  1. Just stopped at a local TRU... no 30212 bags =( They had lots of 30213 bags though which I'm less than excited about.
  2. I love Brikwars! My son and I play it now and then. Even got some of my friends to join in some games. We use the Quikwars version so it's just a 1 page doc of rules and away you go! We run all kinds of games and scenarios... castle... space... and everything in between. Using Quikwars there's little to do with "points" or weapon types. I find that long melee weapons are awesome because you can close in to melee before your opponent can. Also favor the technique of using squads to use combined attacks and decimate opponents one at a time. We are also switching over to Lego for our PathfinderLITEgames =)
  3. When I look at a character sheet of a typical Pathfinder or D&D character.... this is what I think they would look like! This guy is awesome; well done. So does his horse carry all the non-weapon items? 10' ladder, pots, pans, tent, bedroll, tools, etc. etc.....
  4. Ya know this usually turns out looking like (&$#*@.... you actually did a REALLY clean job there. Well done! Did you use masking to achieve such clean lines?
  5. Oh man! Another awesome release Trash... love this stuff!
  6. Oh man that's suck an awesome build! I love how it all comes apart for easy access. To me that's a HUGE feature that also requires even more thought put into the build process. It's easy to focus in on details but the details of the stone walls and vegetation really make it interesting at a distance.
  7. That's not really what I meant. What I mean is, for example, I don't have very many female heads. I'd like to just buy 20 female heads at a fair price per head.... not spend $10 for 3 over priced minifigs. There's really no point to the Build A Figure station for someone like me. You can get all the same complete figures, or individual pieces, cheaper elsewhere. Then again I'm not exactly the target market for the Build A Figure station I guess. You don't see a half a dozen or so 30-something nerds huddled around all 4 stations =P It's crowded with young kids.
  8. You could just take a white one and dye it blue http://www.minifigcustomizationnetwork.com/howto/1675
  9. The Lego store at Mall of America often has neat things like this in their Build A Minifig stations. Sadly it's $10 for 3 minifigs... far better off just buying from Bricklink, discounted sets, or other means. Wish they would just let us buy individual bits like torsos, heads, etc. The Pick A Brick is all but useless.
  10. That's flip'n ossum! =^.^=
  11. First let me say... I'm not sure what forum to put this in. I thought either here since it's Pharoh's Quest or Minifig Mod. If it's in the wrong spot then move it, thanks! =) I'm sure you're all aware of the technique. http://thebrickblogger.com/2011/01/lego-glued-magnet-removal/ I followed the instructions with these minor adjustments. - Doing it one at a time is lame and a waste of time. As long as you can keep them separated (the magnets tend to want to stick together!) then you can do more than one at a time. - Five minutes was no where near long enough. After 5 minutes I wedged a sharp knife between the back of the legs and the magnet base. Stuck them back in the water, with the knife still wedged in there, for at least another 5 minutes. This kept pressure on the pieces while they soaked some more. Even after this it took considerably more force to pry them apart than is eluded to in the instructions. Overall I'm happy with the results. This was a fun little experiment to do with my kids as well. The legs and arms are all still tight. Back of the legs are a little rough but whatever; I don't really care. Some of them are rough on the bottom of the feet... this I do not like as it effects how tightly they snap to studs and basically means they will not stand with out some sort of base. Now I'm already a big fan of using bases for figures during a BrikWar anyway because of how easy they are to tip over even if their feet are smooth. They still snap to studs and do not easily fall over but they are just not quite as tight a fit as regular minifigs. Not a deal breaker but something to be aware of. Another slight con is that the legs do not come off; that is the hips do not remove from the torso. I spose you could pop the legs off the hip joints to swap legs around. Again not a deal breaker but something worth noting. The real big positive about this is the fact these magnet sets go on sale for $3.50. That means I was able to get an Anubis Guard, Amset Ra, and Jake LeDouche for $3.50. Just a quick search on Brick Link will show that Anubis Guard goes for $9 + shipping, Amset Ra goes for $5 + shipping, and Jake goes for $2. I honestly don't care about Jake; I really wanted the Anubis Guards and the mummies. One more small con here... it's not REALLY Amset Ra despite the description on Lego's own website! Bit of bait and switch here... It's Amset Ra's head on a regular mummy warrior body with the Pharaoh headdress. If you closely inspect a picture of both Amset Ra and mummy warrior you'll notice the differences. Again not really a deal breaker; really I'd prefer the mummy warrior as this is more of an 'army builder' technique anyway. Cheap way to amass quantities of Anubis Guards and mummy warriors.... and a bunch of Jake LeDouche's... for whatever reason =P Mummy Warrior... note the lack of gold running from neck piece to waist. Also note difference in waist & neck decorations. This is the torso and legs in the magnet set. Amset Ra.... you only get the head from Amset Ra. The torso and legs are totally different than this picture and look identical to the mummy above. One more little bonus is that you get 3 maps with the magnet set. They pop right off; not glued on at all. I love little bits like this and this was a neat bonus. Plus you get the sweet megablocks Anubis Guard's sword, the scarab shield, and the headdress. All neat bits that again are not glued.
  12. http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/7327_Scorpion_Pyramid Got it for $30 ! Score!!
