  1. You're right, it is a difference of opinion and I can completely understand why people would disagree with me, especially about the A-Wing from Home One. The thing is, I'm only interested in the A-wing, not a random (and expensive) playset like Home One. Lego should've split up the A-Wing and Home One playset and sold them separately, but this is wishful thinking. Good discussion all around though.
  2. I guess I just feel like there is nothing left to explore. We're getting ships and vehicles that were only seen in the movies for a fraction of a second (Clone Turbo Tank anyone? AT-TE walker?). I don't buy any of those, I want the main Star Wars iconic ships like x-wings, y-wings (a real y-wing, not a clone wars one), tie fighters, millenium falcon, stuff that Lego hasn't given us in a long time. I know I'm probably the voice of the minority and I can certainly understand that. But my opinion is no less valid than anyone elses. Not wanting a new Millenium Falcon because you happened to be in the right place at the right time over 5 years ago when they released the last one is not a good argument against releasing a new one. These are the last times we had iconic ships, keep in mind we're going into 2010 now. Tie Fighter - 2005 Millenium Falcon - 2004 X-Wing - 2004 and 2006 Y-Wing - 2007 (this is a little more forgiveable) Tie Bomber - 2003 B-Wing - 2000 and 2006 Snowspeeder - 2004 A-Wing - 2006 (Home one doesn't count, in my opinion) Imperial Shuttle - 2001, but you might include 2005's Imperial Inspection - I'm not counting the 2007 Imperial Landing Craft since it's a different ship entirely. Of course I'm only referring to SYSTEM sets. I don't think the Ultimate Collector Series, Midi-scale, or Mini-scale sets have the same wide appeal as a System set, so I don't consider those releases as filling the spot of a true SYSTEM scale set. I also don't consider a similar set, such as a Tie Defender, a replacement for the iconic Tie Fighter. It's nice to have the variety we do, but Lego didn't acquire the Star Wars license so that people could buy random little-known vehicles from the movies, but I could be wrong. We're going on lapses of 3 to 6 years without re-makes or re-releases of iconic ships, the vehicles that the entire Star Wars license was based upon when it was launched, and primarily the reason for its existence. You can make the argument that the Star Wars license now exists solely for the Clone Wars stuff, but that doesn't interest people like me. As long as they have the license, wouldn't it be better to release stuff we know and love alongside newer unknown sets? Only Lego knows.
  3. I really can't believe there are people arguing AGAINST having a new system-scale falcon! Prof said it best. Everytime Lego releases a new obscure clone wars set, some random droid ship or vehicle, it's money that is staying in my pocket. I'm not interested in random unknown vehicles, give us the Millennium Falcon! I don't buy used sets because of the outrageous prices, and yes - unfortunately I did miss out on all the iconic star wars vehicles. It seems to me that the Star Wars line has just gotten worse and worse as they run out of stuff to build, so why not give us more of what we love, iconic vehicles? Something else to think about, how many fire stations and fire / coast guard boats have we had? I think at least 5 or 6 in the past few years. Lego remakes the same sets all the time, in some cases the next year.
  4. I got this set for Christmas as a child one year, and it was the most amazing thing ever. It doesn't match up to the build quality of the newer sets, and it is lacking in pieces and variety to make it worth getting more than one for pieces, but back in the early 90's it was a joy to behold. I rate it outstanding, because it was one of my favorite sets growing up.
  5. marshal_banana - 2 Derfel Cadarn - 1 I Scream Clone - 1 Infomanic - 1 Briggs Broadside - 1 fonz - 1
  6. Too many good entries, not enough points to go around! Black Rabbit - 1 Paul Cantu - 1 Shmails - 1 Joe H - 1 Tom Bricks - 1 LegoWarlord8 - 1 Dr Steve - 1
  7. I don't like to rain on anyones parade, but I don't think prices for the Winter Toy Shop will go down... I can't think of too many instances where a Lego set that was discontinued or sold out actually depreciated in value.
  8. Here is mine, along with a little Christmas setting I made using the Beach House, Advent Calendar, and some small MOC's.
  9. Great entries by everyone! SirGoldenKnight - 1 Rampant Dingo - 2 Trubal - 1 Tombricks - 3
  10. Where are the winners announced? I didn't see them in this thread or in any other threads.
  11. I hope I made it in time! This is a great idea, thanks Cop Mike! Here is my Lego recreation of a Charlie Brown Christmas! Inspiration:
  12. I have updated and finalized my entry. Good luck to everyone!
  13. Hello there! I like the parade marching of all the men in the work force! :) I think this would make a much better medium entry instead of large. If you shorten the platform by 2 studs you will be within the medium range of 16x16. There are some humongous MOCs in the large division that will make it much harder to compete. Also, I think the roadway would look much nicer with some colored tiles to get rid of the studs and make it look more like a road. :) Good luck!
  14. This is certainly a treat for the eyes! I really like the wood work on the roof of the cabin, and the stone wall effect. Everything here is brilliantly put together!
  15. That house is amazing. The little round pieces as bricks? Brilliant.
  16. Nice job on the medium entry! The only thing I would add is some more detail to the dock / sidewalk in front of the bar. Maybe some bushes or plants under the windows, some brown / black tiling, maybe a street lamp or a couple candles / lamps at the ends of the piers, and some white tiles mixed in with the blue for the water to indicate waves crashing against the dock!
  17. Thanks for such a wonderful reception everyone! I will be working diligently on some improvements, as well as cleaning up the set (dusty hat!), and taking some new pictures with better lighting and no flash.
