Without seeing pictures I would say you have definitely gone wrong somewhere because the engine on mine spun really free.

Check this video he tells you step by step how to make it RC. If I remember rightly it cost me about £60 for all the parts to make mine RC and I already had the controllers. https://youtu.be/O8easq7ueIo

My Arocs and Volvo L350F, I got them for Xmas from my wife and mum. I've built the Arocs a model and then built it into the b model, I've done a few little modifications to it, it is rc drives and steers, and on the b model the landing legs on the trailer operate.

Hi guys I would like to introduce myself, my name is Matt and I in the UK. I've just recently got back into Lego thanks to my wife, mum and my 7yo daughter. My little girl must have almost every Lego Friends set available and I've spent may hours helping her building Grand hotels Livvys house ect, my Hobby is building and driving RC cars in have several Tamiya models Sand Scorcher, Super Hotshot, Neo Scorcher and a vintage Ford Ranger XLT. I also have a RB E ONE R 1:8th Racing buggy. Let me explain how I got back into Lego, I used to work for Volvo as an Hgv mechanic and I now drive a Mercedes Benz Actros, for my Xmas present my wife was going to get me a Tamiya Blackfoot to add to my collection but she noticed everytime we went to Toys r us with the kids I'd pick up the Arocs. So my wife and my Mum decided that instead of the Blackfoot they would buy me Lego as I have enough RC's, so my wife bought me 42043 Arocs and my mum got me 42030 Volvo L350F. They got a great deal Toys r us had buy one get one half price and they price matched so they got them both for just under £200, and I've been hooked ever since.
