I still see a huge problem with reboot - they revealed the greatest mystery in old Bionicle. We know that these new sets are original Toa Mata/Nuva. But they shouldn't be in Matoran Universe, because we already know that it is a huge robot. This was a central point in the story and it would inevitably have to play some role in a reboot, it is just too huge to ignore. TLG would have to create a completely new location in order to just avoid any plot parts where this could be brought up. We know that Mata Nui studied alien planets, but Toa were only in MU and on Spherus Magna. Possible continuation will naturally be on Spherus Magna, this world is almost unexplored. In a reboot they can use either some alien planet, which then needs some good explanation, Matoran Universe, which is both explored (so new locations will be necessary) and already known to be a giant robot, or the last possibility I see is Spherus Magna, but this possibility is not favoring a reboot because they can simply make a distant continuation without making difficult explanations why they are here. Toa in general should normally be in MU, but MU is much less interesting place than it was before 2008 (to some degree less interesting), new locations inside MU are necessary, but it doesn't adress the point that MU is a giant robot, it will be kind of like reading a thriller and knowing identity of the murderer from list of characters. Toa look like their Mata forms, because TLG wants them to look like that - they will look nostalgic, this is the only reason there, any story explanation is secondary to this as was the case of Tahu Stars. TLG wants them to look like this, so some story explanation will be crafted why they look so. The point about small sets doesn't really make much sense to me, because in 2001 there were only Matoran from promo action in McDonald's and since then there were normally sold small sets in 2002/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 and Stars which were the only sets in 2010. I don't understand business, but they already named it Bionicle and main characters are Toa Mata/Nuva, which itself creates connection to the old Bionicle. These soft reboots could've been unsuccesful because they didn't have the mysterious spark that 2001-3 had, 2009 was close to it, but they cut it off as soon as it started and we didn't get any Bionicle dinosaurs as we deserved. From my understanding ,GregF said that picking the story up where it ended isn't a possibility. But he can be inclined to a reboot, that Q&A topic grows faster than I can read it. I hope this post makes sense, I am obviously biased, but I hope you can see my point.

Someone knows Twitch chat, I presume? Kappa So I contribute to the discussion: There is no reason for changing Toa to master. They can be Toa, but they can be called masters at the same time, maybe because those who call them masters have never heard the term Toa, or they don't know that Tahu and company are Toa. It would be disappointing to see that they completely dropped original names for species. Calling them Toa can be used in books and this kind of media, that most people won't bother to get their hands on, while they can be called masters in their set names, in movies (TV series), Lego magazine, etc. To add to this, most franchises have some jargon - Transformers, Star Gate, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings and many, many more. Kids can remember few weird words and as I stated earlier, master can be just a replacement for a lack of words in the story or promotional name.

Master sounds so silly. It has to be just a "description" that they control elements, not what they will be called.

I mean that they would have to create the whole world again from scratch, new islands, new villains, new plot engine, maybe even recreate what is Mata Nui himself. It would have to be drastically different from old Bionicle in order to ...eh, be different. Whether you like it, stuff will get confusing for most people with a (first) reboot, even more because it will nullify the story that was there for 15 years and that will stay on the internet even after the possible reboot happens. Like some said, you can almost ignore what happened in the past when you place the story far enough in the future. How is it important for Star Wars movies that there was a galactic sized conflict 3600 year before destruction of first Death star. It's pointless to say that 20000 years before battle of Yavin there was Infinite Empire that spanned across the whole galaxy. You just don't have to say everything that happened before, in order to tell a story. Books and comics are there for big franchises to tell tales about things that are irrelevant to the original story. So what would it matter that there were Makuta, a demigod species, when they are dead; that Nidhiki used to be a Toa, then was mutated, joined Dark Hunters and got absorbed by Teridax; that Vezon once claimed that he is Toa of Anarchy... Anyone who could find this if it was a continuation, could find it even if it was a reboot. It will still be on Bionicle wiki, maybe just tagged as ... whatever they would call the old story. And anyone who will find the page will read the first sentence on the page: Also "that happy little robot toyline" was always dark in a way and it should stay dark in this kind of media (a.k.a. books, online stories and podcasts). This is a serious story with some comedical parts, not something like Futurama.

I have one question: how would rebooting the series benefit TLG? They would have to create completely new plots. Also, dumping the 10 years of story would make a lot of old fans disappointed in the line and they wouldn't buy the sets in turn (let's say that it could be even something like 0,8% of profits, which is a lot even though it doesn't seem so). I've never seen Transformers (only these movies and from what I've read (not only) there, it pretty much doesn't count ), but it probably was confusing when they were rebooted for the first time, so Bionicle, which was running for ten years in one continuity, would have a hard time explaining that this Bionicle isn't the old Bionicle, it would get confusing for new fans trying to find information about already existing characters. Bionicle is known for it's (too) deep story, so Lego should want to capitalize on this and make it epic again, while trying their best to keep it simple enough on the surface. In my opinion TLGs best bet would be setting this story far in the future on basicly unexplored Spherus Magna, saying like in 2001 that: Matoran/Agori/defenders (or whatever will the citizens be) lived for ages in peace and then >plot< ..., ancient heroes, Toa Mata, were awoken and their journey to save the >citizens< began.

