By looking at the pictures used to display this set I've a sneaky suspicion it did not come with instructions but meant for the pictures to be ideas. The whole set was suppose to teach children to use their imagination, giving them instructions would somewhat defeat this while trying to figure how to build things from looking at pictures would be a much better educational experience.

Why pay $350 Dollars, just download the instructions on buy the pieces off Bricklink. This is was I did when I wanted to create the Blacktron II in the Futuron colour scheme. Also I tend to like both sets of base plates, I bought the black ones myself and they were of great use but there more for creating the idea of a city or space station, something more completely man made. The gray ones give a better look of the roads being laid over bare rock especially when you introduce the plates with the craters. I would love to see a 48*48 baseplate with roads through them which would allow more building space on the side and maybe some craters. Also 48*48 baseplates with craters but a few different kinds to create more or a realistic look and less of a repeating pattern. And with all those rocks you have to put everything up on supports, much better looking bases then.

The moonbase standard is pretty good but when I started trying to use it I found everything became a bit boxy also so I stopped trying to build the connections into the main module. I started building a simple crossroads module and the place the module I wanted above this. This gave the added benefit of having a lot of supports which gave it more of a metal structure feel. I created a good few using LDraw and rendered them with POV ray tracer. Moonbase The pictures are posted here.

This set is ­75 Euro on lego website. So going by the lego's pricing this set will probably about $60. One reason they get them cheaper is there's no VAT.

No its a German shop, but I took the link from my Ebay favourites. I was only charged 8 euro shipping no matter how many sets I bought, madness.

Great review, this is a brilliant set, one I always wanted but never did manage to get as a kid. Thankfully ebay came to the rescue and I managed to get one of these for 30 euro, then another one. I got lukier again when I spotted a box of lego up for sale with some of the pieces for this set in it. Turned out to actually contain one of each of all the M-Tron sets and a Blacktron 1 alienator and all for 20 euro. Moral the story, its worth keeping an eye out on ebay. I saw one of these go boxed for less than 10 recently. I also got parts off Bricklink and built this in the Futuron and Blacktron 1 colour schemes. I was planning on selling them once I was done but couldn't bring myself to do it. I want to build one in classic space colour scheme now.
