Here is my attempt at modding the 9396 with cyclic and collective controls: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jetnoize/sets/72157631884184575/with/8136788385/ It is still a work in progress, the functions don't work as they should yet. There's too much play in the mechanics, when I move the sticks, the blades barely move. Also I am still looking at how I can change the connection between the swashplate and the rotor because of the play. The tailrotor is also modified with links, altough no pedals have been added (yet?) in the cockpit. There 's no more space available. The links used for the tailrotor are these: http://www.bricklink.com/PL/6571.jpg?0 sadly these links are too bulky, so they limit the movement. I must admit I underestimated this mod! I have considered modifying some pieces but IMO this goes beyond the purpose of Lego. PS: sorry for the quality of the pictures, it was a quick photosession.

Thanks for the great reactions! Here is how I did the main rotor (see attached picture). The droop is there because of the technic pins I used (this to be able to put some pitch in each blade) The rotor itself is quitte sturdy and it doesn't break at all. In fact I am very pleased how the blades droop, it really adds to the realism. Here you can see how the motor is build in the model: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5375109 The battery box isn't build in, it is too large. I have to put it beside the helicopter or in the cargo bay when running the motor. This was my main inspiration, along with the american build CH 53

Wow what a great MOC, You captured the looks of the DC-3 really well! Nice way of doing the landing gear, I like how the rear struts become part of the nacelle when retracted.

V-A-02F, V-LC-10C & V-LC-10D Hello, Here is a MOC i have build: a large transport helicopter for minifigs, complete with support equipment. It's been a year since I've first started designing the model with LDD, now I finally came around to building it. The heli is not really ready yet. I'm looking at reinforcing the landing gear because the heli is quite heavy. IMG_7998 by Jetnoize, on Flickr IMG_8012 by Jetnoize, on Flickr More pictures can be seen at http://www.flickr.com/photos/jetnoize The LDD renderings and some progress pictures can bee seen at http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=496836 The heli has working rotors, powered by a PF M-motor. The landing gear is retractable. I have incorporated 2 PF LED's in the interior. The cockpit is detailed with front and overhead instrumentpanels, 2 cyclic and 2 collective sticks and of course the minifig crew. The cargobay is quite large and unobstructed. There's a cargosling hook on the underside. Furthermore I've put many details on the model like various antenna's, rear view mirror's and (non functional) lights.

Nice stuff. These builds look quite convincing. I have worked on the real DS, they are a great piece of car history! Luckily the Lego versions aren't as sensitive to rust like the real one.

Buying through Design By Me
Plastikman replied to Plastikman's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
This bothers me too. All things considered, Design by me is not really worth it for this model, especially since I'm not sure how the instructions will turn out. Buying from other sources also frees me from the limited pallet of blocs which may translate in some changes in the helo model (sugestions welcome!) -
Thanks Brickdoctor, I have made a Brickshelf acount and added some pictures of some other designs, a serie of helicopters

Hi, I have been designing some MOCs on LDD for some time. Now I would like to buy this helicopter I build up in Design by me mode, just for the experience of it! The idea of being able to purchase a MOC and having it in a fancy box with building instructions is just amazing. If I was a child I'd be designing my own christmas presents I have two concerns though: How do the building instructions come out? The instructions I have generated don't make any sence, adding elements long after they should be added etc. Maybe the model is to large (about 1500 brics) Second: the price. Compared to the last Lego set I bought many years ago (supercar 8880, a bit les bits at around 1300), the price is very high. I have considered buying the pieces for the helicopter from other sources but it's a hassle. What are your experiences on this? This is the model:

Hi, I'm 28 years old, I have recently discovered this site while searching the web for Lego. As a child I had a great passion for Lego, no other toy ever equalled. I still have my collection! Now I often do MOCs on LDD, it's very relaxing after a day at work. Seems I only get 100kb to upload, so here's one picture of some micro scale skyscrapers I've been designing
