  1. Of course he was watching them. A little free Bow chica bow bow doesn't hurt anyone
  2. for the ropes and rope ladders I used a stencel made of LEGO with som DMC from a fabric store. I rane the lines across length wise then long ropes for the rungs. I used a quick dry glue then trimmed the string to size. I thought after I had done it that I should have took pics of the process.
  3. I don't think anyone is reading this anymore but if they are there are new pics up of my 1st stack and the crows nest up. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=240117 Scott out
  4. thank you for all the positive comments. I don't think you all know how much it means to me. I think I have found that the LEGO community has the nicest people. Scott out - What are we going to do tonight? The same thing we do every night. TRY TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!!!!
  5. Honesty I don't know why I did this. It really just popped into my head. I looked at my wife and said "I want to build the Titanic." She just looked at me and lowered her head. so then I started the research. I found all the specs on the ship and each lifeboat. The started in the middle of the midle section with one red plate on top of another. I posted the 1st pics on brickshelf when I had the hull of the middle section done and I think it got 5,000 hits in the 1st 3 days and e-mails from all over the world. That was the 1st clue that made me think I was onto something. I took no offence to what you or others have said. after this I want to do excisting architectural reconstruction in minfig scale.
  6. Well the ship breaks into 3 sections around 7'6". The front is the lightest and I think that's aroun 200 lbs and the other 2 sections I say are around 300 each. It took 6 people to carry the rear section. The rear was the hardest to build because of the massive overhang of the rear deck. I figure that there is a row every 4 studs of 1 x 16 blue brick 4 bricks high then 2 layers of plate over it. Again those are thanks to the Pick-A-Brick wall. I think I have about 1,000 of those in the ship. there is a row of 2 x black brick then the next 4 rows up are 1 x on the outside and random colors of 1 x on the inside. Some of the pics up may show that if not they are archived. The cross beams of non stud technic beams in a X form conectin one cross beam to another row of cross beams. This methed in my mind keeps the sides from bowing out plus any preasure pushing down is also stoped when they pull together by the weight. Scott out - A little birdie told me in a soft soft voice there may be a 1 x 3 tile in my future but who knows
  7. I'm a stay at home dad so I would build during my sons nap time then in the evenings when the wife got home, plus weekends. My wife totally supports the project even though the last week I have been doubting my self highly. Part of me thinks I went a bit overboard with this. I am trying to use this ship as a resume to possibly get a job as a 3D model builder for engineering firms I got the bricks at www.bricklink.com Scott out - I should do the after affect of the sinking. Have a bunch of blue plate with half minifigs all over the place.
  8. on a side note, I want to purchase the history channels sho called Titanc: Achillies Heal then play it on 2 TVs above my ship. Who knows Scott out - Rose, you will go on and live a great life, purchase many sets and build great MOCs. But Jack I don't understand Bionacle. You will rose, you will
  9. I use sheets to cover it and a handy can of air to spray the stuff off oops, forgot the 2nd question. I really want to sell it but I will see when I'm done. I know it will stay assembled for at least 2 more years. The sorting will be hell when I take it appart.
  10. Thank you for inviting me here I have spent around 6 months at about 6 hours a day. I got the specs off the internet so the ship was 882 feet long and about 98 feet wide so I made it 882 studs by 98 studs so it's minifig scale. I have the specs for each lifeboat but as you can tell I'm not there yet. Finances are a bit tite so I have to slow my production. I also have a lot of books and info on it. I think I know way more about the ship then I ever wanted too. Yes that is me in the picture. The docs say I have a bit of a weight problam. It seems to accumulate around my stomach. Actually I have stomach implants so I have to tell the women that I'm up here and get them to stop looking at my belly. heh I agree with sinner in that the sides are very plain. I think that's the beauty of the ship, it was a plain looking ship. but If you look at the rear of the ship. That part I am very proud of. It took me 20 to 30 hours just to do that. Oh yes, a side note. The portholes have nothing behind them cause I am going to put 4 LED lanterns in the ship so the light blairs out the portholes. I think that will take away from the dullness of the slab. I also feel that when I get to the finishing of it the detail will shine out and counter the dullness of the lower part of the ship.
  11. How goes it? I'm the builder of the Titanic. Thank you so much for your comments, they mean a lot to me, good or bad. Here are the answers to your questions the best that I can do. I don't know what possesed me to build such a huge project. sometimes as of late I feel I'm wasting my time building this but I press on. I think I've passed the point of no return a few months ago in the building. The finances into this were partially brought to me by a lady who hit my stopped car going 70 mph. I'm a stay at home dad with a lot of time on my hands and really unemployable but that is a huge story in itself. I have a studio that this ship fits into with just a few inches on each end so to work on either side I have to go under it. The pictures that Are on the site haven't been updated for a while and for this I appologize. I'm about 80% done with the ship and just showed it last week. For the longest time this ship just looked plain to me but the detail I'm putting in now is making it take shape. I have 17,000+ reddish brown 1 x 4 tile in it so far so I'm happy there is a LEGO store with a Pick-a-Brick wall 10 minutes from me. Roughly 200,000 pieces so for into it. I know there are some mistakes but I am taking some artistic freedom with it. Here are some pics that are updated as of last week. I just posted them so it may take a bit before they are viewable. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=240117 I live in Washington state and the ship was shown at the NW brick con last week. I made some minitures of this ship and stuck them in other displays seeing that things started to appear on my ship. I can answer more questions and again I thank you for you intrest, it means the world to me
