Ah, tread sprocket! Cheers, couldn't for the life of me think what they where called. Suprisingly hard to search for if you dont have the correct name.

Evening all. Im in the process of spending my hard earned xmas overtime pay, and have decided to venture into the world of caterpillar tracks. But despite easily locating the track sections, Im having problems with the sprockets. My main problem is I do not know what the actual parts are called/numbered to search for them, nor am I entirely sure what is actually available. Could somebody help me on this please? Cheers, J.

One thought Im having is I may ditch the pendular front axles in favour of fixed as im aiming for maximum power/torque and pulling ability.Still 8x8 though.

I have the 8110, and Im always open to ideas

The older style diff carrier is ideal for this, not only does it make the driven/steered pendular axle possible, but using a second one for the second axle also works for the geared reduction of the second axle's steering. The fun part however will be building this setup into my chassis!

@ Matias, thats exactly what im aiming for. Only difference is im looking to have 2 steered axles.

Im working on that one this very moment Should also add that the front axle idea is for a pendular setup.

Evening all. Sorry for the lack of updates on this, have been busy trying out a few things. Firstly, as I mentioned earlier on I am intending to make this a true 8x8. Im pretty sure I have found a way to achieve this, which I am quite pleased about as this is my first attempt at a driven and steered axle this small. Still a work in progress at this stage. Secondly, having discovered my winch too be pretty darn powerful, I came to the conclusion the truck needed some sort of handbrake. At first I was quite happy with a mechanical lever and linkage running along the chassis to the cab, but decided this was a bit crude and bulky. So decided instead to use the pneumatic compressor and a small ram to do the job. The actual brake utilizes one of the gear selector parts onto a fixed gear. Hopefully the pictures will explain things a bit better than I can.

In comparison to their smaller version, they are a much nicer wheel and tyre combo. The tyre material seems a little softer and there is a noticeable difference between where the tyre tread changes to sidewall, as a result they are very life like in appearance. Its just a shame there are not more available. Ive had a few ideas for some builds using them. firstly when paired with a pair of the 62.2 x20s they look too be good for a small urban tractor with non mud tyres. Such as the smaller JCB's and similar.

Just so people don't think Im trolling..

Must admit Im thinking they could easily fund my ever increasing need for more interesting parts too fiddle with. The creative juices are flowing! Possible second set of Unimog wheels, portals and gearbox parts to name a few. Im wondering if instead of trying to sell them myself that it may be worth contacting a few online sellers and seeing if they would interested in some sort of like for like trade.

Well I was planning too build them into something, but Im not sure now.
