I grew up with Legos and TMNT. These made my childhood. And the most unexpected thing in my life is, the combination of these. I'll say, "Do Want" on this collection. Eventhough the new series does not appeal to me that much, but the Lego turtles (and the rat-sensei) amazed me a lot.

Ja, that's directly from the keyboard, but how about if I have to physically write them on a paper? Uh, I mean, write by hand? The letter "ø" is simple, just draw an "o" and a slash on it. The letter "å" too, write "a" and draw a circle on top of it. But, I'm a bit perplexed about "Æ", should I just write "A" and "E" as close as possible?

I like Scandinavian countries too. One day I love to visit there. By the way, how do the Danes or Norwegians write "ae" vowels? I have a bunch of Learn Danish materials but I ended up writing like "ae" instead of the combined version of that vowel.

Lego City - Mixing the Past and Present?
The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks for the suggestion. Luckily I do not have those "closed back" modular buildings as I do not have much cash to buy all of these. I will add some newer Lego sets like the "recycling center" and the "dirt bike transporter" in the city. :) -
I like the little Dutch town there. Looks real and feels real. By the way I have seen a Stadthuys in Malacca. I think it is pronounced "Stahdt-house" if I'm not mistaken. It's a red building and I didn't remember much because I went there when I was a kid.

Lego City - Mixing the Past and Present?
The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in LEGO Town
Due to the lack of extra bricks, I can't modify much of the Legos provided. However, without the modification, the 80s set looks... vintage. There's that kind of feel that I won't get on the new 2011/12 sets I have. Example like the Police Bikes in the 90s - it definitely look like a modified Vespa. The new ones look nice too - a much realistic feel on it. Needless to say I'm itching to add mini "LCD screens" on the old police station instead of the casual "telephone" and stuff. I will get some bricks on that too. -
Hello there, As I've gotten an entire Lego City from my relative, I'm planning to mix it with some of my newer Lego sets. However, I felt that there's a proportion problem in some of the vehicles. The newer vehicles are much bigger than the ones in the 80s. The example would be the Police Helicopter in 2010 - I can't put it in the 1987's Police Station helipad because the thing is so much bigger than the helipad itself. If you have city sets in the 80s, what would you do with the modern sets? "Seperate" them or just place them together? In my case, I place all of them together. :)

Hello Lego Experts, I just recently acquired a set of a Lego city which is bought circa 1986-1992, and one in 1996 from my relative. There are a total of around 8 buildings and many other assortments of vehicles and minifigures and all of them are intact. The only thing is the road plates which have some "melted" skid-marks due to these vehicles on the roads which have stationary for almost 15-20 years. I think it is a permenant damage already, but could I use a bit of a sandpaper to flatten these melt-marks? Plus, there are yellowing on the white Lego sets like the fishing boat, which I can't seem to get rid of even with wiping with damp cloth. I planned to use chemicals on it but I just skipped that idea. Any great opinions on refurbishing old Lego sets?

Hey there, I like the 2011 edition of Lego police, the ones with the black or blue uniform sets instead of the new "Forest Rangers". Recently I've seen a small pack of the Lego 4636 "Police Building Set". Do you think it is worth a buy? The vehicles are a bit... simple but I will have some spare bricks for another Lego building. :) Thanks for opinions.
-
Hey there, I've seen one of those packs with limited bricks sold in a nearby toy store. You think it's a good complement to the Lego Police sets I've have it here? Mine's the 2011 sets, and they are of a black/blue uniform instead of the newer "forest rangers".

The "Dirt Bike Transporter" is reminiscent of a certain Lego Town product (Lego 6644) back in the 90s, but the new ones have been remade to include realistic-looking dirt bikes, a bigger car and two figures. The "Camper Van" looks identical to the Lego 2010/2011 set, but it is much smaller. :D

I like the 2011 City Advent Calendar - it has the police patrol car (sorry, I do not want to wait until December to see all that!!) which is reminiscent to the 1992's Lego System's police car. Don't remember the code number, but that good ol' little car was used to be given away free when a can of Dumex milk powder is purchased. The props are fantastic. I must get it! Too bad it isn't in SE Asia yet.

What amazes me in Lego stuff are the equipments, I should admit. First one is the megaphone, and the frying pan. I even like the mugs and the wine cups in some Lego city buildngs/models. Do you have any fascinations with the miniature equipments? Without them, Lego isn't complete! :)