  18. 97d This is my Pillage The Village 2 entry for the small division. Update: November 25th After taking into consideration some of your suggestions, I have updated my entry. This is my final MOC and I hope you all like it! Each picture is captioned with a portion of the story. Warrant Service An Imperial Captain is wanted for cowardice and abandonment for having fled the village when the pirates last attacked. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and a young Imperial Officer hopes to earn a promotion by bringing the Captain to the magistrate. The Officer knocks on the door, with chains in hand, ready to serve the arrest warrant. Upon receiving no answer, the Officer breaks down the door and begins searching the house. Hearing the knock at his door, the Captain runs to hide in the basement where he encounters another problem. Can the Captain quietly kill the scorpion using his frying pan without the Soldier upstairs hearing him and finding his hiding spot? The Captain realizes his frying pan will make too much noise, alerting the guard upstairs. "There must be SOMETHING else I can use to kill this darn scorpion!"! "AHA!" The Captain, upon finding a more suitable weapon, triumphantly returns to face his nemesis. "It looks like no one is home" says the Soldier. He decides to relax in the Captains royal chair. For a short moment, he experiences a life of luxury. Thanks for looking!!
  19. You could make an imperial scouting expedition that comes across this island, and they have a makeshift funeral for their fallen friends of the past. Maybe that would help get you back into the bounds of the rules? Nice job though, I like it!
  20. 3 categories: Small (8x8 maximum), medium (16x16 maximum) and large (16x16 minimum) It does not have to be on a square template. A reasonable amount of overlap is allowed (staff's discretion), but no expansion of the base by stacking plates or bricks (like this) I know this is a dumb question, but can someone explain the categories? It doesn't make sense that the rule for small is 8x8, but then the next rule says it doesn't have to be square? Does 8x8 mean 8 studs by 8 studs? Does the 2nd rule mean that a small entry could be 8x6 studs, or 5x8 studs, or does it mean that the surface area can't exceed 64 studs (8x8)? For instance, would a 10x6 entry work, since it's 60 studs surface area? Maybe I'm overthinking this... Just to throw in my 2cents, I really like the non-violent theme idea. Lego Pirates never struck me as a "violent" theme before, and some of the entries for the original contest, though beautiful, were to me, not really what Lego is about.
  21. That thing is huge!!! Great job! How's the interior?
  22. 86b I was browsing the old Lego Pirates sets looking for some inspiration, but it turns out what I was really inspired by was the Lagoon Lockup remake that was posted here awhile back. I decided to remake an old Pirates set, and it came down to Shipwreck Island or Sabre Island. Both of these sets have a lot of charm in a tiny package. I eventually decided it would be Sabre Island, as I felt it provided more possibilities for letting my imagination run wild. The Original Sabre Island: What follows is a collaboration of nostalgia and modernity, brought together to coexist harmoniously as a testament to the timelessness of Lego Pirates. Today I bring you... Return to Sabre Island. I tried to keep the basic idea of the original Sabre Island, but I also wanted to explore other options that would liven up the island a little bit while keeping in line with the original vision. The 3 story building exists, interior complete with a 1st floor tavern / stock room, an upstairs bedroom with balcony, and a 3rd story watch tower. The original wall protecting the cannon was sacrificed in favor of a new dock for the Imperial sentry boat, most pieces courtesy of Loot Island. I really like the Brown and it's a shame I don't have more to use, but I think anymore brown in this set would've been overkill. Unfortunately, I just don't have the capability to take amazing photographs the way a MOC should be done. I hope this will be ok for the time being, and sadly some of the beauty of the set is lost to the terrible photographs. If I can do this set anymore justice, I will update it with better pictures after I read through the photographing tutorial again and see if I can scrounge up both money and space to set up proper lighting. Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed my re-imagining of Sabre Island. Thanks for everything that you guys do, this is a wonderful community and I can spend hours just browsing the index of MOC's on this forum.
  23. I like it! But it looks like your rigging is a little squished, maybe move the brackets that clip onto it down a brick or so?
  24. The slanted doors were fairly easy to make, using some standard 1x2 hinge bricks. I used 3 hinges on the bottom of the door facing toward the back of the ship. Then I attached the door framing and at the top I used 3 more hinges facing the opposite direction that attach to the bottom of the command deck. Hope these pictures help!
  25. 76c Hello Lego Pirate fans! Since this is my first post, I'd like to make a proper introduction by showing off my brand new Imperial Flagship redesign! This is my first Pirate ship MOC (most of my creations are Space based). What I wanted to do was maintain the elegance of the Imperial Flagship and build upon some of the unfinished design of the original ship. Specifically, I wanted to expand the hull size (done so by adding the black slopes on each side of the middle section) as well as a cabin section. I'm happy with the finished product, although it is nowhere near some of the beautiful ships I've found (and used for inspiration) on Classic-Pirates! Some of the features include a fully detailed interior, accessed by using the hinges that connect the cabin doors to the command deck (the deck pulls away revealing the cabin). In the front of the ship is a cargo hold / brig accessed by lifting a hinged plate. Of course, some concessions had to be made in order to maximize deck space. The most noticeable thing is the lack of armaments, by reducing the ship to 1 cannon. This reduces the ship to a scout / runner class, which I think is more appropriate based on the size of the Imperial Flagship hull. I kept the original masts / sails / rigging because I felt they needed no improvement! Thanks for looking and for letting me share my creation with you all!
