Oh no, I can already see where this is going.... half of the members are now going to post the generic "anything from Bionicle," comment and all the Bionicle fans will be forced to come and defend the line. Just like now. Honestly, does this really have to turn into a Bionicle bashing topic, guys? You can't simply go out and say things like that, because it's been proven again and again that Bionicle parts are not useless. In fact, some extremely useful parts like the playset Piraka spines, Toa Hordika neck joint, and Barraki eyes, all of which have tons of potential outside Bionicle MOCs. I'm tired of people billing the line as useless crap just because they don't like it. It's like saying that a book or movie is a pointless waste of time just because it's made in a style that they aren't fond of. Come on guys. For once, can't we have a "worst piece/set/theme/etc" topic without it degrading into generic, unreasonable responses? ~~~ Anyway, the worst part ever IMO is probably the large legs part used in lego animals like the elephant and dinousars. It basically has zero uses other than as animal limbs, mostly due to the odd connection type that is used in the interior.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
Zarkan replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Heh, I'm not so sure if I agree with you. Honestly, I think they're both at about the same level - great concepts that were totally ruined by skeletal design and the "necessity" of a megasuperawesomewow function. -
I vote for entry number two. All of them are fantastic, but the second entry was the only one that REALLY popped out at me. The detail and design put into it is incredible, and I love all the real life touches in the interior and on the exterior.

It is confirmed. This movie is going to rule.

Considering that they priced Kiina a full two dollars higher than any of the other canister sets, and considering that Greg said there would not be another price raise on bionicle sets this year, I highly doubt that these will be TLC's official prices. Edit: Oh, and they also priced the Mistika 25 bucks a piece, Mazeka 55, Yellow Jetrax 120, and the Brickmaster rahi 30.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
Zarkan replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Honestly, I have to disagree with almost all the comments posted here about the summer Power Miners sets. Unlike you guys, I despise all of these kits. Here's why: Titanium Command Rig - A huge mobile base for the Power Miners had tons of potential, but it seems that lego totally ruined the idea by trying to base the entire set upon a transforming tower feature. The result is that the whole kit is blocky, skeletony, and uninspired. Even parts like the cockpit are very simple and boring, and ironically, there's less space on this kit for the minifigures to move around than on the Crystal Sweeper! Rock Wrecker - This set seriously feels like the epitome of gimmicky design. All you've really got here is a big lime box with strange back wheels, four diagonal saws tacked onto the sides, and a net launcher and jet engine piece in the back. Basically, a totally useless and silly kit. Crystal King - .... I don't really have anything to say about this one, except that whatever the set designers were thinking when making this, they really had rocks in their head. This brick built monster couldn't be scary and cool if it wanted to, but as it stands it basically a mine mech for the monsters - aka an extremely poor exo-force MOC that doesn't fit in the line at all. Honestly, I couldn't be more disapointed about these summer kits. It seems that all the creative design and good concepts went into the winter kits, and it looks like the designers were out of ideas by the time they had to design the second wave. The only thing that I like about these kits is the new giant rock moster, but that isn't enough to warrant a purchase from me. I can only hope that the two remaining kits to be revealed will be better than this tripe. -
How is that news article hard to understand? The pictures in it are NOT leaked, which means they are allowed on BZP. However, the pictures from the dealers catalog are leaked, so they aren't alowed. They're two completely different sources.
-
Whoops! Looks like I skimmed over that post a little too quickly. Seriously, I though I was over doing that. Actually, as far as I can tell, the only Bionicle pieces in these kits are some of the small fins used in the Bionicle vehicles back in 2008. And since those pieces seem to look fine on these kits, I don't mind at all. In fact, I think this is probably the best use of Bionicle pieces in system kits in ages.
-
I know you're not posting just for me - I never said that. I'm just suprised that you can't find anything good to say at all. Isn't there something in these kits that you find worthy of praise? And if you don't, can't you at least explain why you think TLC is heading in a wrong direction? Look, I'm perfectly open to opposite viewpoints - what I don't like is when people complain about things without actually giving any reasons why they don't like something. This applies to positive comments too - somebody posting "Awesome! These kits rock!" may be expressing a very valid opinion, but he's also leaving everyone else in the dark as to why he feels this way. If you want to express disatisfaction with the new Space Police line, go ahead, but I'd like to know exactly why you feel this way. Well, if the jellies were actually poseable and personable like these new figures are, I might agree with you, but the jellies are neither. IMO, they are the single worst alien figures TLC has ever made, and even the release of the nice alien commanders in 2008 can't make up for the former's horrid design and lack of expression.

