  1. Hehe this thread has become the LEGO scam watch thread.
  2. Hmmmm tempted to get that. Seems like it comes with a unique minifig like the Star Wars encyclopedia one.
  3. Hey fellow LEGO lovers. I got a Toyworld pamphlet in the mail the other day that's got up to 50% off till Sunday coupons: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/32/scan0005jo.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/20/scan0007f.jpg/ Donno if they accept printouts, but could be worth a shot?
  4. Hehe. I'm going to borrow some kids from someone at the shopping centre to give this one a go tomorrow. :)
  5. Damn guys. I hope your B&N orders arrive. That sounded like a sweet deal. I'm surprised at how small the DJ LEGO section is in Melbourne. The Sydney one was heaps larger. Not sure if they still have them in stock but the Sydney DJs had about 8 Grand Emporiums a few weeks back that they got from other stores in NSW apparently. With the 20% off they'll be a decent $200 odd. Also re: fishpond. It's totally hit and miss. I got my grand emporium delivered pretty quickly but 2 orders were canceled due to errors and another 3 I keep getting emails with revised shipping times (i.e. they'll never arrive).
  6. Regarding the price differences here is some interesting info. The Death Star is $399 US and $699 here. With conversions it's close to twice the price here. However in Denmark the price is only $80 AUD less than here. Which isn't a huge difference. So the US is indeed below the other countries as explained previously. But here is the kicker. A reliable source has told me that the cost to make the set is only $180. So the markup in the US is more 'fair' whereas here it's massively inflated. I think you are right. On that note there is this cheap sandwich place in Melbourne that sells stuff for $4 odd. Whereas all other places charge heaps more. The thing is they might make smaller profits but there is always a queue there. So they are probably generating a bigger revenue than other shops. The same might work for LEGO. Though of course, if you set the price lower then people get used to the lower price and even they seem excessive. But a least they all buy locally when they realize that the price is decent from a global perspective.
  7. Checked out a couple of MYER stores and there was nothing really good. Do they even stock the modular buildings now? I didn't see a single trace. And no Pet Shops of course. Grabbed some City helicopters to use the parts for some custom builds. They're not bad at $11 odd a pop. And the space buggy will make a cute mini MAKO (for Mass Effect fans out there).
  8. Hey guys. If anyone is after QAR, she can be had for about $100 delivered via thehut.com Use MMD50 at checkout for $5 off. It's a pre order.
  9. Thanks for the welcome Angela. Glad to find the forum! Finally got 10 posts so I could view and reply to your message! Hope to stay in touch. :)

  10. Hi folks! The name says it all. I recently got into LEGO building and collecting. It turned from being a passion into more of an addiction. :) I mainly collect and build Technic sets but also like the Star Wars and all sorts of other random sets that look pleasing to the eye and seem fun to build. Once I get more loose bricks together I'll be keen on some custom space ships and architecture. Cheers! Lego Love
  11. I predict that at this rate my number will be a set in approximately 25 years. I hope Eurobricks lasts that long. :)
  12. I think it's normal to get different themes. I'm personally a fan of Star Wars and Technic sets. But if a set from another theme looks great (like Queen Anne's Revenge from PotC) then I have to yoink it!
  13. I'm pretty open about my relatively newfound hobby. The girlfriend isn't too happy about it and people at work fail to understand that LEGO isn't just for kids. But little do I care about what they think as long as it's enjoyable to me. :) Also not sure if it's a passion or more of an addiction now!
  14. Pardon my ignorance, but like some other products, is there fake LEGO coming out of China and therefore is there any risk with buying via eBay?
  15. The gravatar idea is neat. Totally forgot I had one set up and was surprised to see an avatar I didn't use for ages!
  16. Ah! This explains why I can't even view my own profile. :)
  17. Thanks for the warm welcome! I was on the fence too about QAR however I thought it would make a worthy addition to the Imperial Flagship. Apparently they will bring out more PotC ships in the near future. But I have no doubt that QAR will go up in price. And where are the good sales in 5 weeks? Online or at stores (or both)? I only started collecting and building again relatively recently so I'm not aware of all the good sales yet. I'm certainly glad I found this great community though!
  18. I grabbed a couple of Cannibal Escapes because of the discount, but in retrospect even $30 is a bit average. The minifigs are great, but the RRP for that set is way too high. QAR on the other hand is awesome at the sub $150 Target and BigW price. The ship has great presence.
  19. Hi all. I'm new here (first post) so apologies if this was posted already. Amazon UK have free shipping on books to Australia and the Brickmaster series are in that category. Therefore the sets are about $16 delivered. http://www.amazon.co.uk/LEGO®-Star-Wars-Brickmaster-Lego/dp/1405356227/ In the case of the Star Wars one, that's great value as it has 240 bricks and 2 figures. Worth even getting a couple of them for custom builds or spare parts. The other sets only have 140 pieces. Also be aware of the pre-order sets as they will push the delivery date of the order way off. Free shipping means they ship them all at the same time.
