And now that I've built and played with this set... Set of the year, definitely. So. Amazing.
-
It's not reminiscent of a Vic Viper. Look at the stickers--the name on there and the picture of a snake. It is a Vic Viper. An official Vic Viper. That is so awesome. I'm just so impressed by the look of the set. I generally enjoy official Lego designs, but this one is just beyond the norm. I don't think I've seen a non-MOC Lego military-type vehicle so solid looking since the T1 Typhoon helicopter (one of the few sets I've never disassembled, because it's so awesome!). I really can't wait to get this thing in my hands. Wish it came with more minifigs, but I always want more minifigs.

Excellent review! I've got this set lined up for Christmas. Can't wait to get it built. Definitely looks like set of the year material. I'll need to swap out one of the two mustache guy's faces (he also comes in the abductor set), I think. He's too cool to be a generic guy.

LDD update 4.1.8 released
Esser-Z replied to Superkalle's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
Hooray, start of the old cockpits! I'd like to see the long ones, like were used in so much of Aquazone and the Space lines, but it's good to see SOME start in that direction. The Aquashark armor remains broken, though. This is sad. Really wish the tube they added that I first recall seeing in Life on Mars was a bending-equipped piece, too -

Woo, old hinges! Hopefully they'll follow up with the old cockpits in future updates. -
[MOC] LXI-317(t) Finnegan Light Combat Mech/Assault Runner
Esser-Z replied to Esser-Z's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The colors are the result of my prototyping process, which only sometimes results in me actually fixing the colorscheme. I note that the minifig is in those not-matching colors simply because I repurposed my Aquazone figures into powered armor, and I simply don't have the right colors to match the armor mold to the construction. I was also, and this should have gone in the first post, working from an intentionally limited part supply. -
One of several multipurpose combat designs, the Finnegan functions both as a high-speed slight-hover vehicle and a frontline infantry mech. Primary armament in both modes is a pair of plasma cannons, with anti-infantry energy burst emitters available in bipedal form. It is important to note that, while the pilot does seem awfully exposed in assault runner form, he is equipped with top of the line heavy powered armor, well-suited to deflect any fire that would reasonably be headed his way as he speeds to the fight. Yeah. Colors kinda... not matching perfectly. At least they're symmetrical, except for that one frustrating yellow one where I couldn't find the right color piece. Comes from using an intentionally limited part supply.

And still can't connect four prismatic binoculars to a 1x1 with four side studs like in the Striking Venom or Lunar Limo. :( -
LDD 4.1 Released

I can no longer launch the program now that I've installed the update. Attempting to do so start the process, as I can see in task manager, but no program window opens. I'm running Vista, and had no trouble before the patch. Trying a driver update. And it worked. -
Count me in on the needing-one. All my Lego's horribly unsorted, with the exception of MOST of my minifigs and minifig parts!

The forward vacuum is cool, but I love the random-looking stream of bricks at the back. Very cleverly assembled!

If that isn't Dr. Seuss inspired, I'll eat my hat. I like my hat quite a bit. That is a glorious model.
-
Oooh. Now that IS a good idea. I was just going to integrate it with the rest of the mecha (mostly Exo-Force and MOC, with some exceptions) in my Space And Related set-up. Hmm. Perhaps it'll be time to rebuild some of my town and set it back up. Been awhile since I cycled the display table...

The Barracuda man is so awesome. I need the Atlantis Temple to come out hereabouts so I can spend a ridiculous amount of money for the crab-man. And, okay, the rest of an awesome-looking set. I'm psyched for the minidrill the Drill Submarine has in it. And love that the sub has a tiny version of itself.

I am in love. Lego Scifi is consistently my biggest love, and this is no exception. The new human armored troopers look great. Space Police and Collectible Cyborg (grr at never finding the previous Minifigure waves) have totally sold me on the new helmet piece. It's a great powered armor sort of thing. Liking the new human gun mold quite a bit, too. Be nice to have some molded weapons that aren't just the Star Wars ones (not that I have anything against more traditional scifi armaments). Set by set, 7049 looks like a nice little impulse buy. Liking the new alien head quite a bit, and I've always liked multi-minifig impulse level sets. Minifigs are the best thing. Impulse pricing might make it my default 'get more than one for more minifigs!' set. 7050 is a nice looking little truck, and another pair of interesting minifigs. Not much to say. 7051 looks incredible. Lego has always been great at mecha and walkers, with no exception here. I'm very interested in the headsquids. 7052 is actually the set I'm least interested in from the line. True, the farmer is a great looking civilian minifig, but I'm not quite sold on the ship. It's nice enough, but not super exciting like the others, at least in the official photos. In general, I'm quite fond of the blue coloring for the military vehicles. It's sharp. 7065, on the other hand, is beautiful. It's nice to see the Cthuluman legs being used again. The alien leader is a fantastic looking minifig, and the reporter looks cool. Spinning ring is glorious. Really wish it had some traditional minicraft gimmick. I've always loved those. 7066 is hands down the set I want most. The truck looks very tough and well armed. Nice and solid looking. Nice looking little fighter jet, too, and as I said above. I love docking vehicle gimmicks. Nothing really notable about the small saucer. Now, the minifigs... Doctor looks nice, soldiers always good--and one's an elusive female minifig, yay. One of the cool looking aliens and... a cyborg alien pirate! That triggers more than one layer of awesome. I picture him buddying around with the Minifigures Cyborg. 7067 is a really sweet vehicle, too. Nice assault chopper-jet. I love the splitting alien pod vehicle, too.

That Scarab is one of my favorite little models of recent years. It's so adorable, menacing, and fun, all at the same time. I credit it with being the set that sold me on Pharaoh's Quest. Well, along with the new mummies from the Golden Staff set. Such great villain minifigs. Now if only the local stores had the flying mummy set in stock! I'm finding myself fond of the new cast. Jack was clearly mentored by the now-retired legendary adventurer Johnny Thunder. Just look at the sideburns! Need to pick up the Cobra and Flying Mummies, next. Maybe another couple Golden Staffs, entirely for the mummies (okay, and the cool motorcycle and staff parts). Maybe a couple more scarabs, too. So awesome. Got my Cobra and Flying Mummies. Both rock.

REVIEW: 7306 Golden Staff Guardians
Esser-Z replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Very nice review. Grabbed the set as part of my recent shopping trip. I am absolutely in love with the new mummies. Might end up picking up another couple copies of the set just to have a small army of them. They're great, as is their equipment. The vintage-style motorcycle is glorious, too. -
Review: 7305 Scarab Attack
Esser-Z replied to Still Raindrop's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Picked this one up yesterday. The Scarab is quite possibly one of my favorite recent models. It's simple, but just so incredibly awesome. I'm still a bit sad that it's a new adventure hero instead of good ol' Johnny, but I figure Jack's his successor. Thunder and crew retired at last, passing the torch to the next generation of explorer. And another color of crystal is always lovely.
