  1. Oh yeah, sorry for not being clear. I forget we're not all in the "festival state of mind." The Theme Leader is the person who's in charge of making all the Pirate MOCs fit nicely together in the alotted space. If we get mucho turnout the Theme Leader will work with other Theme Leaders to steal some of their tables as needed, etc. The Theme Leader may also create a Pirate-themed game or challenge for AFOLs to compete, give out trophies, or settle tie votes, etc. Theme Leaders are generally around the opening night to help guide AFOLs as they arrive, find their tables, etc. I got one contact via the BrickFair website, thank you very much. However that person didn't include their name and didn't fill in the Email Address box, so I have no idea who they are :( But I'll answer their question here: You must be 18 or over to attend, or you must have a parent register with you who also attends. I dunno about other countries, but there's a couple festivals spread across the USA throughout the year. It's a super-trippy experience. If you ever have the chance, I suggest trying to catch one! I'm going to aim for the 3 big ones myself this year, BrickFair (of course, I run the thing), Brickworld and BrickCon.
  2. Hello all from BrickFair. We've received a few emails asking about Pirates at BrickFair this year. So we're expecting and hoping for a good Pirate turnout this August. We need a Pirates Theme Leader. If anyone is interested, please go to www.BrickFair.com and click Contact Us. Thank you, and I hope to see you all at BrickFair '09. Todd
  3. Someone has approached me about making a video about AFOLs which would include a lot of videotaping of the BrickFair Lego festival coming up this summer. It sounded like, from what he described his vision, it would be a lot like what you are asking. We shall see what he ends up doing. I think it could be really cool. I would love for BrickFair to be that video you are seeking. Although, admittedly, I'm not sure a video could even being to capture it. Like the after-hours dinners, drinking, etc. Some stuff you just have to be there for to appreciate. Todd
  4. BrickFair Hats and Polo Shirts Pre-Order Now! We are now taking pre-orders for BrickFair hats and polo shirts. Save $3 off all polo shirts and $3 off all hats right now. As you know, shirts at the events are in limited quantity -- and certainly in limited sizes. Pre-ordering is the only way to guarantee the shirt you want in the size you want. BrickFair locals may pick up their order at the wamalug meeting. Or you may opt for a flat $3 shipping fee to anywhere in the USA (limited time offer, for pre-orders only). Or we will gladly hold your order for you to pick up at the BrickFair event in August 2008. Shop here: BrickFair.com/bling Pre-orders are due by 3/30/08. We are embroidering only for pre-orders. We are submitting our shirts/hat purchase on 4/1/08, so place your order now and save $3 off everything right now! Grab a great shirt, and have a great time :) The BrickFair Team
  5. LOL. Yeah, no kidding! BrickFilms folk really tore into me for this idea :) Oh well. Since the challenge is already announced, and we already have our first entrant, I am obliged to stick to the original advertised plan. Besides, it was only supposed to be fun, not a life-of-death kinda thing. Todd
  6. Good thinking Robin! Thank you for that idea :)
  7. Well let us hope. Not much feedback on this idea yet :'-(
  8. Win $100 to BrickFair 2008! Make a video and submit it to YouTube. On August 1st, 2008 the video with the most "Views" (according to YouTube) wins a $100 gift certificate good for anything BrickFair has to offer: registration, shirts, hats, event kits. The video must: * Be your original creation, * Be clearly LEGO related, * Clearly state the BrickFair.com website, and * Be relatively family-friendly. Post your video any time. Obviously, early submission increases your chances for more views. But a better video also increases your chances. Visit BrickFair.com for details and complete rules. This contest may lend itself to LEGO stop-motion video, but that's not required. The style of your video is entirely up to you. Good luck, and have fun! The BrickFair Team
  9. Ouch, I feel your pain. To come so close, but yet so far :(
  10. ImperialScouts, how'd you get to the front door but not get in? You mean you stood at the front door of the convention? Or of your house? Exobuilder, ticket prices: One-day Entrance: Children 13 to 93: $10 Children 6 to 12: $5 Duplo: free Whole weekend: 18 and up: $60 11 - 17: $40 Up to 10: free (no name tag provided) More details about attending can be found here: http://www.brickfair.com/attend/Public.asp I hope to see you there, Todd
  11. Yeah, I know the date isn't idea. For 2009 we're working on the previous weekend (which sounds like it doesn't help you any more, but may help high-schoolers). We are very limited by locations that are large enough to handle this sized event, are cheap enough to afford, and haven't already booked up. Our hotel, The Sheraton Premiere, is nearly full booked 3 years in advance -- except for this one not-ideal weekend. As for cool stuff, we're working on setting up pre-orders for polo shirts and hats in February. T-shirts cannot be printed in small quantities, so they won't be availble until the event. But if any are left over after the event I would, of course, be happy to sell you some and ship it to you. As for event kits, most likely they will not be available until the event too. Not set in stone yet, but that's our current leaning. Again, if quantities permit, happy to sell and ship to you after the event. See www.BrickFair.com/news for updates. Todd
  12. Wooo hoooo! We've been front-paged!!! Awesome post dude! Thanks! And YES, YOU ALL ARE INVITED! I only partly hint that it's an AFOL (adult) event because, being the old geezer that I am, I may not have young kids' best vision for a fun convention. But wherever we fail, we will surely make up in 2009. PSPguy, Will Chapman of BrickArms stated, three months ago, that they intended to be there. So we certainly hope to see BrickArms there! hollisbrick, I'm not sure where you are coming from (your tag says you're from Australia), but assuming you're in the USA, you should keep your eyes on this board: http://www.brickfair.com/travel/RideShare.asp It's a forum where people can look for and hook up on Ride-Shares. I can't be sure how many people will want to chaufeur a 15-year-old (since you can't help with the driving work), but you never know. This early response is great! I hope you all have a great time! Todd
  13. Woah, don't let me be mis-quoted. $10,000 is for charity. If we can make any more than that -- and I'm hoping we can -- the rest is for making subsequent shows better and for profit. At $10,000 charity, I'll sleep at night just fine :) I don't know exactly what it means to be "front paged," but it sounds great. Thank you! I've been told that the old BrickFest (in 2006) had a significant European turnout. So it would be great to let those same folks know that DC has a festival again. Thank you, Todd
  14. BrickFair, a Lego festival of epic proportions (well, we hope) is coming to Washington DC this Labor Day weekend. Our pitiful American dollar is weak. Why not plan a trip to DC this summer, and join us for a weekend of LEGO fun?! We need your tourist euros. Visit www.BrickFair.com. Register for the site (even if you don't register to attend the event) to receive monthly emails with updates, news and offers. It's the best and easiest way to keep up to date. Of course, you can always surf the news yourself at www.BrickFair.com/news. We hope to make this a grand adult-focused event. Of course the kids are welcome too. Part of our proceeds goes to a local children's charity which helps children with food, education and clothing in various parts of the world. Our goal is $10,000 for this charity (see www.SladeChild.org). Visitors can use any of the three major airports in the DC area, although Dulles is the closest and most convenient. More travel info can be found at: www.BrickFair.com/travel. We hope to see you all there! Todd
