Nice review of a reasonable set from this era...Just some further information that may be of interest... Australia (1985) $3.25 Minor disagreement here...I'd say the set was a step up from an "impulse" set. From the same catalogue as the price for this set was retrieved, the following town sets were also available (and were also available when set first appeared, but no prices in earlier catalogues that I can easily access) at $2.25: 6605 6606 6607 6609 This would point to the set being closer to one of the following in equivalent price/prestige (i.e. not an impulse, but rather an "entry level" set): 7235 7241 7736 I hope this information is of use.

maybe it's not "official" star wars, but I had checked, and in the rules thread, there was mention that this was allowed (at least to my reading): http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?...&pid=587352 And reply following. Also, I believe/hope that the set description, and motivation for creating the set explain how these figures fit in. After all, If there's a species like the Gungans in the Star wars universe, it can't be that much of a stretch of the imagination to see a species resembling fabuland figures, is it?

Item#: ???? Age: 5+ Pieces: 53 and four mini-figures. Help stop the spread of the Gungan menace. Following the rise of the Gungan's alongside Princess Amidala, the members of the Fabuland system have had enough. Join with the members of the Fabuland system to "Cry Havoc", and let slip the dogs of war! Set includes: 4 Fabuland troopers Jeep and mortar Fire hydrant Other pictures: Figures: Jeep: Mortar and Comms troops: Heavy MG Reason behind creating "set" This set was brought about as a result of a number of things, the main one was that there just aren't enough Fabuland competitions around. When planning this, I considered how Fabuland would actually figure in a star-wars universe, and considered that if a species like the Gungans can exist in this universe, there is no reason that a planet couldn't have a life-form similar in shape/stature to Fabuland figures (Hence my query in the rules thread). In addition, I felt that a slightly (completely) off-topic and potentially humorous (both the idea of militant fabuland figures, and also the fire hydrant for cover...and other uses ) entry would be a change from the often serious looking designs. In making this, I came across 2 main challenges (after confirmation that we could create our own Star-Wars universe race), namely how to design a suitable Star-Wars vehicle that was still recognizably Fabuland (Solved through the use of the smallest Fabuland vehicle chassis (approx 6x8 plate)), and what set to build...I came up with about 15 potential set names that could have conceivably had an entry built, and this was the one I ended up selecting. (For those who want to know, another potential one was "Cows with guns") Finally, in order to try and keep this to the same potential "price range" as other battle-packs, I tried to stick to the lowest possible number of parts, as Fabuland figs and the vehicle chassis would make up a large part of any final set price. And even if I don't win anything, I'll be happy if this entry brings a smile to at least one person.
-
I realise this is going to sound like a stupid question, but here goes: Given that battle packs have to be star-wars related (whether from our own imagination, or from George Lucas's), do the figures have to come from a "known" galaxy/system, or can they be designed around some system/race/droid design imagined by the battle-pack designer provided the S@H style description explains how they fit in?

Thank you for the enquiry. There will certainly be LEGO for sale. If you want to sell, I believe there should be a link on the site to book a table for sales. If not, I'll get someone to put one in there. From memory, last year a sales table (I can't remember the size) was $Aus 5 - $Aus 10...And you can have as many as you want (provided of course that you are registered for both days). There should also be an auction of some sort (Last year we got 1 each of the Indiana Jones "classic" sets to auction: about 3 months before they were in retail stores) and probably a raffle.

This sounds interesting...I could certainly use some help with my photos, and I do have a reasonable selection of sets to choose from for reviewing. (Of course, I'm guessing reviews of single "part" sets like the HO vehicles aren't what you have in mind?) -
Count me in... The odds of winning this competition are statistically insignificant...I like those odds.
-
Count me in too...I doubt I'll win, but at the entry price it's worth a shot.
-
Seeing the pictures in this review certainly reinforce my original thoughts on this set: Here's an oil-rig mod waiting to happen...

For those interested in Indiana Jones and who have a Nintendo DS, I spotted the following in an Australian "department store" catalogue today. The packaging of the 2 "sets" ("Legends kit" and "Tri-Fold Wallet") seems to imply they are LEGO, or at least LEGO approved. The sale starts here on Thursday, but there is no reason to think they are Australian only items. Apologies if this has been posted previously.

These youngsters who don't bother to check facts... Classic space was released in 1979 with red and white figs. (I ignore the Samsonite LEGO "clone" as they were US only ) In 1982/1983 Yellow classic space minifigs arrived. (3-4 years after original sets released.) Then around 1984/1985 the Blue and Black minifigs arrived. Black figures appeared in relatively few sets, while yellow and blue figures tried to make up for their late arrival by being in a large number of sets. I hope this clears up your confusion on this point.

