  1. Over the past 9 hours, I've made a considerable dent in my to do list. To be perfectly honest, I think this might just be my finished product. Let me show you some changes along with some new treats. Here's a 360 view of the restaurant in its new environment. Added some wall hangings. One under the stairs (not pictured), the other behind male customer, then the other behind the female customer. Apparently the place likes maps and exploration.... Lego needs to release more art. :P I tiled the upstairs railings and stairs leading up to the top level. I also tiled the sink and the oven inside the restaurant to make them smooth. Made the oven look like it was heating the pizza. No pics of any of that though. The biker/gang member, Acid Burn, waits inside for his pizza. The pizza delivery boy walks out of the door towards his van to deliver the pizza to a hungry, lazy, home customer. Gaylord Sharp and his wife Eldelina are walking to the opera house to enjoy the finer things in life, as they do so however, they visit some of the more disgusting aspects of it, i.e., trashcans and rats. An attractive woman walking down the sidewalk catches Joe Cool's attention. As he slows down to take a good look at this newfound beauty, the man in the car behind him gets a bit angry about the traffic holdup and begins to tailgate. A better look at the bit of the side-parking lot that will be shown in this MOC. Acid Burn's motorcycle, a smart car, and the pizza delivery van all parked. The dog and child run away from Mom and Pop into the mass of greenery next to the restaurant. Any comments, criticisms, and other such things about my finished MOC are welcome. I'd love to hear what you all have to say.
  2. I actually don't use flash. It must be my light adjustment. The only good adjustable lighting I have is a regular desk lamp, so it might take a while, but I'll find some way to light this stuff better. :) I need the help of forum goers. I need an external opinion. I'm modding Small Car with my limited car pieces to make a delivery van. My only problem right now is the roof. Which do you prefer? Green Roof: Black Roof:
  3. That sounds awesome. I look forward to seeing it, no matter how long it takes for you to finish. :) Here's a link to the photo set with the instructions for building the pizza oven, Lordofdragonss. Again, the pictures aren't great, but I'm inexperienced. I don't know how to get the lighting right or to get the camera to focus correctly. Regardless, here's the link:
  4. Thanks. I'm glad you like it. :) The big thing I'm intimidated about when it comes to modular buildings is the entire idea of making the outside. With my lack of windows coupled with my lack of architectural creativity, the whole idea just scares me. Also, I used most of the smooth tile that I own on this building already and am not exactly eager to scrap it. It's my first. I remain proud. :) I'd be curious to see your modular at some point. Maybe I'll get some ideas. :) Those would be adorable tables. I don't have the red for it though. 'Tis a pity. Those would be the cutest tables ever.
  5. Thanks, lightningtiger. I think I'm able to tile the sink. I already know I can't tile the tables though. I don't have enough brown tiles and can't really order any pieces, but thanks so much for the suggestion. I do have a question though. As the floor downstairs is tiled, does the upstairs look out of place without them? I know I can't tile them now, but I mean, eventually, a year or two down the road. Sure, Lordofdragonss, and thank you. I can post some instructions for it. I haven't figured out how to make the oven look like it's cooking things yet, but I'm working on it. I'll It's not the most piece efficient build as near the end of the construction, I started just stacking plates, but I'll post something later today. It's attached to the wall too, so amend what you can. :)
  6. UPDATE!!! Scroll near the bottom of this page for pics of the surrounding environment, along with many improvements to the Pizzeria's interior and exterior. View the gallery with every picture at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pogsklinc/sets/72157627335399999/ Hey everybody. I just wanted to show pictures of my progress on a restaurant I've been building over the past couple of days. I still have a bit of work to do, but the basics are down. My goal is not to be modular in feel. As this is my first ever city MOC, modular-style buildings intimidate me, so I took the classic town approach. I also apologize for the images and their lighting. I'm new at this and have almost no idea what I'm doing. Regardless, I hope you enjoy your quick tour around the Pizza Shop. :) Views from around the shop The sign, which needs some work. It looks like the Mexican flag with a pizza, but I don't quite know what else to do for signage with the pieces I have. Satisfied customers dining on the roof. The full interior The downstairs dining area The unfortunate table under the stairs. The town magician seems to be enjoying himself enough though. The man tries to catch a waiter's eye, hoping that he and his new girlfriend shall feast on Italian delights. Little does he know, the only waiter in this place is too busy serving people upstairs.... Another man sits and waits for takeout to slip over the counter. The waiter also can grab food from there to serve people, but as I've stated, he's busy upstairs. The chef and his new apprentice, (currently doubling as a dishwasher), are hard at work in the kitchen. Since the place was too small for the pantry, the chef installed a series of hooks to hold what he needs for cooking. Sauce pans, pots, cups, knives, pizza cutters, and the works. This kitchen crew is ready for anything. The blocky old kitchen sink with lots of clean dishes and cups. The pizza making station. The chef pre-made some pizza crusts for the filling before the rush came. Now he just needs to add, sauce from the dispenser, pepperoni, cheese, and whatever that green stuff is. Before he can do that however, he must take the pizza out of the oven for the hungry customer. That's all the pictures I've got for