Finally got my 110 working to my satisfaction. I also agree with Blackbird, it works fin without the body. Combination of weight of the body and the motor cables being a little short and therefore pushing down on the top of the gearbox. One thing I would like to try is fitting dual suspesion on the rear as when I have the 110 sitting on the shelf on display it has a litlle squat in the back end. I know dual shocks are not true to the design but I feel it might provide a more asthetically pleasing display. I have to admit I reverted to the silicon spray to reduce friction. It worked a dream. All functions work as advertised without the body fitted. As soon as I fit the body it is not so happy. I never expected a perfect working model as something of this complexity is not going to work straight out of the box as it were. I can highly recomend this to anyone who is up for a challenge. To me this is what Technic is all about. Sheepo, congratulations on a great model and it is in my mind the model in which others will be compared. Well done. Oh I learnt the hard way about using the old style 16t gears. Take my word for it, don't. It was so funny when it let go as it ejected one of the 16t gears near the radiator fan straight out the bonnet. Jamie

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
PlaneCrazy replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Just thought I would put a post out to those in Australia re the Big W and Target toy sales. My daughter was very keen on getting the Lego Friends Summer riding camp (set:3185) for Christmas this year. So I thoought I would check out the toy sales as this set is normally around $120 AUD and was marked at $94 on sale at Big W. Unfortunatly it was sold out within several heart beats. I was about to head home when I thought to check out Myer. They had about 6 of them on the shelf for $119 AUD. I took one up to the counter and asked if they would price match. After a number of phone calls I walked out of the shop with the presi my daughter is after and getting for the sale price being offered by the shops that were sold out. Happy all round. So if you find the Lego set you are after is not available, check out Myer. Happy building, Jamie -
Not sure if this is the right place for this as I normally only deal with the Technic forum. Just thought I would put a post out to those in Australia re the Big W and Target toy sales. Studless conversions
PlaneCrazy replied to PlaneCrazy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the links. I would have to tend to agree that the original does still look the best. Someone did a conversion of the Air Tech Claw Rig and that came out very well. I was just curious about the 8880. I have to say, still one of my favs. Jamie -
Just picked up a 8461 Williams F1 racer for a price I am happy with given condition (no stickers, no box). Unfortunatly the owner thought they were doing a good thing and cleaned the tatty stickers off (oh well). Just wondering if anyone knows of a good source for either original or after market decals for this set. I am just not prepared to pay near on $100+ USD for a decal sheet. Not overly fussed if I have them or not, but it would be nice for completeness. Any help would be appreciated. Jamie

Never Ending Struggle?
PlaneCrazy replied to Porty's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Perfection is objective. To me I compare all Lego sets against 8880 and 8480. For me I consider those two sets as the 'perfect' compromise of technical qualities vs playability vs appearance vs construction difficulty. But that is just me. The people that collect Model Team sets strive for more accuracy in appearance over function so perfection for them is different (including similar MOC style building). I guess that is why I like collecting Technic Lego, everyone that looks at my collection is able to see somthing different and say 'That is my favorite because........; -
The Air Tech Claw Rig is finaly togeather and I am very happy with it. I have a little tinkering to do. It seems that either over time the hose has shrunk a little or they were cut short; but all the hoses were shorter than they should be. Down side is when the crane slews, it binds up a bit. I followed the advice given re changing the size of the pulley to drive the pump. replacing the Large pulley 3736 specified with Technic wedge belt wheel 4185 gave a bit more life to the response of the various functions. Had to change the belt size to a smaller one as well. What can I say, if you a looking for one of those classic Technic sets, this would have to be on the list of to builds. Thanks to all those that recommended this one as I am very happy.

Most of the sets I own are of the studded beam era. I seem to prefer the build experience of these older sets as they have a tendency not to work straight away after construction. A little tinkering here, an adjustment there. Even the instructions are more of a challenge, what was done in about 16 pages previously (including the B-model) now has books for the primary model. Not saying I don't enjoy the current generation of building. I think conceptualy it is harder to understand as you sort of build from the inside out, rather than bottom up. It is just in days gone by not having it all spelled out for you was half the fun. I will keep the pully config in mind when I build it, Thanks. Jamie

I have been hanging out for some more info on this one as I had not been overly impressed with the line up provide this year. I am glad to say this one will be on my list. The fact that the rotor head works as a real helicopter rotor head would is fantastic. Even the B-model looks interesting. As my user name 'PlaneCrazy' would suggest, I am an aircraft nut and I could not bring myself to buy the red aeroplane that was on offer first half of the year as it was so ugly, in particular the B model. But I am pleased to say I would gladly purchase the 9396 helicopter (based on accounts so far). Does anyone know when 9396 will be released in Australia? Jamie

Well spotted Its not in the greatest condition. The decorated bricks are very, very faded. I will just say it has been played with alot when I was young. Next to it is 6780 XT Starship (light and sound) Not fond of the Mars Mission sets. These were just in the unsorted lots I obtained. While ordering bits to build up some Technic sets, I only needed a few bits to complete them. Once I need more room for Technic, these will come down. Jamie

I don't, I have to get a rag out every now and again, or gives me an excuse to build alternative models. Jamie Its actually not Technic. It is 744 - Universal set. I normally have it built as the windmill (quite large). Was actually given to me when I was a young child (about the year 1988), lots of memories with this one. Jamie The angler fish is a bit of a giggle, it has glow in the dark teeth. My daughter loves the shark, we went to an aquarium to see some sharks and she loved them, so I had to build the lego shark when I came across it. Jamie

I have been collecting for a fairly long time now. Not all Technic, but that is mostly what I am into these days. The non Technic sets are more for my daughter to play with. Saves the others from being attacked if I have some sacrificial sets as it were. I guess it is all about getting hold of those sets I looked at in the shops as a child and could not afford them. Now I can, it is more of a case of trying to find them. Not all the sets are genuine, just the idea of trying to pay NIB price . I was able to get hold of several unsorted lots of Lego and from that put togeather the various sets hidden in the piles of bits. I have a tendency to prefer the older studded construction as it is what I was brought up on you could say. Born in 1977, the year Technic appeared, also makes me lean towards that style. I do like some of the studless models, but it has to be something special. Friends and family also perodically get me various models as well. They know me well. I do like the Mog, and as can see I had to obtain the parts for the B-model seperatly so I could keep the entire set as one. Makes it a bit problamatic to display considering it becomes so big with the plough on the front. I would have to say my pride and joy of the collection would mave to be hard to split between 8880 - Super Car and 8480 - Space Shuttle (both genuine sets). As to what I am missing, well there is a fair bit to go, my goal is to own most of the studded sets, not overly interested in the universal sets. I do own several though. The collection is very lacking around the late 1980s and 1990s. I am hoping to get the Air Tech Claw rig soon. Anyway just thought I would post some images of my collection, I do love seeing the fantastic MoCs others come up with, but it is also nice to see some of the old. Jamie

8288 Crawler Crane
PlaneCrazy replied to PlaneCrazy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
DLuders, I should have indicated that I only used the alternative string for the winch lines. The string with the studs are actually genuine items. I did not want to use an alternative for the 6 thread with studs (2 each of size 41, 61 and 65). Appologies for any confusion. Jamie
