  1. I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. I've recently sold some things on ebay, and have about $150 set aside for my next set of lego purchases. Lego space (classic, specifically) is where I first got into lego long ago and always have wanted the 918, 924, and 928 sets. Should I buy the 2 smaller sets (which I can pick up via bricklink for about $110 or so), or buy the bigger one (which runs about $135). Ultimately I want all 3, but for the time being this is the question I find myself presented with. One other thing: why does the 928 set sell for so much less than the US version (497)? Same for the 924 (497)? I know the 4-- were the ones released here in the states, but myself, personally, I'd rather have the set that matches the piece numbers on the bricks themselves. I'd love any and all feedback, and which of the 2 purchases you'd make.
  2. I agree wholeheartedly...its as if people have their choice and everything else is crap. Unbelievable. It's interesting, though, that the header for this forum is "To boldly go where no minifig has gone before... " a direct star trek reference. So to those attempting to slam trek, you may want to reconsider your wording.
  3. I couldn't agree more with both of these statements...it seems that so many fans of, well, anything take any opportunity to knock an opposing view in an effort to make theirs BEST, when all it comes down to is personal preference. I enjoyed both star wars and star trek, too, and can't understand the people who are so steadfast they can't enjoy both and/or knock those that do. Also, you couldn't be more right in your assessment of episodes 1-3, they were god awful. I won't get into the details but the elements that made the original trilogy so great were sorely lacking in 1-3. Again, I'd love to see the franchise picked up but if there's a competitor already with the ST license, then it doesn't seem that is going to happen.
  4. Why can't both exist? This type of elitism is just what I was referring to. Calling Star Trek a 'joke' and attempting to insult Star Trek? For what reason? It makes no sense! Just let people like the things the like (the funniest thing is, I'm not even a big Star Trek fan, just thought it would be a neat idea).
  5. No, I have no doubt that the SW universe is more popular than star trek. But star trek has been around longer, and does have a huge following. The word 'trekkie' doesn't exist without cause. This wasn't an attempt to say one is better than the other (I know both camps tend to look down on the other) simply saying that there would be a market for it. I wasn't aware a competitor already had the star trek license...its too bad, as I think its a huge opportunity.
  6. I've been thinking that with the huge success of the star wars sets, and with the star trek movie franchise being rebooted with JJ Abrams 'Star Trek', I'd have to think that some attention should/must be paid attention to the franchise. Imagine all the sets they could bring out! I'd love to see a huge Enterprise (in any and all variations) among the scale of a millenium falcon. Am I alone in this, or is this something that's been discussed before? I think the potential is there for a ton of sets, with tons of success, and with the upcoming movie to tie it all to, I don't think the time has ever been better.
  7. I have to say that it was awesome seeing so many kids in there so into legos...with all the distractions that kids how nowadays, it was awesome to see so many kids truly excited in the lego store.
  8. This is a great promotion, too bad I'm here in the states. I'd love to get my hands on the little helicopter (I think it was the first one out?) if anyone out there has an extra I'd be more than willing to pick it up from you.
  9. Great site for checking for ads before they come out is http://bfads.net/
  10. I am 36 and live in central California (Modesto, to be exact).
  11. Greetings everyone :) I found this part of the world a couple days ago and signed up...I am quite partial to the classic space sets of my youth and for some reason love helicopter sets. Currently cataloging everything, but am wondering, is there a place where I can inventory my sets? Would be nice to have some sort of either website or program that allows you check off sets you own off a list, sort of a like a 'you have/you need' type situation. Thanks for having me, will be around often reading all the goings on.
  12. I bought the 4995 Cargo Copter, also picked up the 4993 Convertible and the 8297 off roader....convertible and copter were put together this evening, doing the off roader tomorrow.
  13. Everything I have read is pointing to stores slashing prices even more than normal this holiday season in an attempt to woo shoppers to return in droves to try to make this year a profitable one (at least here in the states). Expect some amazing deals in the black friday ads.
  14. I just got back from the new Lego store in Sacramento....wow! is all I can say. They had an 8' R2-D2 build in process on the main floor of the mall, and a drawing to guess how many bricks were going to be used to build it (my guess was 18,250...who knows how close I'll be). The winner gets $50 to spend in the store. The store was packed, and they had a line outside letting people in as people left. It was amazing to see some sets in person I'd only seen online before (the size of the Millennium Falcon is unbelievable!) and I wanted to see the chess set in person - it, too, looks fantastic. I wish the Eiffel Tower had been on display, though I can imagine it would be a nightmare in that packed store environment. The bulk lego concept is great, too, gives you the option to buy whatever color pieces you want/need. I bought a few sets...I'm really into the helicopter sets, so I picked up the 4995 Cargo Copter (hadn't been able to find it around here), also picked up the 4993 Convertible and the 8297 off roader. All in all a fun day...definitely worth the hour or so drive and the wait.
  15. Thanks for this post...I live just an hour away and will be definitely heading up there this weekend to check it out.