Okay, I literally cried out for joy when I saw that Toy Fair pictures were up, and it looks like my anticipation has been completely and utterly rewarded. Seriously, this new Space Police line is looking absolutely beautiful - far more than Mars Mission ever was (and I'm a fan of the theme!). The ships are wonderful, and I'm shocked at how beautiful the Galatcic Enforcer is. Also, it seems that the aliens are more organized than we originally thought - in fact, they seem to be taking the place of Blacktron as a ring of evil mercenaries and space pirates. This is backed up by the uniform look of the evil space ships and the presence of more than one of the figure orignally seen on the legoland banner. Overall, I'm EXTREMELY pleased with this line. I've been confident in TLC that they'd pull off a Space revival, and it looks as if I was right. Thank you lego for doing this. Eh? I think you need to take another look at those pictures, phoinix. There are very few pieces used in any of the kits that could potentially count as "<insert that tiresome argument> pieces." In fact, this line looks to utilize about the same amount of large pieces as previous space lines. Sure, there's some big molds, but they've been present in space themes for ages - and none of them look hard to use in MOC's at all. Honestly, I'm getting tired of your constant complaining, phoinix. It seems that every post you make now is a short rant on how "TLC isn't going in the right direction," and it's getting really tiring. By the looks of all the comments so far, you're in the small minority when it comes to not liking these sets - basically everyone that has posted has had positive things to say. How about you?

I honestly thought that Insectoids was far more interesting as a theme than UFO ever was. That was mainly because while many of the UFO sets looked very similar to each other, the Insectoid kits had very unique and different designs. I'd rather have a bunch of bug inspired vehicles and ships than a lot of saucer shaped spaceships that all use the same huge curved saucer plates as their main bulk. I agree that the figures of UFO were awesome, however. But I think I like the Insectoid figures just as much.
-
Methinks Greg may have given away a very important piece of information regarding Bara Magnians.
-
Remember, the sets are preliminary, so I'm thinking that might change in the final version. And if not, it's not really that big a deal, since any serious Space fan is bound to already have a ton of spare visors.
-
Interestingly enough, I actually once got TWO of the same mask in a small 6 dollar Bionicle kit, which came as quite a shock to me. I think that the general rule is that small extra pieces are a norm in sets, but if you ever get extras of larger molds, you're pretty lucky.
-
Actually, from what I can tell these "original designs" are actually from the Lego Indiana Jones video game. He has another folder that has "original designs" for lego Batman, but I can tell that they're from the videogame based on that theme.
-
Yes, I know what you mean - after all, we've been discussing the old Bionicle versus the new Bionicle over here for ages. Also, I do completely agree about the alternate universe stuff - that IMO did get a little out of hand, especially since it cut off any possible epic final confrontation between Mazeka and Vultraz.
-
Ah, okay, just wasn't sure about what you meant. Honestly, while I realize that the serials were getting pretty weird by the end, I didn't mind at all. Maybe it's because 2008 was such an epic year that I expected things to get crazy and messed up (in a good way, I mean). With a whole universe falling apart, I'd think that out of the ordinary things would be a lot more possible. I dunno, maybe I'm just a lot more acceptive of weird plot twists, but to me the story managed to stay very coherent, despite all the weirdness.
-
Personally, I feel that TLC has a fairly good idea on how to balance stickers and printed pieces in sets. The printed pieces we usually see are small and can be used in multiple themes, while all the stickers present in certain themes would make pieces less useable if they were printed on them. Imagine if all the pieces in exo-force were printed - that would heavily undermine the usefulness of all the curved slopes.
-
I hope you meant "fanfiction of low quality," not "fanfiction in general," otherwise you've insulted all the writers at BZP who actually try to put effort into their stories - including me. Either way, I don't agree with you on this - I personally thought that the serials last year were extremely enjoyable.

Today I picked up the following: 1x Bionicle Toa Gali 1x Pirates Kraken Attack 1x Pirates Loot Island 2x Pirates Cannon Battle Suprisingly, this is actually the very first time I've gotten more than one of the same set. I rarely have enough money to do anything like that, but the Cannon Battle kit is such a good deal that I knew I would be getting at least two of them.

Yes, in fact I just did. Fortunately, it seems that the toolbar is back, so I guess this topic can be closed. I am wondering if that had anything to do with the temporary disapearance, however.
-
Okay, needless to say, for some reason I can't access any the options above the actual area where you type in the post. No links, no formats, no emoticons, nothing. Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
-
Well, I'm late to the coming, but I though I might as well post my opinions on the new sets: Cendox V1: Another Vultraz-like set, it seems. Nothing much interesting here, except for the interesting mask that looks somewhat like a great Huna. Kaxium V3: Hm, a motorbike with a sidecar. Interesting, and I like the design. Thornatus V9: I see tan - LOTS of tan. The vehicle itself looks weird, but not horible. Skopio XV-1: Now THIS is cool. The only vehicle that looks anything like a rahi, thus I love it better than the others. Also, the rider looks very interesting - particulary the mask he's wearing. Also, needless to say, it looks like silver is back in full, guys. :(

A few months? Seriously, the death of TLC as a company won't stop lego fans of all ages from talking about it and sharing their creations online - lego is simply too popular a toy for that to happen. Eurobricks will live on with or without TLC, as will the general online community. But seriously, I don't think there's much to worry about anyway. TLC is going strong, their products are increasing in quality every year, and their profits are soaring. They didn't just get out of the dark ages with no work, you know.

Considering that that a situation like that caused a gigantic railroad accident recently, I totally agree with this.
