I'm actually LOVING the "Crown Lions" minifigures. So what if Lego decided to use a more "LEGO like design" in this heraldry? Look at the large quality pictures with their shields - they looks gorgeous. I admit I don't like their Castle / Fortress, it's way spartan, so I'm hoping for a more "fantasy" like set more ahead to serve as their home. The Dragon Peak, the Gatehouse and the Carriage all look good to me :)

It surely seems King Leo's faction :) Too bad they had to do another four walled Castle. Why not something more alike the original King Leo's Castle? Lego Kingdoms had a spartan Castle already, so this was a perfect opportunity for them to do a proper "Palace type" Castle for King Leo. Great minifigures though. Let us hope this leads to some more gorgeous sets.

CMF Series 7 Black Knight... It's a Boar
DawnCrusader replied to andhe's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I agree with you, for some reason, LEGO faction logo design in Castle has been consistently becoming more and more realistic / detailed. Since I view the LEGO aesthetics as a kind of "cartoonization" of real life (I mean, look at the minifigs ), I'm not sure this is the right path to go. One just has to look that the Kingdoms faction logos are much more detailed and sober than previous faction logos... -
The Lego Knights Kingdoms 1 Lion Knights Sets 2000 - 2002
DawnCrusader replied to SirSven7's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Spot on Jack Bricker I find myself sometimes wondering about redoing the King Leo's Castle with towers like Kingdoms Joust 10223 or 7946 King's Castle from the current Kingdoms line. Having detailed towers with those beautiful rooftops would make it truly beautiful. Even though making five or 6 towers styled like the ones from 10223 would require alot of bricks -
Wow, great work, from top to bottom, building and terrain Even with it's huge size, it has alot of detail, so many points of interest. I wish there was a couple more minifigs to just give the finishing touch to this set. Keep it up

The Lego Knights Kingdoms 1 Lion Knights Sets 2000 - 2002
DawnCrusader replied to SirSven7's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Thanks for another outstanding review SirSven7, it was a pleasure reading, as always I agree with most points you make of course, there was alot of room for improvement regarding the buildings of the whole line. I still think, in my highly biased opinion ( ), that most people ignore the type of castle 6091/6098 was intended to be. Forgetting the aesthetical appreciation subjectivity, it's the Castle with most "towers" I remember, and it's possibly the only one that has a huge tower as it's focus, that includes the largest throne room of all Lego Castles (along with top floors, with a place for the Queen and has a lookout for the archers). The throne room isn't in some wall or side tower, it's the center of the Castle, and it may be weird that it is next to the gate, but with already three levels where the minifigures can go about, another one or inside walls to fix this out of the box was maybe a little too much for the brickcount Anyway, it all could be alot better, maybe this theme / style would fair alot better nowadays with a higher brickcount and the notion that AFOL are willing to pay a bit more for more design quality Once again, awesome review, can't wait for the next one -
After thinking a bit, I have to agree with de Gothia. The Bulls may not have the most beautiful or complex sets, but at least they're pretty consistent. I mean, their goal is to siege, and siege weapons they have! That's their thing For me, thematically, the only set that doesn't make sense for The Bulls is Cedric and the Dragon... A Knight of a faction with a bull as a symbol, riding a Dragon, isn't aesthetically pleasing, and it's plain weird

Oh wow, wow, wow, truly, truly beautiful work Elander Love it, the *only* thing I think it could be improved, IMHO, is the amount of foliage, which I would add a bit more. Other than that, wow

Once again, great review SirSven7 You point out several good points on why this faction could be much more, the main one for me being the lack of a Castle and the repetion of the characters (Cedric, Gilbert and Weezil) over all sets. Maybe if the line went on for more a couple of years we could see the fleshing out of the bulls, even the addition of new armor / weapon pieces as their trademark visual, just like King Leo's soldiers received a new helmet mold. A pitty it didn't.

Thanks just2good The throne room doesn't have a lot of detail, but *is* imposing. It's the biggest throne room in lego history if I'm not wrong, and with the throne placed in the middle of it and the lion flag as a background, it looks stunning (It reminds me of the Lordaeron Throne room from Warcraft III ). And, each tower actually has some detail. Since their interiors aren't that big, the ammount of detail is just right. Great work Apple Pi :) Love the wall, the landscape, the mansion and it's interior... Really, awesome MOC! The only *little* thing that bugs me is the colour you used for the top floor of the mansion (dark yellow?).

Another great overview of a Castle era SirSven7 I agree that the theme is generally bad looking, but as you point out, there are some interesting impulse sets with some good minifigures. But I guess the one thing that first set me against this theme was it's faction symbol. It seems completly detached from the quality logos we've seen in previous factions, and it makes the shields appear cheap. Since the shields are in this faction buildings and minifigures, it weights heavilly for a weak look & feel throughout the line... Anyway, great review!

