Once I've gotten the main part brick built, I'll definitely be involving some Blacktrons in the scene - it just wouldn't capture the spirit without it! The Blacktrons sneaking around, and getting cornered etc was one of the things that always stuck in my mind when I looked at the old catalogues, so they and a small Space Police I section will be a key part of the layout as I build - I've cleared an entire desk for this so there's plenty of room for expansion beyond what's already designed. As far as is reasonably possible, I'll release instructions/part lists for the base sections as well if people want - there's nothing hideously complex yet, and it'd be satisfying to see what other people could modify with the designs as well. The wall section is slightly lower than the version in the reference photos by roughly three bricks, but otherwise is as accurate as I can make it from the tiny section of wall shown in the 1990 edition. The eventual plan is to curve it round at the runway/landing pad end, and have it run along there at a 90 degree angle to the existing wall, along with some form of access lift (when I figure out the most stable way to do so) Thanks for all the positive feedback so far, really adds encouragement to work on this

Hey folks, Just escaped from my brickless dark age, and thought I'd introduce myself by showing the very very (first day or so's work) on my project to recreate an M-Tron outpost in the style we saw them depicted in the 1990 and 91 lego catalogues. I'm planning this plate being the first of several, and I have every intention of brick building once the designs are done (or at least the first plate is designed and I know what parts I need to acquire etc) Not a lot to show yet, other than getting the first wall/catwalk done, staying as close to what you can see of the wall in the 1990 photo as possible, and that'll be the theme I go with for the remainder of the main structure, with smaller buildings/transport systems being built around the red/black colour scheme. Feedback and suggestions are very welcome, and I'll try and keep the thread updated with more renders and eventually photos when the brick building commences. For those who want more detail, there are two higher res images as well, one at 1600x1200, and one at 6400x4800 (Warning! 8mb file) for those with too much bandwidth to spare. I can't post links yet, but if you replace the resolution numbers in the image URL from the one I've embedded with the one larger sizes it'll bring them up.
