I would fully support a buisness like that, and I'm sure that many others here would as well. A buisness like that could be a lifesaver for MOCers who want to acquire rare parts that are extremely expensive.

Thanks for another wonderful, thought out review, corps. Honestly though, I think that this kit is far better than just a 7/10. Sure, none of the models are spectacular, but at the same time they are all VERY well designed and have great, manageable scale. Unlike you, I'm actually very glad that they cut down the size of the mobile crane so much. Sure, I really liked the design of the original one, but the scale of the new one is far more manageable and easy to fit into a town, while still being nice to look at and play at. Also, the simple fact that they put a building in the kit to construct gives this set a huge thumbs up from me. Aside from Main Street, basically every construction line from the 80's to the 90's to the most recent decade has suffered from a lack of things to construct. This new kit is a breath of fresh air, and I'm very pleased by it. Anyway, I dunno if I'll ever get this kit, as it's just one of many pricy sets I'm interested in. Still, it's captured my attention enough that if I ever find it on sale, I may pick it up. Good job, TLC!

Well, I personally would argue against the perception that "conflict driven" always equals "boring and repetive," especially since so many of the great stories of recent and ancient times have some sort of conflict (although many have more psycological conflict than actual physical conflict). However, I can assure you of one thing: this isn't TLC's idea. Here's a quote from an interview done with Greg F, the writer of the Bionicle comics and book series. In this interview, he was specifically talking about focus groups, and when question about the perceptions that focus groups just ate up anything that TLC threw at them without complaint, he said this: There you have it. The kids want action and conflict. They weren't asked if they desired such - they specifically requested kits that were focused on those ideas. This to me is definite proof that the market has changed, and is not like it was at all in the 70's and 80's.

Oh, indeed. If there was one thing that Mars Mission always excelled in, it was giving MOCers a ton of windshields in the new darker trans-orange color. I think we got at least 10 different window molds in that color - and nearly every set had a different one. Exactly. I'm finding it suprising that some people still are thinking about Classic Space, when the line is named "Space Police." Yes, they're both classic themes, but they have very little in common - they weren't even released in the same decade! And honestly, I'm glad about that, because I feel that the original Space Police and Blacktron lines were superior to Classic Space. Better to have a revival of those subthemes than the very first theme, IMO.

Yo, Pencoin - you still haven't put my username up on the topic post. It's "dantheman67"

Then basically what you're saying is that you never wanted a Space Police revival in the first place. Because honestly, the old space police was never about exploration either - it was about conflict and good versus evil, just like the new theme is. The only difference in concept is that there now are many different villians rather than one main group. Needless to say, that kind of thinking won't bode well in the modern day and age. Some of you may not admit it or agree with it, but the core lego audience today (AKA: American kids) is one that thrives on conflict and action. Exploration is fine and all, but without some kind of distinct evil force, you won't get anywhere. Also, without lots of battles, explosions, and excitement, there's no way you'll be able to sell the line to a modern audience as well. Ever wonder why Star Trek's fanbase is made up of mostly adults, while Starwars has a fanbase consisting of all kinds of age groups? Because Star Trek's complex, philosophical dialogue and deep characters can not even begin to compare to the excitement of lightsaber duels and massive space combat scenes in the eyes of the average modern kid. You guys need to understand that the kind of company direction that Lego had in the 80's just won't work in a modern day environment. In the USA, kids always go for the toys with the biggest guns and best action features, which is why classic building brands like Tinker Toys, Knex, Erector Sets, and others don't have much of a hold in the market anymore. While they are still desperately trying to hold onto their few market shares, TLC has beaten them all many times over. The reason? Because they've adapted to the changed market, something that every company needs to do if they want to stay in buisness.

I'm always happy to see more people combining System and Technic/Bionicle, so it's a great pleasure to view this MOC. Despite the inherient blockiness, you've managed to work in a nice shape and design. I especially love the torso and head, and other than the feet I can't really see any major areas that need improvement. Good job, and I hope to see more from you.

Um, I think you misread my post, Hinck. I never claimed that those pieces were in 6405 - I was just using that kit as a comparison to the newer horse trailer, as they both are of the same subject. It is true that the curved windows have been around since the 90's - the Breezeway Cafe has them, for example. But I agree - let's get back on topic. Anyway, is anyone else wondering a lot about that Wind Turbine transport kit? I honestly have no idea what they are aiming for in it - why couldn't they have just repackaged the Vestas kit and sell that, instead of trying to make a transport to carry a meter long construction? It sounds pretty weird, IMO.

Well, there's the first problem I see. Agents, despite having a very negative initial impression, has turned out to be one of the most popular themes of 2008, and many a Eurobricks member switched their mind on it completely after better pictures came out. Now, I know this is your opinion, but I'm hard pressed to understand why you hate a line that is obviously very creative and well designed. Is it the fact that the vehicles are really big? Or that the minifigures are wacky and cheesy? I'm afraid I don't get this at all. I honestly think the best way to approach this line is to look at it like a kid would. Imagine this poster through a 10 year old's eyes - what would pop out at him? The interesting ship designs? The colors? No, the kid would be far more attracted to the prospect of space cops chasing down evil aliens who are stealing valuable items. And that's fine, because it incorporates the inner kid spirit. The point is that in order to enjoy lines like Agents, Power Miners, and now this new Space Police line, we have to stop thinking like teens and adults, and start thinking a bit more like kids. No, this doesn't mean we have to ignore obvious flaws or poorly designed kits - even kids notice those things. But we do need to relax a bit and stop viewing the line through an overly critical lens. Instead of analyzing every little thing, we should just embrace our inner kid and imagine the lines like 10 year olds would. After all, TLC never claimed that lego was a toy primarily for teens and adults, and we shouldn't act like it is either. Just enjoy the line for what it is, and I think we'll all be better off.

