  1. looking good One suggestion, try staggering the gun ports for a slightly better look - a checquered side pattern (apologies if this has already been mentioned, i skimmed over the posts)
  2. I like it - it's a nice custom piece on an established model Well the royal navy shipyards built their ships to established patterns - maybe the BSB is a captured Navy ship
  3. Hmm - this would be a nice set to pick up for the flacon and the bluecoat No backpack for the bluecoat though :( Anyone have arough idea of rrp??
  4. dont laugh, i just searched through all the pirate sets on peeron to find it its in 6192
  5. she's definately a beaut - worth the wait to see it if there was one thing that I would consider changing, it would be the standing rigging due to the nature of its use, the standing rigging was usually tarred, and would therefore appear darker than the running rigging other than that minor thing i am in awe sir she is truely a masterpiece
  6. not looking bad at all mate - the cabin windows look very much like what i had in mind for mine as captain green hair has said - a little more length in the hull would bring the side profile more into proportion it looks like you have a 3 stud gap between gun ports - i went for 4 another thing is the location of the main hole to the deck below (apologies i dont know the right term for this) I have been using the victory as my reference - i dont know which ship you are using for yours (so you may be right with respect to your reference), but on the victory the main "hole" is between the fore and main mast not the main and mizzen kep it up fella - she looks great

so how many middle sesctions did you use?? i just got some more plates for the decks today - put them in and think i need to rethink the internal columns fun and games I need to see an update fella!!!!!!

Well only one deck will have the orignal lego cannons on - so that's about 30 cannons, the others will all be built up using ideas from some of the cannons made by other people on here Good spot - its funny how you (me) can look at something everyday and not spot something as simple as that

Have you worked out how long yours is gonna be?? one of the things i changed on mine was the length - i took out a middle section - there are only 11 middle sections now the reason for this is, if you look at the earlier pics of the rear cabins - there was a massive void between the slanted cabin bit and the gun ports on the upper decks - so i took it all apart, rebuilt it about 3 studs back (i think), removed a middle section and built it a little bit more forward as well Not at all - i copied a lot from your tumblehome - so i think if anyone should be bothered - it should be you Yep - already named, i couldnt find a way to change the thread title - i think i'll have to ask an admin to change it so it has the name of the ship in the title Any updates on yours?? I got parts coming daily at the moment - but i cant get the deck plates in the quantities i need from one supplier, so it will take a while to get any further I'm not sure how to mast her yet - so i will be asking for help on that soon - i'm not sure if i will get the right look with the standard masts - but i'm not sure i'd be able to do them justice scratch building them....... Speaking of masts - they were placed with repect to their locations when the sides were in their "old position" so they are now not in the right place for the "new positions" of the sides - i will rectify this once i get some more parts

Here is the update: These were taken on Wednesday And these were taken this morning - can you spot the differences?? they'er pretty subtle
  11. if he builds it like mine then it will be solid already - i pick mine up all the time and it's fine - even with the hull sections missing - so once all the decks and bracing are in it'll be like one piece of lego
  12. Looking at those hull sections i am quite suprised at how well this ship has turned out The original iron cross pre dates the Iron cross of WW2 by about 100 years

well this is what i kinda had planned I need some more bricks so i can play around with it for real as i designed this before the tumblehome was added, but you'll get the jist I've also been working on where the poop deck should sit and the height of the walls for that today - again onluy in rough till i can order some more bricks (photos to follow tomorrow)

    - indeed, built at different shipyards but by a collaboration of designers As you can see I am using some of your ideas - if you see anything of mine you can encorporate please feel free Matt
  15. Very nice Fort fella Only a couple of suggestions 1 - the size of the walls compared to the usable space inside the fort seem a little out of proportion - if you have the bricks maybe extend the straight sections of wall a little to make the inner square larger or 2 - after seeing how you made your angled walls, it is evident that there is a lot of empty space within the walls, perhaps you could build some buildings into the cavaties in the walls to make the fort look bigger an ingenius way of making angled walls - i like it All the best Matt
  16. I enjoy them - my dad had most of the set when i was a kid, so i read them then They're written under the pen name "Alexander Kent" by Douglas Reeman

To give you guys a better idea of the finished product i've whipped this up in lego creator: Please note that the grey slopes inside the ship will be yellow - and the white outer slopes will also be yellow (they're not available in taht colour on this program)
  18. very nice What bodies did you use to attach your custom decals to?? I'm looking for similar at the moment Are those your own torso designs?? As said above, the rigging that was static on a ship was tarred to help preserve it - and so would be black on a ship Other than that - a great ship all the best Matt

A few pics - as i said above she's just skeletal at the mo whilst i wait for some more bricks to come. I've also mocked up what the internal side supports willlook like so i can see where the decks should be, and work out what plates to order for the decking This Photo has the internal walls next to the side of the ship So i moved them out of the way for the next A peek down through the top at the mock up of the internal walls Looking fron the stern down the intenal length of the ship And an external look down the length (again from the stern) you may just be able tomake out the profile of the hull from this shot Hope you like it, the colours arent right yet - i use whatever i have to hand to mock up and then order the right bricks as and when - there will be a lot more yellow on the sides when i finish
  20. have you read any of the alexander kent "Richard Bolitho" novels?? Very nice custom figure -i've been watching the recent TV drama of hornblower and master and Commander for outfit ideas for the crew of my ship

not too bad - if you look at a cut through of HMS Victory, the lower deck is almost straight sided, then it curves in I've already started again I'll be ordering the new bricks for the sides soon, i've built up a skelton version (like i did before) to get an idea of the overhaul size and i think it will work well I'll get some photos tomorrow and post them up
  22. Your idea was along the lines of what i thought i needed - i planned to mess around with those sloped bricks to try to get the right shape, but as soon as i saw your diagrams i knew that you'd hit the nail on the head Hope you dont mind me using your idea - albeit slightly changed I'll lose some upper deck width - not a lot though But will gain some deck head height - which could come in handy Need to rework my support strut spacing now lol I look forward to seeing some updates mate matt
  23. Hello fella Hope it's going well I've just stripped mine back to the bottom gun deck, i'm now using a modified version of your hull profile for mine as well - to give the tumblehome that it should really have i got slopes in black to mock up with whilst i wait for the proper colours to turn up Have also been watching some hornblower to get an idea of attire for my crew Back to the TV ;) Matt

thanks for the replies - i already have a similar system for the internal bracing: i may turn the internal pillars the other way so that the slopes are facing in - i'll wait till i have deck plates before deciding the deck plates will be 6x6 on the lower deck as it wont be very functional - just enough head room for the cannons the other decks will use 12x6 and have the supports spaced for them accordingly the decks are 18 studs (3 plates) wide at the moment I like the look of your tumblehome, but i'm unsure if i could easily encorporate it into my design now - will haev to see once i've got some more cash :D
  25. nice idea - i plan to moc my guns up for 2 of the decks also, but will probably make them a little more realistic than that....maybe mine seems quite stable with the way it is what i did was where there is the black bricks i used 3 plates intstead of a brick and wove them into eachother and then placed the yellow bricks on the gaps for added strength yep i am - i'm originally from the Isle of Wight - near Portsmouth/Southamptn - so i have seen HMS Victory and HMS Warrior from a far, but never looked round them (yet) I now live in South Wales Where abouts do you hail from??