Microcontrollers, automation and lightings
The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I have books dealing with processing infrared signals in microcontrollers. Technically, I can use either Arduino, or other microcontrollers. I may try to include SMD LEDs inside the Legos if possible, but I must be very careful and patient since these are very small stuff. :) -
Microcontrollers, automation and lightings
The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I do have a plethora of microcontroller programmers on my desk - so I do not need an Arduino. I mainly program my microcontroller using assembly or C and therefore, these are often custom made. I have an Arduino on my desk but it's for the experimenting the USB hosts for the Android phone connectivity (another story there). I tried drilling a cheap knockoff Lego brick and inserted an LED through it this afternoon - it fits OK, but I had to put my shirt around on my face to prevent the dust from getting into my nose. I will use a real one soon if I have some more spares. :) -
Hey ladies and gentlemen, I've briefly searched the forums for combining microcontroller based systems with Legos, but not much results are there. But some of them had placed lightings in their sets which are really good and fun. As an engineering graduate, with some electronics and microcontroller knowledge, I would have connected a PIC/AVR into hmm, for example, Lego house, with LEDs and bulbs around. Maybe lights will turn on at night, and shuts off in the morning. I can handle those programming okay, but plugging the LEDs and the bulbs into the bricks is something new for me. I would use the 9V boxes from the vintage Lego sets (I once had a airport fire-engine with such functions) but it went missing and getting those from Bricklink is expensive. Do you use drills to make way for the LEDs in that ABS plastic bricks, or you have any magnificient ideas? I would like to hear the opinions. :)

The Dark Ages are over! Martys back in Lego Town
The_YongGrand replied to martyboy70's topic in LEGO Town
You have a lucky kid! I hope I have such Lego collections! Your kid is going to be really amazed by these collections! :) -
Ever since I started collecting Legos in 2009, I do not have an urge to play them, like when I was much younger. I got the new Lego City Prisoner Transport, all I did was a short roleplay and then put it in a decorative form. I do not play it intensively like when I was six anymore. But on many times when I get up or got back from work I will look and admire the Lego sets and also maybe modify the arrangements and the minifigures around it. For the adults: Do you play them? Or just make the Legos and the minifigures with different poses for writing comics? Or it is just for admiration purposes only?

Do you 'rent/loan' your Legos to someone else?
The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Lol, but the boxes in main Lego sets suggest 5-12 yrs old! -
I had that Idea Book once but I don't know where I placed it. Anyway, it's a pretty good reconstruction! I like the fine details at home! :) Also, the fireplace can be modified - I might put in a small red LED, and a small microcontroller to simulate the flickering effect. Just my opinion.

I have some of the Pirates, some of the Castles and some of the City sets. Most of the Pirates and Castles set were destroyed. One of my frustrations. Also, for City sets, I do not have a tiled road sets yet. Also, I do not have any of the ambulances or staff doctors. All I have now are Police and Fire brigade sets. Might get those one by one. Not gonna be easy. :)

Do you 'rent/loan' your Legos to someone else?
The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yeah. I have close friends who are trustable, and playing with them is a joy. I wish I could call them up again, despite being young adults. :) I was speaking to my close friend about his toys - he shelved them in a wooden shelf with glass doors. He was very much a 'no' person when comes to lending his stuff (Gundam and some collectibles) to younger relatives. He even said, "If the glass breaks, you know that you shouldn't touch it". -

The_YongGrand replied to The_YongGrand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I see. I do not have much "come-over-and-play" friends, only some of my closest school friend, who actually were very careful about the Lego sets when we played together. That is when we actually played them together. They did not attempt to loan or something else in this process. Unfortunately my other relatives weren't actually understanding. Most of the time, sharing them would be a pain, as they were too young to play those stuff. Maybe Duplos served them better. -
Hello there, I made a mistake when me and my brother were younger - loaning the Legos to someone else. Once back in the early 90s, my brother got a really cool Lego spaceship for his birthday (or so it seemed, I don't remember). Then a few months later he lend it to some dude younger than him a few doors away from us. Result: only 1/4 of the spaceship left. My brother was ultimately annoyed by that kind and he regretted lending it to someone else. For me, I lend some of the cars to my aunt's toddler son (also my cousin) because my mother pressured to share the toys with others, and the result was the same: it was wrecked. Needless to say, a toddler doesn't know how to even play this and I would have a trouble if he choked on that little piece! Years later, another cousin who was younger, borrowed another one of my brother's fire-engines. The result wasn't any better. Not one of my cousins ever took care of these! Up until now, my cousins were all grown up, but most of them were spoiled and problematic. They either flunked too much in school, or slacked off in their colleges. Please note that I did not have a grudge on them - they were spoiled already. I still treat them neutrally. When they were at my home back then (they were only less than 9 yrs), they were lacking of dicipline and restraint. They touched the things at my home where it shouldn't be touched, even the refrigerator wasn't spared. Cannot touch my things? They would lie down on the floor, hitting the floor and kicking the air and cried their lungs out. I could not imagine my punishment if I touched other people's stuff at home. My parents would ground me after a lecture, or worse, a hard smack on the bottom. Currently, parents in my place were cutting their kids too much slack. Oh dear. Nowadays, my parents told me to keep those things carefully. I would still share my Lego sets with my brother (he's now 28) and I trusted him. But, with the other young kids, uh, I'll think about that. How do you cope with someone else 'intruding' with your most precious Lego sets? P.S: I knew a guy who got pissed at his cousin because he destroyed his expensive Lego set. It's not just me.
