "no". When I explain that they are for me, they ask if I have kids and again I answer "no". They usually say "wow" or just finsh up because they don't know how to react. Most of all, my wife is happy to see me enjoy my hobby building all sorts of things and keeping young at heart. The cake topper at our wedding didn't hurt either! -
Not really sure what the total value is, but I have spent over $10,000 usd with the loyalty cards alone. I have trouble putting value on some of my collection, because they do not fall into "sets". The oldest item I have is the wooden ferry boat(circa 1947). I do have some odd pieces like I bought a piece of a LEGO factory facade on e-bay a while back. It looks like the top of a stud and is about 2ft X 2ft. How do you put a value on that? I am looking to insure my collection so I have started an inventory, but I am not sure where to find a company to insure me. Any suggestions? If I had to put a number on it, I would have to say atleast $50,000 usd just because of the replacement of some of my rare "pieces".

That is a fantastic collection. it is nice to see there are other people out there that collect the weird or rare LEGO sets. I have been collecting older sets for about 5 years and it is great when you come across something you have not seen before. To answer the one question about the jumbo bricks, yes they do fit into other larger bricks. They were a precursor to the duplo sets, TLG did not stick with it because it was incompatible with the other LEGO products. They were produced in the 60's. I won a set on e-bay with them, it included the original box and 60 red, white and blue bricks. The box was very plain on the outside, so I thought it was a promotional set. Thankfully at Brickworld this past June I got a chance to ask Kjeld Kristiansen personally about the set, he told me it was a retail set from either 1966 or 1967. I was so star struck I forgot to ask him for an autograph. Hind site is 20/20 and I was truly bummed, but atleast I got to talk to him one on one and that was by far the coolest thing ever. He is such a humble person and easy to talk to.

I really glad your move went so well. I recently moved and had to dismantle most of my city and transport everything to our new house. There is no greater experience than seeing an entire room you can fill with LEGO. My move had a few casualties but thanks to lots of pictures before the move I reassembled them fairly easily, I hope the same goes for your move. The cement walls definately need a coat of paint or something. We are all LEGO artisans and need a space that inspires us. Congrats on your move and I look forward to some detailed pics.

hello my name is commandertyphoon
shackleton replied to commandertyphoon's topic in Hello! My name is...
Hello, I am Shackleton and am very happy to have come across EB. Thanks to all of you at Brickworld that told me about this site. I mostly collect vintage LEGO and I build mostly city elements, even though I have been known to make Trebuchets to throw things great distances for fun . I look forward to more exploring on this site, thank you. -
I took the test giving myself an 8 to start and am proud that I ranked 7.96/10. So as far as statistics go, I am a purist? For the most part I stick with anything made by LEGO, including Scala, Belville, Modulex and the like. However, officially I am not a fan at all of Galidor(my apologies for those who like that product line). I have found studless vs. studded a horrible battle for solo builders. It seems to make it harder for some of us. I am fond of the products of Brickarms and Brickforge, but agree their use in MOC's is limited. I also have used engraved bricks for my designs, but only done professionally not by myself. I DO NOT use any clone brand anywhere in my builds. I give them to a preschool class to destroy as only little kids can . I think as far as MOC's are concerned if they are not all LEGO brand pieces they do not qualify for a LEGO MOC and should not be allowed on such sites as MOC pages. I dislike it when a claim is made to the sole use of LEGO parts yet you can clearly see the mega bloks from the pic. Enough of my rant, hope this explains my position on the purity of my LEGO builds.
