If you had to collect it all over again...
blueandwhite replied to David Thomsen's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Honestly, if such an 'opportunity' presented itself I would probably take the time to streamline my collection removing those sets I don't have a lot of use for and replacing them with something a bit more useful for my MOCing purposes. Still, my collection is also made from a large number of bricklink orders so replacing it would be difficult. -
This is a really nice MOC. What a great way to introduce yourself to Eurobricks! More than anything, I really like that you've gone back and revisited an older MOC. The previous version was nice, but this version is a clear improvement. The interior details are also quite impressive. In particular, I really like the kitchen and the pantry with the fish hanging on the line to dry. Even the landscaping has improved between this version and your first one. Great work and welcome to Eurobricks.

Indeed; "...but also comes in red and blue" was my first title. Go figure.

Muppet is a term coined by Jim Henson to describe his marionette puppets (marionette + puppet = muppet). The term generally applies to all of the marionette puppets that Henson and co. created. The term is more often associated with characters from the Muppet Show. Fraggles and Seasame Street characters are still muppets though. ...and Elmo was in Seasame Street. He's a Seasame Street character who happens to be a muppet, just like Big Bird, Oscar, Kermit and many others.

I've been updated from coming in red and blue. I'm a tri-coloured fellow now .

I can't see this being that impressive. With the Star Wars visual dictionary you have the added bonus of having a LEGO line that has been going on strong for 10+ years with a huge range of vehicles and figures that closely match their film counterparts. The Harry Potter line has been less consistent with a number of sets that simply fail to capture the spirit of either the book or films. If this book is filled with larger models rather than set photos I would consider giving it a look.

New Lego Exclusive 10217 Harry Potter Diagon Alley
blueandwhite replied to GRogall's topic in LEGO Licensed
This really is quite an impressive set. It's interesting that Diagon Alley was designed by the same designer behind the MMV. That alone says this set is worth a purchase. -
Well, bird is the word! Happy Birthday Erdy!

There's nothing better than a new minifig accessory. This figure is brilliant!

Lego used to illustrate the Swedish election 2010
blueandwhite replied to CopMike's topic in Community
This is certainly different. The author of this piece obviously has an amazing sense of humour. These LEGO posters really do a nice job capturing the spirit of the originals. One thing is for certain; AFOL turnout at this election will almost certainly reach an all-time high . -
Article: Trouble with LEGO Minifigs
blueandwhite replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've been very fortunate in that I've been able to complete both Series 1 and 2. This is even better when you consider that I don't have a particularly strong interest in any of the figures coming in Series 3. With the inevitable removal of the barcodes I feel that my minifig collecting days are done with series 2. I've always considered myself a builder as opposed to a collector. With the barcodes I could at least purchase what I want for my own purposes. For example, with Series 2 I've gathered 17 Spartans which I hope to use in the future for some Ancient Greece MOCs. Without the barcodes I would have probably dropped that plan completely. I openly admit I'm not a collector; I won't purchase something blindly. Minifigs just aren't that important to me. -
The hero/villian minifig discrepancy
blueandwhite replied to Zarkan's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Heroes always seem a bit more dull to me. This seems to be pretty much standard in any children's toyline. Heroes are quite literally avatars for the child to relate to as he or she plays with the toys. As such they are usually endowed with traits that the child wishes to see in him or herself. How many children want to be deformed, grotesque or freakish? As I see things, the bland heroes LEGO produces are simply placeholders for children to act out their own fantasies against an undefined evil. -
Collectible Minifigs: What's your favorite new part mold?
blueandwhite replied to Rick's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As much as I love the Spartan figure, my favourite part from Series 2 was the Pop Star's hair which I feel is the best female hairpiece LEGO has ever produced. In Series 1 the Caveman's beard is my favourite part. Both are very useful for MOCing. The Spartan's helmet is incredible but it really isn't a piece that I have a great deal of use for. The same could be said of some of the other accessories like the Cheerleader's pompoms. -
Wow, this is one of those rare moments when I find myself utterly shocked! A LEGO fan is actually passing on bricks when he has the green light from his girl?!! LEGO's marketing people really need to look into this one .

This theme looks like it could be the surprise hit for next year. The fact that the pyramid looks to be made of predominantly smaller bricks is fantastic. While this certainly is not be the continuation of Johnny Thunder that some might have hoped for, it does look to be a solid theme with a lot of MOCing potential. Even if most kids pass this up for NinjaGo, it certainly looks like a goldmine for AFOLs looking for building materials.

MOC: The Penguin's Winter Feast.
blueandwhite replied to The Penguin's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
This is really quite impressive. Winter scenes are hard to pull off yet you've done an amazing job here. The lightsaber icicles work particularly well. Figure placement is also handled quite nicely. I really like the way you used cheese slopes to convey snow piled up along the walkway. Strangely enough, while I'm not that fussy about red roofing in most MOCs, in a winter scene like this it stands out perfectly. Great work. -
It still works out to be less than 10 cents per brick which is unheard of these days. I picked up a third copy of this set when I was down in Chicago this weekend and if I had more spending money I would have bought another. At $99.99 this is one of the best deals LEGO has on the market. At $149.99 it's still an amazing bargain.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 3 discussion
blueandwhite replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I can't say that I'm overly excited for series 3 but there are certainly some nice figures in this assortment. The tenis player, snowboarder and baseball player are all fantastic. The fisherman has some nice accessories and the flying ace, Samuari and Native American Chief are all nice updates to now-defunct themes. I'm not too fusy for the elf, but I can see how he could be appealing to fans of fantasy themes. Unfortunately, I find that some of the figures really feel like afterthoughts. The Sumo wrestler seems to be the worst offender this time around with a torso that seems to lack any printing at this point and a trophy which just seems out of place. The racecar driver also seems a bit bland given that we've already had several Ferrari drivers not all that long ago. The cyborg seems very uninspired with recycled parts and a seemingly random peg leg that doesn't seem all that robotic. I'll still be looking for a few figures when Series 3 hits store shelves however I'm finding that LEGO is running out of great ideas a tad too quickly. -
I can certainly see LEGO's concern over consumers mistaking other brands for LEGO bricks. There's no doubt in my mind that most of the competitors rely on consumer error for a percentage of their sales. I wouldn't be surprised to see red 2x4 bricks on those packages in the next few years. At the same time I can also appreciate why the court reached this decision seeing that an isometric drawing of a 2x4 building brick (the patent has long since expired) is hardly distinct. I mean, isn't this pretty much the same decision that the Canadian Supreme Court came to in Kirkbi AG v. Ritvik Holdings Inc. 5 years ago? People were making a big deal about the decision then and nothing earth-shattering happened. I can see why LEGO is upset, but I don't really think this judgement is going to impact us at all. Average consumers have been confusing the clone brands with LEGO for years. This decision isn't going to change that. Quality will always win out. As long as LEGO doesn't go too far cutting corners (my real concern), then there's nothing to worry about.
