Evening all!
After lurking around this site as a registered member for over 3 years, I thought it was high-time I put my first post online...
My name is Andy and I'm from Gloucestershire in the south-west of the UK. I was a massive Lego fan in my childhood in the early 1980's and this lasted through until my early teens with my last sets from that ear dating from 1992. My other hobby is cycling - both road and mountain bikes - and I can only assume in retrospect that is was this that pushed the Lego out of the way. Thankfully I had the foresight to box-up and store all the Lego, and there it remained until 2006 when my girlfriend at the time bought me a Harry Potter set - completely unaware that she was about to rekindle a long lost love for the plastic brick!
In the last five years the internet has led me (and many on here I'm sure!) to spend much of our hard-earned cash on nostalgic purchases we missed out on as children, not to mention acquisitions of new sets that has have seen the obsession return with a vengeance! I've also discovered the wealth of terminology and websites dedicated to the hobby and now consider myself an AFOL with the best of them! I'm an infrequent user of Bricklink to replace parts missing from second-hand purchases, and have logged my entire collection on Brickset - which as we speak is telling me I currently own 208 sets, primarily from the late 80's. My collection is probably 70% Town/City, 20% 'other' minifig scale (Classic Space/Castle, Harry Potter, etc.) and 10% Technic. In the last few years I've fallen for the Modulars and other 'town-ish' Exclusives, and they've been the majority of my purchases.
I've yet to have either the space or a permanent enough home to set my Lego up or to indulge in any MOC building, but the work on here really inspires me to do so as soon as possible. Again, when the space is available, I hope to start to roll out some Classic Town reviews to begin to populate the gaps in the Index - as I've said above, most of my Lego is from that period.
So I hope this is an interesting insight into yet another Lego fan. Again, it's great to connect with like-minded individuals!