  13. I haven't figured out when they do it. I just swing by the clearance isles every time I stop by and hope to see something there. I've seen a few sets over the years but it's rarely anything I want. I guess that's why it's still there and now on clearance... nobody else wanted it that much either. =P
  14. Black is hard to appreciate because it all just blends together so details get lost. That said; this is a really great set! There's enough other colors to help define the shape and details. I love the lines and angles; for example the center room there that juts out or the lone gable up on the left and the chimney on the right to give it asymmetrical balance. Love how you did the flower pots outside the windows. There's a lot of detail in this build! The only thing that bothers me are the clips above the front door. The odd angles they are at just make it seem messy not like it was done on purpose. Is the inside complete? Would love to see it if it is! What makes it modular? Thanks!
  15. Wish they had YOU designing sets back then! This is a neat little set... well done overall, there's action, there's a basis for the action, enough minifigs to enjoy the set with.
  16. Very nice work. A real finished and clean piece that most fall short of. The legs really interest me. Are those official Lego pieces or custom?
  17. You shouldn't even need to bring the water to a boil. Lots of people have used hot water to fix bent plastic miniatures for various games. Most do not suggest boiling the water. I'm sure you've seen the article online of the guy who explains how to detach Lego minifigs from their magnetic bases using hot water. He recommends 160 degrees which is well below boiling point. Here's a couple of references http://thebrickblogger.com/2011/01/lego-glued-magnet-removal/ http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/562761/how-to-fix-miniatures-that-are-bent Please respond with your results! This could be some good info for moding other parts such as the Indiana Jones whip, traditional Lego whips, or other somewhat bendy parts.
  18. Cool, thanks for the quick response Badger. Not like the bipod is a deal breaker or anything; I just saw it depicted in the photos so was naturally curious. If you get a chance to play with the ammo drum connections please respond but if not... no big deal... I'll just have to get one myself and find out right? =)
  19. DP 28 is freak'n sweeeet! Does the bipod come with it or separately? Does the ammo canister on top come off? If it comes off... is it any standard sized pin / hole so that the canister can be easily used elsewhere OR something else be stuck on top of the gun? Thanks!
  20. 1. 5615 The Knight vs. 7955 Wizard - Battle of the impulses - 7955; no contest. Here's why: You get knights like that in tons of other sets. The wizard looks sweet, comes with an awesome familiar, and the printed tile of ossum. 2. 7090 Crossbow Attack vs. 7950 Knight's Showdown - Battle of the army builders - This one is tougher for me to decide... a draw perhaps? 7090 comes with a skeleton with sweet skeletal horse, 3 minifigs in all, artillery... it's a good set especially for the category of Army Builder. 7950 is just as great though; two knights with one all decked out, catapult, and two minifigs. I guess the tie breaker would be number of minifigs since you called this one 'battle of army builders' and you'd want the most minifig bang for your buck... so 7090 wins... barely. 3. 7037 Tower Raid vs. 7948 Outpost Attack - Battle of the besieged towers - Hardly a contest here; 7037. Why? It's just more epic. The tower is bigger and the siege weapon is badder... bigger and badder is better! =) 4. 7078 King's Battle Chariot vs. 7188 King's Carriage Ambush - Battle of the royal carriages - Easily going with 7188 on this one. The set overall is just better; larger scene, carriage is a more interesting design, one more horse, and more interesting bits. 5. 7093 Skeleton Tower vs. 7947 Prison Tower Rescue - Battle of the evil towers - 7093 is a big win especially for the category of EVIL towers. Honestly the dragon alone draws no contest from the other set but that aside the skeleton tower is much more evil and interesting. 6. 7094 King's Castle Siege vs. 7946 King's Castle - Battle of the castles - Another tough one here; love them both. I think the dragon will have to be the tie breaker here... 7094 wins. 7. 10193 Medieval Market Village vs. 10223 Joust - Battle of the exclusives - This one is difficult for me as well. I love them both; very interesting scenes with lots of pieces. Ultimately I think the versatility of the market village is higher but the only thing really exclusive about it is the sum of its parts... you can get any of those parts in a bunch of other sets. Where as the joust has parts that I think you can only get in that set. I guess if I HAD to choose I'd say 10223 given the exclusive nature of some parts and the category. 8. 7979 Castle Advent Calendar vs. 7952 Kingdoms Advent Calendar - Battle of the holidays - Ugh, I honestly can't decide. Really.. I know some of them are close but nothing about either of these jumps out and says "Yeah, this is better". Sorry... draw... for real this time. 9. 7029 Skeleton Ship Attack vs. 7189 Mill Village Raid - Battle of the wildcards - Going with 7189 on this one. The ship is rather ugly IMHO. 7189 has a very interesting scene and more versatility. So lets add this up... Castle: 4 Kingdoms: 4 Heh.. a draw... I guess I have to score number 8 to to break the draw. However I'm not going to. I think a draw best sums up my opinion about these product lines. They are all awesome and I want them all =)
  21. And what a beginning you have! This is really well done. It's an interesting scene that you have to actually look at to understand; not just glance at it. The design is well done. The trees are awesome. Oh and you have some pretty damn good photography skills too. Don't sell yourself short.... you're goooood.
  22. I too had this set as a kid... one of my favorites. Second only to the Black Seas Barracuda. You've done it great justice here; well played.
  23. I had my collection in a storage unit that was not climate controled. Was in there during the hotest parts of the summer (well over 100 degrees some days, lots of humidity) and we didn't move out of there until winter (several days in there below freezing). Now that I'm unpacked in my new house my kids and I have actually had a chance to play with our Legos. I have not noticed any negative impact of the storage. Stickers all seem fine, no plates or blocks warped, or anything really. They seem the same as the day I bought them. These truly are durable, quality, products!
