PlaneCrazy started following Sheepo's Land Rover 110 review

Finally got my 110 working to my satisfaction. I also agree with Blackbird, it works fin without the body. Combination of weight of the body and the motor cables being a little short and therefore pushing down on the top of the gearbox. One thing I would like to try is fitting dual suspesion on the rear as when I have the 110 sitting on the shelf on display it has a litlle squat in the back end. I know dual shocks are not true to the design but I feel it might provide a more asthetically pleasing display. I have to admit I reverted to the silicon spray to reduce friction. It worked a dream. All functions work as advertised without the body fitted. As soon as I fit the body it is not so happy. I never expected a perfect working model as something of this complexity is not going to work straight out of the box as it were. I can highly recomend this to anyone who is up for a challenge. To me this is what Technic is all about. Sheepo, congratulations on a great model and it is in my mind the model in which others will be compared. Well done. Oh I learnt the hard way about using the old style 16t gears. Take my word for it, don't. It was so funny when it let go as it ejected one of the 16t gears near the radiator fan straight out the bonnet. Jamie

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
PlaneCrazy replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Just thought I would put a post out to those in Australia re the Big W and Target toy sales. My daughter was very keen on getting the Lego Friends Summer riding camp (set:3185) for Christmas this year. So I thoought I would check out the toy sales as this set is normally around $120 AUD and was marked at $94 on sale at Big W. Unfortunatly it was sold out within several heart beats. I was about to head home when I thought to check out Myer. They had about 6 of them on the shelf for $119 AUD. I took one up to the counter and asked if they would price match. After a number of phone calls I walked out of the shop with the presi my daughter is after and getting for the sale price being offered by the shops that were sold out. Happy all round. So if you find the Lego set you are after is not available, check out Myer. Happy building, Jamie -
Not sure if this is the right place for this as I normally only deal with the Technic forum. Just thought I would put a post out to those in Australia re the Big W and Target toy sales. Studless conversions
PlaneCrazy replied to PlaneCrazy's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the links. I would have to tend to agree that the original does still look the best. Someone did a conversion of the Air Tech Claw Rig and that came out very well. I was just curious about the 8880. I have to say, still one of my favs. Jamie -
Just picked up a 8461 Williams F1 racer for a price I am happy with given condition (no stickers, no box). Unfortunatly the owner thought they were doing a good thing and cleaned the tatty stickers off (oh well). Just wondering if anyone knows of a good source for either original or after market decals for this set. I am just not prepared to pay near on $100+ USD for a decal sheet. Not overly fussed if I have them or not, but it would be nice for completeness. Any help would be appreciated. Jamie

Never Ending Struggle?
PlaneCrazy replied to Porty's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Perfection is objective. To me I compare all Lego sets against 8880 and 8480. For me I consider those two sets as the 'perfect' compromise of technical qualities vs playability vs appearance vs construction difficulty. But that is just me. The people that collect Model Team sets strive for more accuracy in appearance over function so perfection for them is different (including similar MOC style building). I guess that is why I like collecting Technic Lego, everyone that looks at my collection is able to see somthing different and say 'That is my favorite because........;
