  1. For me it was also either 6245 Harbor Sentry or 6265 Sabre Island, and loved them a lot, while my brother got forbidden island among other pirate sets. Later on I got 6259 Broadsides Brig, but kept dreaming of Eldorado... My Cousin got the Caribbean Clipper, which also made me quite jealous, until I got 6271 Imperial Flagship for my birthday, still remember that very well. But that was my last lego pirates set, since my lego kid years were about over. Fortunately still have them all.
  2. I guess it was already said enough times, but the difference is obviously the Barracuda ship; while the original idea looks like a little pirate village or harbour, built out of different stranded ships and boats, and could easily be expanded and be something like Nassau; the Barracuda Bay is one big ship(the Barracuda) stranded, parted in three, the crew keeps living in that same ship and just refurbished the necessary. But nothing like a town or a house or even a hut... And there was never the requirement that it had to be rebuilt to be a ship. But if you take that as a requirement, yes then it would be difficult to do something more similar, if you don't use various smaller ships with some rare forms or completely rebuild it. And the original wouldn't have had that big response if it would not have been something special, if you didn't like it that's another story. But me and over 10'000 other guys thought it was something special. So that's more or less my view, and maybe someone else thinks something similar, but it is quite hard to describe, and it the end it doesn't matter. We all have are own opinions and let us just discuss without trying to make the other ones look like some fools who don't get the point. At the end you're right, we can be happy to have our pirates back, in what ever form it is.
  3. First, I'm not negative at all, just sharing my opinion with what I liked and what not, and it is not the same as yours, but that is ok. I repeat myself I like the set a lot, and when I saw that there was a ship in it, I first thought you have to rebuild the set, but was kind of impressed that it's actually right there. And I liked the guys enthusiasm about the project and the lego classic pirates. And yes you can see step by step how they changed it, and it helps a lot to see the similarity. But still it doesn't look similar to me at all; if you go this chain 2-3 steps further down, you can change the ship by an airplane in the desert or ice landscape, or a spaceshuttle on the moon/mars or whatever. You still have the similarity, but you don't see it anymore, doesn't feel like the same set. I didn't find any ideas set that looks that diferent from the original, even steamboat willie doesn't, even if they may have changed more... I understand that you can see that differently, but please try to understand that there can also be other opinions than yours, and they can be shared as well and it has nothing to do with negativity. Nobody wants an exact copy, but for some there is a diference between a horse and a donkey or a zebra, for others it's just all horses, and for others its just animals.
  4. That sums it up quite well. I also was quite shocked when I saw the final set for the first time, there was practicaly no resemblance. I still miss the structures of the original, and I liked for example the diferent RedBeard with grown beard, and a little bit of new approach to the theme. And it still doesn't feel like the same set. But like most of us, I like the final set aswell and probably will buy it. And for me it will not just be my first Pirate ship, but my first Pirateset, since I always got the bluecoat and redcoat sets, and my brother got the pirates... Finally, after like 28 years, my old imperial flagship(6271) will have enemies. Really hope the 3in1 will give us some good alternate builds...
  5. Love that, nice color scheme, and awesome idol. Would love to find that in real somewhere...
  6. Wow, that's a great Scene, perfect captured mood, also with the right faces, scared but determined to conquer... The only question I have; why is the boat white? Love all stuff about "The new world" era, although a lot of bad things happened there, but yet it's so fascinating. Always asking myself why there aren't more movies about it? So, looking forward to see more of your Cortes series. And if you go a little more down south, with Francisco Pizzarro, I wouldn't be sad either.