Guys, this can't be a complete reboot, they have to create a whole new story, otherwise, as GregF several times said in his topic on lego.com, any child can find the old bionicle on the internet and read the whole story. They can either make a completely new continuation with different plots, or they can set the story on Spherus Magna far in the future. The matoran universe itself is already explored enough to be "dangerous" for new fans. So I think that they will make this a continuation.

It was yellow and I don't think this is the case. Last special edition set we got was Bulk vs. Vapor back in 2010 and it was basicly new set, not existing one with different colors.

This is magenta color. Excellent job, as always. Great use of these Mixel joints, I'll have to get some, they seem to make building hands so much easier. The way you can blend CCBS, system and technic is, uh, magnificent.

Well it would be awesome if they would release few Turaga along with Matoran, calling them Turaga xxxxx and giving them some of these elder/sage elements could avoid some confusion, Matoran would be called just by their names. We should get some Turaga at least in some bigger sets if not as separate small sets. They should be somehow kept in the story. On another note I think more and more that Hero Factory will be ending soon. Today I grabbed Lego magazine from a shop. (These are different from the US ones. Basicly pictures of new Lego sets from current year with name, set number, price and some lore stuff here and there.) The summer HF sets had 1 page, winter ones too. So only 2 pages of Hero Factory, meanwhile for example Legend of Chima got 7 new pages (including 2 pages of comic and 1 page of CCBS action figures). I guess that there is indeed a space for new product line being created.

Imagine it this way: Matoran have a spark of energy inside them that can allow them to become a Toa if they are destined to do so. Toa are overcharged with their inner energy making them stronger and unlocking fully their powers over elements and mask powers. Turaga used this energy completely, making them unable to be Toa again, it requires them to fullfil part of their destiny when they needed the energy to do so, the transformation makes them basicly a husk without an important part of what Matoran and Toa are, but because they did what they were destined to, they can basicly only take the role of teachers, advisors, political leaders, as they gained experience from their time as Toa. Body of a Turaga had to be shrinked so it would sustain itself, but Turaga are still stronger than Matoran, because of the transformation to Toa which still left the body strenghtened compared to Matoran body. Just my view. Don't take it as an universal truth.

Well TLG could try to make profit from other things than only the toys. At least that they wouldn't lose money for creating the story seems possible to me.

Intentional Star Wars book reference? http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Darth_Bane:_Rule_of_Two Anyway, HF has no story, that's a fact now, it's only an episode on TV once a year with no connection to the previous ones. I can only say I won't cry if they won't produce it anymore.

While I find the gender ideology ...not a very smart thing... , limiting genders in Bionicle was one of the weird things, which don't really make much sense. Greg even answered to a question in the topic where he answers on lego.com, that there can be some exceptions like Orde (= male Toa for a female tribe) in other tribes too. I think this should be one of the things that they should change, romance could be another thing, because it makes some parts of the movies awkward when romance doesn't officially exist. There don't have to necessarily be female sets, just the option to build MOCs that could exist in canon.

Well, Mata Nui in Ignika removed all mutations and Toa Nuva are kinda mutated, but then EP is different from most of the MU as it's the original substance... Lets just say it would be nice

Well, a russian website, if you say that they had leaks that were true, then I guess we can believe them, though it is still rather early for such hard evidence. This probably means that we will be able to buy the sets from them. These names are clearly lost in the translation and they could be still unfinished, but we are right to expect the original Toa! The master thing probably means Toa and the defender could be something like... unfinished name. Bionicle always had original names.

This is getting slightly off topic, but oh well. Imagine if they would ever make a set with poseable spine. It would be the solution to any of these posability problems, but there would be problems, because the armor would have to be in several pieces and connected via some weird connection points... wow, that makes me want to try to create a MOC with some kind of spine...

Anyone who remembers Bionicle and sees the picture (or future official pictures) immediately sees Tahu, source: discussions about this pic. There's no reason why it shouldn't be Tahu as he is the awesome guy, the leader, the face of Bionicle.

I would love TV series (as long as it would get on the internet somehow) plus stories (or books) for hardcore fans not necessary to read for the main plot but, goddammit, it should be available everywhere EDIT: Congratulations Sir Leewan, you may stand up now.

I would probably choose a different Kanohi, or try to put something on this one to make it look, well, more exotic. And you could have added some accent color, black is a bit plain for my taste. Build-wise it is very impressive though.
