I think The Hobbit films will stay in the minds of the general public a lot longer than Harry Potter or PotC. Although all high grossing films, The Hobbit will win more awards (because it'll be infinitely times better ). Another separating factor is the Tolkien universe, similarly to Star Wars though not quite on the same scale, is very expansive so there's plenty of ideas to explore.

I think the stud is there simply to look leggoish and allow for customisations such as having Frodo stand on his back or attaching a laser beam

I considered the Doors of Durin, but thought the Watcher would climb the price too high. Especially if they made it large enough to be articulated.

I see your point. The $20-$30 range is difficult because a lot of the iconic scenes (such as The Bridge of Khazad-dûm) would go beyond that. From the fellowship alone, I can only think of one good choice, Bucklebury Ferry, but I'm not sure how willing TLG would be to include all 4 hobbits in a $20-$30 set. Not very I assume.

I would say it's unlikely a Tolkien fan would begin an interest in LEGO from these LotR sets. Especially when there already exists a wide and very attractive range of other LotR collectibles. However the collectors that are also parents might jump on board.

Hello everyone, first post! I don't collect LEGO but very rarely I buy new sets cheap off eBay, build them then resell later as used. Nostalgia is a comforting feeling. I'm very interested in the LOTR sets (been waiting for years) so that's how I stumbled upon this forum. Depending on how expensive they are in Australia, I may only purchase Mines of Moria because it's a favourite movie moment of mine. I just wish there was a cheap way of obtaining the entire fellowship