Hi Everyone! Brickvention is now just under two weeks away. The committee are very excited as they can finally see all of their hard work coming together. For those new to the concept, it's a gathering of Lego Fans from all around Australia (and overseas) and it will be held on the Australia Day long weekend (25-27th January) in Melbourne, Australia. The website has had a significant update over the weekend and it is hoped that all the information you seek is now available to you. Please let us know if there is something missing! Check out the Brickvention 2008 section at http://www.brickventures.com/index.php/Bri...ntion-2008.html Some things to consider: **If you haven't yet signed up, then you should try and do it *before* the event. It makes it a lot easier for the organisers as we get a true indication of the number of people attending. It also means that you'll have a proper membership badge rather than one that is made on the day. ** If you're planning on attending and are keen to display your MOCs then contact the organisers to arrange an allocation of table space. This needs to be finalised by 24th January (the Thursday before the event). Email the committee using the Contact Us link on the website. It is unlikely that there will be space available "just in case". Once you have arranged your allocation of space, make sure you print off some "place cards" for your MOCs. ** Likewise, if you are planning on selling at Brickvention, contact the committee to ensure a table is allocated for you. A couple of sellers have already registered and it looks like they'll be digging out some great stuff for you to buy. ** There will be two BrikWars games running on the Saturday. Check the website for the tech levels and additional information. There will also be two demo games running on the Sunday. ** The Build-in-the-bag and the Timed Build competitions will run again this year. In addition there will be the mysterious Team Duck competition. Teams will be formed on the day for Team Duck. Dirty Brickster will occur at the Crown Complex Food Court from about 6.30pm on the Saturday. A (wrapped) set to the value of $15-$10 is required to participate. Check out the website for details of these events. ** Due to the popularity of the raffle last time, the committee have decided to make it a permanent feature and have already sourced some excellent sets. ** Sunday is the Public Open Day. If you can't make it for the whole weekend, you might like to pop by and just have a look at the creative work of those attending. Details of opening times are on the website. Feel free to ask any questions either directly to the organisers or on this forum. This message will be cross-posted to a number of forums/lists/groups. If it doesn't appear within 24 hours on a Lego related group that you belong to, then make sure you copy and paste it yourself! We should all be involved in the promotion of the Lego Community! They may be in the online catalogue, but they certainly are not in the 2008 Jan-July Aus catalogue...No sign of them in there at all.

Just a reminder that registration is open for Brickvention 2008. (or for those who were unaware, now you know :-) ) Information about the event can be found at: http://www.brickventures.com/index.php/Bri...ntion-2008.html Registration form can be found at: http://www.brickventures.com/index.php/Bri...gistration.html Important information about Brickvention: Date: Saturday Jan. 26 and Sunday 27 Jan. 2008 (Saturday is only open to pre-registered attendees. Sunday is open to the Public) Location: Level 12, 300 Flinders St. Melbourne, Victoria, Australia (right in the CBD, across the road from Flinders St. train station.) And for the tennis fans...The Australian Open is on at the same time, so feel free to use that as an excuse to head on down here for Brickvention :D

They did take a few days to show up in Melbourne city store compared to the Northland one here in Melbourne, but you shouldn't have to wait too much longer down there... As to their arrival in Europe, if you look carefully at the boxes you will note that they are the US version rather than an international version (for example, piece count on front of box, US LEGO club advertising on bottom of box), so there are no guarantees when Europe will get these sets...just keep an eye on your local catalogues and store shelves.

Not bad...but it misses the longest running train type that LEGO produced... SAVE THE PUSH TRAINS :-) Close, but not quite...4.5V started around 1966 (set 112 for example) while 12V was 1969 (set 720) With the grey track, both were released at the same time as it was mainly a track colour change more than a new theme...Although the sets were also designed for minifigs as well.

In answer to your question, the Kingdom knight on the right is standing behind a short barricade made of 2 walls with a mounted catapult in the middle. Each wall has 3 spears sticking out the front...So not only a good set for figs, but also for weapons. I'll try and re-scan tomorrow night and upload a better image, unless someone beats me to it.

The catalogue (2008 Aus/NZ) first half year arrived with the LEGO club (previously LEGO world club) magazine for December. This magazine is an Aus/NZ specific magazine which comes out every 3 months, as opposed to some other LEGO club magazines in other countries which are every 2 months. And Yes, this is a consumer catalogue and NOT a retailer catalogue as was assumed regarding the images of the "Dwarfs mining" and "bad guy vehicle" that I posted earlier this year...which were in the consumer 2007 (Aus/NZ) 2nd half year catalogue that arrived with june edition of the magazine.
-
Just those 2 new, but also 7009 and 7090-7093. (note: NO 7094 castle) And thanks for asking. I just noticed they stuffed up the references to sets 7009 and 7090 :-) see: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/bwhytcro/2008/page.jpg
-
Yep, that's me... As noted above, according to the "cover sheet" with the magazine, MYER should have the Dwarf's mining set in Australia from December (meaning now or soonish).
-
Yep, that was me. The strange thing about all this is that it was me who posted about the "dwarfs mining" earlier this year. One of the reasons for signing up here was to try to clarify that the pictures of it and the "bad guy vehicle" were not from retailers catalogues as had been suggested...However, I decided in the end that it wasn't worth the effort. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to make it 3 in a row with new castle set info with the mid year catalogue :-)
-
Thanks for all the welcomes...I signed up a little while ago after having visited the site for some time...just didn't have a pressing need to post. As far as the green star...Aus Selected retailers only. (and red star being same for NZ) BTW, MYER will have dwarfs mining this month...otherwise March next year for Aus. ALSO, these were the only 2 new castle sets listed for next year :-( Nothing much in magazine, although the cover sheet does have a discount for Brickvention on public day. <shameless plug> Of course, everyone will be registering for the weekend, won't they: http://www.brickventures.com/index.php/Bri...ntion-2008.html </shameless plug>
