Thanks for the heads up Ash, I was gutted to miss out last time but I've now snapped it up! What a deal

Unfortunately I don't think Portal is 'mainstream' enough to become a Lego theme, especially amongst Lego's target audience, but these are absolutely incredible creations and if Lego did ever release them I would be banging on the doors of a Lego store at launch date frantically waving large amounts of cash around!

I don't think you've received enough credit for the trouble you've gone to with that .gif, that is really inventive (both the .gif and your design!) and very helpful to others. Many thanks, Sir!

If the PaB selection at your local Lego store is anything like the ones in the UK you'll do well to get any of the pieces you need! Ours are just full up of 2x4 bricks in every imaginable colour...

Wow, care to show us some photos of your collection Morty?

What's a Better Engine, Red or Yellow Cargo?
smith_sam88 replied to Paul B Technic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
The 3677 is the only train set released in the last few years that I Haven't bought. Firstly I think £130 is too much for a train set that, to my mind, has less to it than the 7939 cargo train, in terms of the train itself, trackside features and the track. And relating to your specific question, I am not a big fan of the red engine in set 3677 - the proportions don't look right to me, it looks too long at the front. I know a few members on here have modded it to make it look slightly shorter. Can I ask those people if that modification can be made with the existing pieces? -
I have a total of 3 carriages. I think 4 is the perfect number, and I have another MISB Emerald Night which I forgot about over the last few months - now that it is discontinued I'm not sure whether I can bring myself to open it anymore!
-
I was thinking the same. I just went through all the printed dishes in the Bricklink catalogue and couldn't see that one anywhere. If that is the case it would indeed be a first for the modular line!
-
In isolation, it looks fantastic. I really like the clock and the colours mix together wonderfully well. However, I think it looks a bit silly next to the Pet Shop and the Grand Emporium - it's just so big! Not that that will deter me from buying it, mind!
-
The pictures for the 2012 sets are all from catalogues distributed to retailers. The modular buildings are Lego exclusives and therefore wont appear in those catalogues. The last modular building, the pet shop, was kept under such close wrap that it was only seen by a few individuals before it launched.

Would I be able to become a member of a LUG for my country (and pay associated membership fees etc) and participate in this year's LUGBULK program, or is there a convention that this offer is only open to longer serving LUG members who have participated in lots of events? Thanks

Layout WIP: I've finally started a real layout!

You are not seriously going to buy 333 green baseplates are you?! -
Why does this forum feel the need to adopt such an overly draconian approach to spelling and grammar? This site, by its very name, probably implies that there are going to be a fairly large number of Europeans posting in the forums for whom English is not their primary language. Why don't we give them a break? Incidentally I thought the post in question was perfectly intelligible. If I wanted to be really picky I could say that Hinckley shouldn't have put an s at the end of appropriate! Anyway, back on topic, I'm not too keen on the idea of more Police and Fire sets, even if they are under a different sub-theme. I thought the rumours for 2012 indicated that the Hospital sub-theme was going to make a return?

I completely agree with the idea of selling them as service packs online. From reading this thread and others, it seems that TLG is reluctant to introduce additional coaches because: a) there is limited store space/limited number of products that can be introduced b) it may stop parents buying the large sets for their children c) it may stop AFOLs buying multiple complete sets Introducing extra coaches online as service packs addresses both a) and b). With point c) I prefer to look at it a different way. Whilst there might be some loss of profit from AFOLs only buying one complete set, the TLG would gain extra profit from AFOLs expanding trains who wouldn't do so otherwise, and TLG would also gain a slice of the eBay and Bricklink markets. This potential profit is difficult to quantify but I think it would more than offset money lost from AFOLs only having to buy one complete set.

Forget about the dollar price rising, there might not even be a Euro price by October!
-
I agree with this. Judging from what I see on eBay and Bricklink these days, there seems to be a growing market for the buying of train sets and the selling of each individual carriage separately. I'm sure Lego could make money from this - a large number of AFOLs would definitely appreciate the opportunity to buy extra rolling stock for the Maersk train, the Emerald Night and even the normal passenger trains. Of course, Lego can only introduce so many new products each year but I think it would be easy for them to have a section on their website selling additional rolling stock for trains. I think this would be a big hit with AFOLs, and also wouldn't stop parents from buying whole train sets for their children if the additional rolling stock was just sold online.

I see that the ME Models Metal Rails are now available on http://www.brickshop.nl/ for us European folk. The $20 Metal Rails Box costs EUR 25 though - that works out at $36! It also works out to costing over EUR 4 per piece of track - Lego 9V track sells for cheaper than that on Bricklink! Looks like I'll be sticking to Lego 9V track...though I may well be tempted by the different radius curves when they become available!
-
Given that 9V track is probably almost exclusively purchased on the second hand market by AFOLs, it's not too surprising to see the price of it go down in light of the successful release of the ME track. Having got fed up of waiting for their quad rails to come back in stock I have recently acquired 50 straight pieces of 9V track at just under £2 (around $3.25) a piece. It will be interesting to see what happens to the price of the crossover and switch tracks and 9V motors over the next few weeks. They may well all rise if 9V is enjoying a mini-revival in light of the launch of the ME track!

I've only recently got back into Lego over the past year, having dug out my childhood collection from the loft and falling in love with it again. One of the old sets was 4559 Cargo Railway and from the moment I rebuilt that I decided I had to get into Lego trains. Through a combination of eBay, Bricklink and S@H I now own: 4559 Cargo Railway 4563 Load and Haul Railroad 4558 Metroliner (and 4547 Club Car ) 4511 High Speed Train 4512 Cargo Train 7897 Passenger Train 7938 Passenger Train (with 2 extra centre carriages) 7939 Cargo Train 10194 Emerald Night 10219 Maersk Train I also have some of the My Own Train carriages - 10013 Open Freight Wagon, 10015 Green Passenger Wagon, 10016 Tanker and 10017 Hopper Wagon - but not the locomotive (yet!). Next on my list is another Emerald Night and another Maersk Train . I'm also after the Santa Fe and BNSF locomotives but I'm refusing to pay silly prices...as you can probably guess I haven't had much luck there so far!

I bought the 6754 Creator house from my local TRU a couple of weeks ago. They had at least 5 or 6 in there and they had been there for a long, long time. I was hoping that they would be reduced in price to make way for some of the new Creator sets but they are still priced at £60. Not a surprise with TRU I guess, they are selling the public transport station for £100 - it's £82 on S@H! Still, I guess that's not too bad a price for the Creator house since it has been discontinued. I am tempted to go back and buy another one, it's a good set for tan bricks
-
Wow, the two townhouses look absolutely spectacular together! If the pet shop and townhouse were released as 2 separate sets costing £60-70 each I would definitely consider buying 4 or 5 townhouses and having a whole terrace, I think that would look brilliant.
-
I still need 8 of these roof slopes, what's the number to call to order them?
-
SilentMode - do they have any Maersk trains at the Westfield store?
-
I built the Cafe Corner a few months ago and also had trouble with the dark red slopes. I didn't want to compromise on colour, so I used the 'double' slopes (3684) which are abundantly available in dark red on Bricklink. It obviously doesn't give the same tiled effect, but it allowed me to finish building it, and I simply waited patiently for the single slopes to emerge on Bricklink so that I could properly complete the building. You do need 4 of the single slopes for the end bits though...
