  1. I just stumbled upon this thread, and figured I might as well add a few pictures of my "collection" Currently most of my beams are tied up in all the cranes I have currently built, but there are a "few" 1 x 16's I still have that aren't being used.... Here are a few pics of my cranes as they are stored:
  2. Use braided Dacron fishing line. Musky Master works about the best.
  3. I'll chime in here on the "studded" side. I absolutely loathe studless beams. For the types of models I build, there is no way possible that studless construction would hold up under the stresses and pressures put I on them. Without the plate/beam connections the booms on my cranes would buckle. I even asked TLG about the move to studless and expressed my displeasure with it, and was told that it was the way all the models were headed. I have been stockpiling studded Technic beams ever since! While some models surely do look better in studless, the are nowhere near as strong as studded. -Alvin.
  4. Each drum is a series of 40 tooth gears meshing with 16 and 24 tooth gears. Each drum is driven by 2x PF XL motors. There is also 20 parts of line in each bridle for each side of the boom.
  5. I have almost all of my cranes still put together. I have taken the superstructure of the LR-11200 apart to build the new LR-11350, but the booms are still intact. The old LR-1750 has been dismantled completely. (to build a new one, of course!) I think last count, I have (5) complete cranes, and two or three in "progress/dismantling" stage... I have a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer that I take with me to BrickFair. It usually takes me the better part of an entire day to set three of them up. The winch motors are geared so low that they lift their booms painfully slow. It takes the cc8800 Twin about 4 hours to get from horizontal to vertical.... I will post some pictures of them in the trailer when I head up to DC this August.
  6. No ladder, I built them in my kitchen/dining room/den!
  7. Well, on the biggest one, there are technically (4) axles at the pivot point, one for each side of the two sections of boom. Still, there is only a Technic axle at this point! It is still strong enough to hold the weight of itself while lifting the entire boom from horizontal too...
  8. I just stumbled upon this forum while searching for some ideas for my BrickFair 11 setup...Figured I might as well post some pictures of some of my various creations and see if anyone had any comments or questions... Well, here we go! My tallest MOC to date. The cc-8800 Twin. Final overall height was 24' My windmill and cc-8800 are also in the picture. The twin and single boom 8800's are both in the same scale I have also tried my hand at truck cranes too, with the Liebherr LTM-1800 Here is another picture of it with the luffer installed next to the PC-6800 at BrickFair last year: Here is the cc8800 "single" which is fully RC: and finally, the PC-6800, which I am still working on: If anyone wants to see more pictures of the cranes, my brickshelf folder is full of them! brickshelf Thanks for taking a minute to check out my creations, hope they are enjoyed. -Alvin.