Precisely my thoughts Thanks Ardelon One only needs to have the very few buildings of the Knight's Kingdom line to really have enough modules and bricks to make King Leo's Castle much more pleasant from all angles No problem SirSven7, if you look at the set instructions, you can easily understand that eatch tower / section fits in one of the each four corners of the baseplate the same way. Because both towers of the 6094 Guarded Treasure have the same base as the King Leo's Castle towers, they're interchangable between them Well and I'm looking forward to your review on this line, I'm loving all the reviews you post on your blog I'm also curious about your take on the Fantasy Era, I thought most sets were *spectacular*, but the feeling I have is that the community embraced more the Kingdoms (the latest) line more, because of it's more realistic take on the sets architecture.

Thank you all for the comments, and I realise this is much of a hate or love set The extra builds, in particular the 6094 Guarded Treasure, which compromises the little dungeon and the tower with the "Excalibur", can be switched with the regular King Leo's Castle towers. For example, one can simply remove the catapult tower and insert the Dungeon from the 6094 set My last two pictures show the integration of those extra builds, and on another note, I used the alternative building as per LEGO's instructions of the 6095 Royal Joust, so that a kind of entrance (to the Royal stable? ) could fill the back of the castle.

Thank you for the kind words RPGer :) I suppose I could've talked more about the other aspects of this set, such as the catapult, the lionhead parts, the nicelly detailed window, and properly named the characters included: King Leo, Queen Leonora, Princess Storm, Cedric the Bull... But as I looked and took the photos I think I really dwelved and lost myself into the sense that you're in front of something beautiful, that just from looking to it, that's what you expected from a castle that's on top of a hill, representing goddness and fairness, in a Kingdom where war is really a strong word for the little skirmishes with Cedric :)

Hello all :) I've been in these forums for a while, and because I've never posted before, I thought of giving something back to the community. So I love the Knight's Kingdoms I line (heresy I know ), and I found that there are few reviews out there of it's large set, the King Leo's Castle. There are actually to identical sets of King Leo's Castle, 6091, which is the USA edition, and the one I bought, 6098, the one released in Europe. So, the first thing I want to point out is this: The point is, LEGO designers were clearly aiming for a beautiful, almost fairy like castle, much like the Disney one. The most proeminent aspects of the castle are the airy towers and the enourmous flag in the throne room, that we can see behind the gate. Left side: Right side: Back: So, at this point you're problably saying "yeah it's interesting from the front, ONLY! Anyone can invade this castle! Where's the back?". True, the castle has several military flaws: Where are the back walls? Where are the left and right walls? The throne room is very exposed. The airy towers are <insert that tiresome argument>. There is no drawbridge mechanism. So, the Lego designers failed miserably. Or didn't they? Now, at least to me, this looks beautiful and impressive. And how about this? A simply stunning Princess overlooking the Kingdom. And she's not alone in the handsomeness: Even the bad guys look good: And King Leo says to you "Did you notice my castle is modular? We can put the towers anywhere we want!". And he says rightly so. Not only that, but as soon as you buy the modular sets from the Knight's Kingdoms line, 6094 Guarded Treasure, 6095 Royal Joust, 4817 Dungeon, you will start thinking "Hey, it was just what this castle needed!" So, the following two photos were me messing around the King Leo's Castle and the Knight's Kingdom's sets: My final conclusion, yes this is a highly vulnerable castle, it doesn't look good from all angles, it's <insert that tiresome argument>, but... It's beautiful, it's fun, and one can have pleasant moments messing around with its modular configuration and the other sets in the line. To anyone who likes fantasy castles, such as the King's Castle Siege (which I own and love as well), I recomend this set :) Congratulations to everyone for such a fantastic community, and I hope my review sheds some light in King Leo's Castle.

DawnCrusader replied to ihira's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
First of all, hi to everyone :) I've been lurking around for some time the Historic Themes and Pirate Themes forums of Eurobricks but only now I've decided to join in hehe :) Anyway, awesome collection ihira! I presently have the King's Castle Siege and the Black Falcon's Fortress as my only castles, and I was looking to buy the next one. I wanted a "fairy castle", and I was thing about the King's Castle 10176, 6090 Royal Knight's Castle, or maybe even King Leo's Castle (I know, most here will say sacrilege for putting those two castles next to 6090 hehe)... Since you have the King's Castle, what do you think of it? I've read several reviews of it, but most people are disapointed with it. Since your favorite castle is King's Castle Siege (which is my own as well :D ), I'm very interested in your sincere opinion of the 10176 King's Castle. Once again, great collection, and I wish you posted more photos of it! :)
