This set has its flaws, but it is not smaller then the previous WV train, it has over 200 more pieces, and if you compare the two engines, the new one appears to be several inches longer. While I to was hoping for something different, I am skeptical they will do a North Pole train station, but it would be cool.

Well, first off, keeping in mind that it's been 9 years since a Winter Village Train, if this is your only train, it's fine. As someone who owns the previous Winter Village, it is kind of a letdown. Why they did not do a proper Christmas Passenger train is a mystery. But will it look fine running around your tree or Winter Village, yes it will. But I agree, the lack of proper big drive wheels is also a mystery. I'm fine with the polar bear, if you have been paying attention Polar Bears have become synonymous with Christmas over the last 20 years, Thanks Coke. I do like the color scheme. But yeah, its basically the cousin of the previous set. Maybe even half sibling. As for the Giant Tree. I'm not sure what to think about that for 300 plus dollars. I saw someone indicate it as Santas NORAD, and I guess if you are going to integrate it into the WV North Pole, that would be the play. That said, I like Christmas, I like Lego, and I like Trains, so I will be getting the train... but yeah, I guess my main hope for a proper Christmas Passenger train now is for someone to get the Polar Express/Lego deal done. Seems overdue.

I am hoping for an Art Deco Steam Engine with passenger cars. And while I appreciate that people don't want another North Pole set, if they just make it red and green passenger cars with a few wreaths on it and some hot cocoa being served, it's literally just a rethemed Harry Potter train. What might work is a bridge between the North Pole and the Village, perhaps the Polar Express, errrr, Winter Express is a mail, gift, and passenger train. It brings Mail up to the North Pole, between the two post offices, and brings back gifts to the toy stores. Anyhow, just having fun, hoping that we get a look at it tomorrow, which is basically three weeks from its release. Seriously though, the last thing we need is another steam engine, I have Orient Express, Winter Village, Disney Train, and the previous HP train, 4 Steam Engines is enough.

I don't know if i would consider the last two years redesigns of previous sets. Now, I do not think last years set was that great, and I am hoping the train this year is a strong bounce back. But the reason I do not believe last years set is a redesign is because it is the North Poles Mail office, if anything it is a companion to the original post office, now the letters can travel from one place to the other. As for the trains, and this is coming from someone who runs my winter village as the back drop for the trains, But that said, for train lovers anyhow, saying a passenger train is a redesign of a freight train is a little like saying a Tie Fighter is a redesign on an X Wing or a Pick Up Track is a Redesign of a Sport car. I do agree with you about the older sets though, and alternating from one year to the next, or better yet, bring out two sets in one year. Cheers Robert

I am hoping it is mostly just the train. So, by comparing it to the newest Harry Potter Set, which also retails for 130.00, but has 100 pieces less, and also has a station, they could pull it off. The reason they cost the same is because the HP set has to give JK her money.for better or worse, but the WV has no license, but comes with a full track. My hope is that the train that comes with the WV set will have bigger engine that the last WV, I don't think it will come with a motor, and I am fine with that, because for some families this will just be a push toy train. I am hoping for a train that is a bit more robust then the HP train, my preference would be 2 passenger cars behind a steam engine, with a holiday decorated train platform, not a station. Hoping we find out within the next 2 weeks.

This makes sense. Especially since when they did the s stand alone station, I don't think it sold as well. I personally hope they put all of into the train, as I have the WV station, the disney station, and the previous HP station, but that's just me being selfish. I guess though, the other way they could go is make next year a North Pole train station, if they really are trying to emulate the Polar Express somewhat.

That is exactly what I do, I run my train from one end of the set up to the other, with the village on one end, and Santa's North Pole on the other, I guess somewhat emulating the Polar Express.

So, the last train was 100 dollars, but it only had 734 pieces. And part of that is track, while being only one piece, is much bigger. This set will have about 250 more pieces for about 30 dollars more. I think that is great, because I am hoping either this new train has a beefier engine or more then two little cars beyond the engine and tender. It won't be motorized, but I think that is fine, because it is a "toy train" so pushing it will be great for kids. I should come with the directions to motorize it though. I know for people who already have a train, it's a bummer if you don't need another, but it has been 9 years since the last train, and 130.00 is better for the new people then paying 250 plus for a used one online. Also, as someone who has ran the Disney and WV train together in my WV, it is fun to have to trains going one two separate tracks, if you have the space. Just creates that extra level of kinetic energy.

Looks great. I know it's not huge or anything, but its a nice addition to fill out the North Pole. Someone mentioned having the fireplace on the outside. A: I used my Winter Village sets as displays, like a traditional department store collection, so having elements on the outside facing the POV I set up is great. B: But that said, I was curious about outside fireplaces, so I googled it. It is 100 percent a thing. I like the height of the balloon, which is also nice to have for a layout. I think it will look very nice with the other Santa Centric sets.

I love it! It looks whimsical and fun, like Santa's Elves, and it has an Elf, always wanting to build my elf army.

I grew up in Arizona, our church would be lined with them the week of Christmas, and then at the Christmas Eve service you could take one home with you to have Christmas morning.
