Thank you for this review, Inertia. I believe I'll pick one of these up even though I have no other space sets. In my childhood I absolutely loved M-Tron and their magnets.
-
Nicely done. Makes me want to go play some Homeworld.

Great thread Eilif. Your setup already looks amazing and I cannot wait to see the finished product.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
dj2005 replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I may buy the cheapest set just to have a rock monster, but I can safely state that I will not buy anything more than that. -
Bought a second ticket. I figure that even if I don't win the money will go to a good cause, whether it be Hinckley or EB as a whole.

Congratulations TheBrickster and WhiteFang!
dj2005 replied to Shadows's topic in Forum Information and Help
Congratulations guys. You both deserved it. -
I completely agree with you, Sandy. To me, brick built animals (excluding horses and the obvious) are a step forward. I was reading a thread about this idea last week: http://www.classic-castle.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12156 I would love to see different colored foliage, too. Hopefully this becomes a reality sooner than later.

My Trip to the new Lego Store (lots of pics)
dj2005 replied to Numbuh23's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm surprised at how well they designed the store and its layout. Definitely nice to have such a place close by in case I need a really quick LEGO fix (even just looking at the displays would do it). -
Were Forestmen exclusive to only certain regions of the world?
-
Poor Luke. Great job on the review as always. I must agree with your conclusion as I am not a LEGO Star Wars collector but I am tempted to purchase this set. Don't think it will blend in with my Castle sets, however.
-
Thank you very much for this review of the oh so wonderful 6054 hideout. IMO, you just can't beat Forestmen sets.
-
Thanks guys. I love reading the reviews you two do so this means a lot and the reason the first few pictures are a bit blurry was due to me using a different lighting source/room. As for the Reviewers Academy, since I joined the site I've been longing to join and I may when I receive my new sets.

Ah Forestmen, my favorite LEGO minifigs. And I agree with the others - wrap-around is best.

I also never bothered to purchase this set when it was considered new, but with the possibility of BrickLink I did. If you ever have some extra cash then you can't go wrong with this set, IMO. Never know where Majisto may pop up. Thanks for the compliment and index addition. Thanks, Bonaparte! I also did not know about this set before a week ago. So many hidden treasures that I find browsing Brickset. I know which cage/prison you are talking about. A good idea as they would surely flow together. The Wizard's Shop is also a nice set from this theme. A tad small for a shop though. As for future reviews, I just purchased sets 6074, 6077, and 10000 today so I'll try to do reviews for each of them (I splurged ).

Name: 6048 Majisto’s Magical Workshop Number of pieces: 183 Year released: 1993 Original price: $26 This is my first review on this site and I wanted to burst my cherry on an older set. Set 6048 is part of the Dragon Knight's theme, and while many of the sets pertaining to this theme are not particularly good, set 6048 is definitely worth a purchase. Since I purchased this set used, I do not have a box or instructional booklet. I used the online instructions available on peeron.com and found that the build was much harder than it should have been due to being unable to distinguish black on black pieces. However, after building it once, things are a breeze. Now onto the review: Jumble of pieces: +As you may note, this set contains a wonderful selection of parts. There are weapons, shutters, green foliage, and so on. The minifigs: Dragon Knight: +Comes fully equipped and with a bearded face that gives him a sinister appearance. Needless to say, I love him. Majisto: +He utilizes the old smiley face. Comes with the glow-in-the-dark star wand, blue cap, black cape, white beard, and blue Forestmen torso print. The build: Early on: +The LURPs (or BURPs?) create the foundation of the structure. Not much to be seen as of yet. +The interior. A tad further: +Things are beginning to come together now. And further: +Almost there! Done: Front: +Built to perfection. +The little gray latch piece is used to hold the house together. While this isn't required for display purposes as the house stays flush on its own, it is great for transportation. Back: +The back of the house is quite plain but has a chimney for extra detail. This chimney connects with the interior's stove. Left side: Nicely furnished with a tree and foliage. Right side: +Identical to the left side. Interior overview: +Surprisingly roomy for a small house. Contains a chest behind the ladder, a gray table created from a 6x2 LEGO block, two clear goblets, a magic scroll, a piece built lighting source, a black pot being heated on top of a stove, and a sword in case of an unexpected ambush. Interior closeups: +The Dragon Knight standing guard. +Majisto ready to cast a devious conjure spell. +It pays to be a wizard... Scoring: Minifigs: 7/10 - Only two minifigs and a bird. For $26 I expect more. Design: 10/10 - A fully functional house that contains plenty of space. Playability: 9.5/10 - Since this set does not have a battle occurring, much can be left up the the owner. The minifigs and house have so many possibilities. Piece count: 8.5/10 - 183 pieces and only two minifigs are nothing spectacular, but the pieces that are included are worthwhile due to their usefulness. Total: 35/40 - A great set. I recommend this to anyone looking for an extra house for their display.

I have a silly question: Is there a deadline to enter into the raffle or will it run until all fifty tickets are purchased?
-
Entered. Good luck to all other ticket holders.

I'm a fan of the new torso print (not that the old ones were bad). Like Dark_Avenger, I have the minifigs with the new torso as higher grade guards.

Ideas for 10193 Medieval Market Village add-ons
dj2005 replied to Klaus-Dieter's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I hope to see a tax collector with gold coins and a carriage (with guard/enforcer). -
$100 (USD) is quite a feat and hard to believe but there are sets such as the Green Grocer where the value is close (~6.3 cents a piece [Green Grocer] vs ~6.2 cents a piece [set 10193]). Thing is, this set has so many more minifigs, not even counting the animals. However, I would find it a bit weird for LEGO to announce the price now and then change it during release, which is only three months away. Ah well, here's to hoping it stays the same. {insert beer glass icon here}

Which Castle Sets Do you want for 2009?
dj2005 replied to The Rancor's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I wouldn't mind seeing a Troll Castle. I'd imagine a lot of useful brown bricks would be used and a place to store all my Trolls would be most helpful. I think they get a bit bored acting as paid henchmen for my Dwarves. A tree (Elven) based set would also be very nice, but I'd prefer if TLC fleshed out the existing factions (Trolls/Dwarves/and possibly Skeletons) more before jumping to a new faction. Still, I love the Forestmen concept and if the Elven sets share similarities with those, then I doubt I'd be disappointed. Of course, more impulse sets are always a good thing. They bring new people to the theme and allow existing members to beef up their respective armies, as well as sometimes offering rarer minifigs such as the Good Wizard. Plus, sometimes some of us just need a quick LEGO fix and for ~$3.50 it does the job. Lastly, to go with the new 10193 set, more medieval village sets to create a unique and varied village would add a lot to any existing Castle set. If the 10193 set sells well then maybe TLC will start to produce a fair amount of village sets. Even one set like 10193 on a yearly basis would be amazing. The wait between each set would be painful, though. As you can tell, I really don't mind what types of sets are introduced, just that they are worth the money. Hopefully the 10193 Medieval Market Village set is only a sliver of the goodness that will be Castle 2009. -