Sweet bricks, that is win! From the looks of it, this line seems to be blending classic space elements with a more retro 60's sci fi atmosphere, complete with cool villians and a space convertable! I'm especially glad that they've kept the original name instead of going with Galaxy Patrol - very nice move.

In the eyes of recent fans, of course, since they wouldn't even remember Redbeard. In the eyes of older fans, it will never ever happen. I think that's a poor analogy, personally. In the new Indiana Jones movie, Mutt just played the role of Indy's inexperienced sidekick. On the contrary, Brickbeard has taken the helm as the captain of Lego Pirates as soon as he appeared, and he's being portrayed as every bit as mighty as Redbeard.

The white parts are megablokish? Um, those are curved windows in white, which have been around since the early 90's. They're also highly useful parts, so I feel that your complaint about them is unfounded. You're probably the first person I've met online who actually doesn't like those parts. Also, the trailer seems perfectly sized to me. It's big enough to hold the horse, but it's smaller than the truck itself, which makes it look fine, IMO. Personally, my opinion is that this kit is far superior to the previous horse trailer we've gotten, which was way back in 1992:

Something really strange is going on with my local Walmart. It's been over two weeks since Christmas, and yet when I went there today the lego aisle of the toy section was a complete messs. One half of the shelf was partially filled with a mixture of 2008 and 2009 sets, with no real rhyme or reason. What was more disapointing was that the entire other half was filled with dozens of Megabloks jr. bags - in fact there was probably more of those than lego sets! There were other problems as well. For some reason, Walmart has already discounted the Castle Dwarves Mine and Troll Warship, putting them in a clearance section (although the discounts weren't that great). And then there's fact that most of the other toy aisles were filled to the brim with toys. It honestly seems like my local Walmart is completely neglecting their lego section in favor of cheaper products, which really gets on my nerves. So, anyone else have any troubles with local stores?

Possible trouble for used LEGO sales in the US
Zarkan replied to Deinonychus's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So, let me get this straight: because of major recalls of BRAND NEW toys maunfactured in China that contained led, the US goverment is now initiating a law that bans the sale of USED toys? .... that is one of the biggest loads of crap I've ever heard. But hey, nobody ever said that Congress actually does anything good or useful, did they? -
Well, I can't quite remember very well, but my first set was probably 6331 Patriot Jet: I'm not 100 percent sure about this, but I'm certain at least that this was one of my very first lego kits. A very sweet eldery couple that my family knew when living in Pennsylvania gave this kit to me, and I think it really started my interest in the hobby.

Thanks for the pictures, hippotam! That tractor looks like a real beauty - and it's a breath of fresh air considering that it's the first real farm tractor in ages, if not ever (I can't recall if this is the first one with a design like this - anyone care to enlighten me?). I'll be sure to get this for my Farm display. Honestly, I just don't get what it is with you and the Horse Trailer set, Klaus. Is it really so horrible just because it's 6 wide? Personally, I feel that it's one of the most well designed of the Farm line, and I don't understand why you're so turned off by it.

Hey guys, I've befriended just about everyone that posted their MLN username in this topic, but so far only three of you have responded. Anyone else going to reply?
-
Well, I tried to click on all of your guy's modules, but it seems that I've run out of clicks for the day (this was the first time I really invested any effort into my lego network). Could you guys click on my thornax plants anyway? My username is dantheman67. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I recently started doing stuff in the MLN, so this will no doubt come in handy. BTW, it's interesting to see that even though the Bionicle MLN is obviously non-canon, it seems to be providing some good info on the character's personalities. It's not a huge amount, but it's still nice to see that they're handling this like it's part of the official storyline.

A lot of things. I have a disorder, so I'm often a lot sensitive to stuff than most people, including feelings, smells, tastes, and other things. However, my biggest pet peeve has nothing to do with any of those. More than anything else, I find it annoying when people flame each other just because they have a difference of opinion. I've left at least one forum permanently because the experienced members there had a habit of demeaning newer members who disagreed - including the moderators. Amen to that.

Since no one has mentioned it yet here, there's a review of Tuma up on BZPower. And it once again proves that BZP is the single best place for bionicle set reviews.

Thanks for the wonderful review of what is IMO the greatest Adventurers subtheme of the entire line. Honestly, I'm really glad that I managed to get 9 kits from this theme, including the Scorpion Palace and the Temple of Mount Everest. They're really great kits in almost every way. Unfortunately, I really don't have room to display them, so I've taken them all apart and sorted the pieces into my collection. I've also used some pieces for my Town and Farm displays, since the pieces are so good. Who knows - maybe once the Indiana Jones theme is exhausted (which will probably happen in another year or two), we will see a revival of Johnny Thunder and company. It would sure be a logical way to keep the foreign locations and vehicles going without having to rely on the confines of a license.

Honestly, I must be one of the few who has not noticed any change in quality from earlier years. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, or maybe it's because of my vision problems, but the quality seems fine to me.

Well, yesterday I was in Walmart, looking for a Bionicle Gali Mistika to finish off my Toa Nuva collection. Instead, I ended up going home with a 2007 King's Castle Siege - all for the small price of $30 dollars. Honestly, I've read so many stories here about awesome lego steals, but this is the first time I've ever gotten a REALLY good deal. Only problem is that I'm broke now, but since my birthday's coming up in a week I'll be fine moneywise.

I fail to see why that is a problem. Creator has given us some excellent sets that can easily be incorporated into town layouts - most notably the houses and ferry. Honestly, I think the new promo set is just fine. Sure, it's nothing special, but at the same time it has a nice charming feel to it. Plus, although the ice cream stand is out of place, it's a nice little design.
