Sir, I think you're starting a revolution in minifig customization. I'm deeply impressed and look forward to trying this out. I tip my hat to you, thank you for sharing your experiences.

Great job, sir! The build is awesome, very different from the historical themes I'm used to seeing around. It looks totally Trojan.

Hello there, Sorry I'm a bit late for the reply, but I'm glad to have the opportunity to share this idea I had a few months ago. I built it at home with real bricks and it pleased me much. I don't have pictures of the thing in real bricks, but that's what the idea is like digitally: As far as size goes, I think it fits a hobbit pretty well and it is small for a regular size minifig (just like hobbit holes ought to be!): That's what the structure below it looks like: I'm not sure if the picture is clear enough, but down at the bottom those are two rows of tiles facing each other. In order to make it more stable in real bricks, I added another two 1x6 brown bricks between the arch and the brown tile facing down to make it go deeper down the ground. To make the upper arch stable, you would need somehow to link it to the ground, like in this image: (I made the stuff around it red just to make them out, not that I made it red in the real model) Something that may be a con is that the door has to go one brick down the ground. That's because it's higher than the 2 arches + 1x1 plate frame that lies in front of it. Therefore, if you wanted to make an interior and have the door be able to open, your floor would have to be 1 brick below the outside ground level (or 1 brick and a plate). That's the door without the frame: I have this project of building my own Bag End, but unfortunately due to lack of time all I have for now is just ideas For the windows I followed the same technique of the door, but using 1x4 arches (1 arch facing up + 1 arch facing down + 1 plate between them). Actually as I write this I'm not sure if I kept the plate between the arches in the front door in the real version, but the windows definitely look more round with it. I hope this helps. It has this con of having to sink down the ground, but I'm pretty satisfied with it. Cheers, Rafael

That's a pretty nice miniature you're using for reference. I'd use it too if I were to build Meduseld one day so thanks for posting.

Thank you very much for the great review! I was waiting for someone to review this so I could compare my impression of the set with theirs. I went to a LEGO store today to buy it but came back empty handed. I thought the price was too abusive and ended up not getting it. The set is indeed awesome, the round structure does look good and the minifigs are nice, as well as a few interesting parts like the green slopes for rocky textures. However, I still think it's not worth the money. This should cost U$40.00, not U$60.00... The only reason I actually wanted to buy it for was for Merry's minifig, but I guess I'll just get it separately somewhere. I also thought the box was way bigger than it could be. I think LEGO made it like that so the set would seem bigger, and therefore they'd be able to charge more for it, although it's only a small/medium build. Another thing I didn't like are the grey statues, those mini-minifigs. I think they look terrible with the short arms and the big head In my opinion this set is the less appealing in terms of money, it's incoherent to charge triple the price of Shelob's attack for it. By reading the comments I'm glad to notice I'm not the only one who's complaining about the price/piece ratio. It seems that it will sell less than the others and thus LEGO might realize they made a mistake with that price EDIT: Corrected Merry as the minifig instead of Pippin and a few text issues.

This is a really, really nice MOC! Great use of techniques for those textures on the wall and roof :)

That is absolutely fabulous! You should be hired as a designer by LEGO. Those look like legitimate Lego sets!

Looks pretty neat. I wonder how it would look like inside a sculptor's workshop. Great work! Wish there were more pics and close shots, though.

Jeez bud, you're a hell of an artist. It's very pleasant to see your work. Those are masterpieces.

7020 Army of Vikings with Heavy Artillery Wagon
rafsemedo replied to mikey's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Agreed in every word. I heard of the Viking theme after a 5 years Dark Age, and just the thought of such a great theme excited me a lot. But then when I got into LEGOs website to check the sets out I got quite disappointed. Yes, those minifigs were awesome, and some sets like the Fortress and the huge Ship had these outstanding designs. But what the hell were those machine guns and robot-like creatures doing among those warriors of antiquity? I wouldn't care about the addition of mythology based monsters or to the 100% accuracy of indumentary (I know historic viking helmets had no horns, but I do find them aesthetically nice on the minifigs), but those futuristic elementes really ought not to be there. This was such a waste of a good theme, and I dream with the day LEGO will rework it. It would be so pleasant to see these ancient myths or civilizations like the scandinavian, saxons or celts pictured properly by LEGO. Fortunatelly we can sometimes see these really cool MOCs about vikings. Thats a good review for a poor set. The only purpose I would buy it for would be to get those reddish brown plates, the small bars and printed tiles, as well as, of course, those minifigs, shields and weapons. They would be of great use to a MOC. -