today. Again, I'm sorry my pics aren't the best. I'm new to all of this. To do: Pizza delivery car Move baseplates to make an exterior with trashcans, rats, street life, and the like Make the oven look like it heats things Add pictures inside hanging on the walls Maybe add some greenery Potentially eventually texture the outside walls a little bit Fix the sign up top I would buy pieces for MOC's, but I'm truly not able to. That's why the floor looks so amateur and the like. I also only own 3 Lego pizza pieces. This makes pizza restaurant building difficult. :P I'm trying to make do though. Regardless, I thought I should share this. As it is my first, I'm super excited about its potential, even if currently it's made with the most rudimentary and simple techniques and looks like a piece of crap. All comments are welcome. I'm curious to hear what people with actual experience with this sort of thing have to say. Thanks for reading. :)
  7. There are no Lego clubs around here. Small town in northwestern Indiana. It's a wasteland. I'm reading the instruction manuals for them. I can't afford them, but there are some great techniques there. I also recently shoved most all of my sets into bins and sorted them by color. It's time for me to say goodbye, to most at least. I couldn't let a few go to that though. :P Wow! Your MOC's are spectacular! Intimidating that that was your first. :D
  8. I much prefer the older ones. The new ones have amazing pieces, minifigures, and designs, but I hold a soft spot for classic City. When I first started really collecting Lego, I was on the tail end of classic City onto the heavily <insert that tiresome argument> stuff of the late 1990's early 2000's. Classic city is slightly before my time. I have a few sets, but not many. The old sets just have this charm to them. While the new ones have an immense "cool" factor, the old ones are just cute and something less intimidating to want to emulate in MOCing. The new buildings can be so complex, (modular houses), but I know I personally can't afford them and MOCing that well as a beginner is a nightmare. There were also many more impulse sets in classic city. Small sets now cost about $20 as opposed to small vehicles for about $5. It was easier to populate a town with these small 4-stud vehicles. So, my vote goes to classic City.
  9. I do like that. I'm only personally keeping vehicles and my McDonalds alive. I think I'm going to try to jump right into MOC buildings. Please post pictures at some point. I'd be curious to see your layout.
  10. I recently came into a bit of money. I plan on buying both the Apple Tree House and the 2010 Airport while I'm out today. I desperately need window pieces, and that set seems to have a nice variety. Also, it's on clearance, so I'm getting it for about $20 cheaper. This will be the first time I get a new Lego set and won't build it, instead sorting the pieces into my collection. That's a step forward. :) I'm definitely going to spend more time investing in Creator sets. They do look like great parts packs. Foolio, I'd love to. I'm also going around to friend's houses and asking how much they're willing to sell their old Lego collections for. Most of them seem slightly attached to their Lego, but I think I could actually get some good deals. I might try garage sales also. Thanks so much everybody for responses.
  11. Thanks to both of you for replying. I thought this topic wasn't going to get any more responses. I've tried a little bit of Micro building before and my stuff wasn't terrible, yet the micro scale really didn't do too much for me overall. I prefer minifig scale stuff. Modular intimidates me though, and that's really all I see on these forums. It's like, if my interior and exterior isn't tiled over, my MOCs won't be accepted. Studs don't seem to be a think that most seem to like anymore... I never thought about making just the fronts of buildings. I like that idea a lot. :) I definitely will try that with smaller shops and such. Thanks so much for the idea.
  12. I'm working on trying to design a police station currently. I'll post when I am finished. I'm hoping it's addictive, but my limited collection is frustrating. I keep getting discouraged before I even start.... I'm looking avidly at many MOCs trying to get ideas, yet I am getting nowhere.
  13. Thank you both for posting pictures. Those vehicles are exceptional. :) I'll probably go mainly with 4 wide considering most of what I already have is 4 wide anyway, though I'd eventually aspire to 6. Does anybody have any idea about road building? I have no road base plates and really can't afford to buy any.
  14. Glad to know I'm not alone. LDD confuses me. I'm not extremely great with new programs. I don't quite know why. My only problem with buying bricks off of Bricklink or LEGO.com is the fact that I have no way to order them without my parent's credit card number and neither of them find my Lego habit a good one. Like, they don't like me buying any Lego anymore. Apparently it's unsuitable for a 17 year old to want to design with bricks.... :/ So what I'm going to be able to do is extremely limited. There is a great coffee shop in town that has a particularly inspired design to it. I live in a tiny town. There aren't many buildings to admire. :P I do plan on eventually making that once I can order bricks without my parents knowledge, but currently, my creations won't be very smooth. They'll probably be loaded with studs and not the best design, but this is the pain of being a young Lego fan.
  15. Thanks. :) I'm glad you like it. As I said in my first post, I didn't plan much ahead and my goal was to use EVERYTHING. I wish those sets had included more pieces to make the place look inhabited, (clear bricks for use as windows and the like), though I think this MOCs biggest downfall is the sheer fact that I did not plan. I guess an interpretation is an abandoned imperial base. :P Maybe that'll work. I definitely will add some micro-scale figures. I never even thought about adding them. Unless I'm keeping it abandoned... I dunno. I might try redesigning it around your comments.
