Having got the Ideas Voltron for Xmas (and loved it), I wanted to get into modding by altering to look more like the Netflix Legendary Defender series. I didn't get into Voltron until that series came out so it would be nice to match it more closely.
The end-point would be a full set of mods, one for each lion plus a replacement sword. I'm starting small by looking at the Green Lion first.

The top assembly is part of the existing model. The bottom assembly is my replacement for it. The other two elements are two modules for the back - one to match the original look as closely as possible and one for the LD version.
The big issue here is the lack of space to work with. Turning the 2x2 angular bricks into 2x1 means the entire centre core is only seated at the bottom, which means pulling the module away risks separating that entire section. I've extended the bottom 2x1s by a knob to try to alleviate that. The connection is with a snap. There's no reason why the tube piece won't come away with the module rather than stay on the lion, but I don't think that's fixable. Even as flat as I can make it, the connection on the module stands proud by 1/3 of a brick so I have to add retaining elements on the side. They could be flat pieces rather than sloping, but I like this look better. If someone has an idea for a better method of achieving this without altering the base lion too much, I'd love to hear.
