What do you guys think? Will TLG release a complete F1 set for all 11 F1 teams? Including the upcoming 42240 coming out in the second half of the year, we already have five models in total: 42171, 42206, 42207, 42228 and 42240. That leaves six more sets yet to be released. Even if we exclude Sauber and feature Audi instead, plus the newly added Cadillac, there are still six models left unreleased. It will likely take 2–3 years to finish the entire lineup, meaning we’ll probably get another two F1 sets next year. If so, they will continue to take up two release slots as usual. On top of that, 77252 and 77258 may also be developed into official LEGO Technic versions in the future.

Have you seen the pictures of set 60512?

If that’s the case, the fundamental reason for the delayed release of 42146 was probably not the lead time for new part molds. It was originally scheduled for 2022, but got pushed back to avoid a direct clash with 42143. This implies that current sales of Technic flagship sets are likely underperforming. Nowadays, Technic flagships have become more of a symbolic release than anything else. We used to get one every single year, yet now it’s only once every two years. TLG staggers their launches on purpose to prevent internal competition with the 1:8 supercar released in the same year. The fact that even flagship lineups are being scaled back clearly shows that TLG is gradually abandoning hardcore Technic enthusiasts who prefer more construction and industrial machinery sets. Engineering flagships are undeniably more difficult to design than 1:8 supercars, yet they sell far worse. It’s only logical that TLG no longer wants to put in huge effort for poor returns. That’s why 2018 was such a great year — Technic flagship and 1:8 supercar were released side by side. It also marked the end of the PF era.

Same here. I first fell in love with LEGO Technic for its unique open-frame, skeletal aesthetic. You could use flexible axles and hoses to shape sleek outlines and create stylized, abstract recreations. The models also came in large sizes, plus I’m a big fan of all the different tires and wheel options. That’s why I’ve always believed Technic is truly a theme designed for adult LEGO fans. But now, the lineup is flooded with licensed 1:15 scale small car sets. They only have minor differences in looks, and they offer almost no meaningful mechanical functions besides basic engine piston linkage. Do long-time fans have to wait an entire year just for one single decent set? Take set 42242 this year for instance — it finally has that classic old-school Technic vibe, and we’re not even sure if it was just a last-minute filler release. This is really draining the passion of veteran fans. Now as this year’s new sets keep rolling out, I just give them a casual, indifferent comment and move on, with zero urge to buy any of them. Next year will be a turning point that shows TLG’s real attitude toward the Technic theme. If they still flood the market with endless car sets, I don’t think the 51st and 52nd anniversaries will have anything worth looking forward to. The 50th anniversary was already a meaningful milestone, yet they didn’t release anything stunning enough to thrill longtime fans. If this trend keeps up, it’s definitely time for me to switch to another LEGO theme.

Is there no official set for the number 60507?
-
There are three possible scenarios. First, these set numbers are simply skipped, meaning they are blank entries and do not exist at all. Second, these sets do exist but have not been leaked yet. Third, they are next year’s new releases, whose product numbers are mixed in with current-year listings, just like the case of 42127.
