Heroica RPG - Quest #80: Sic Semper Tyrannis
Scorpiox replied to Capt.JohnPaul's topic in The Heroica Archive
Haldor stumbled backwards, retching. He looked down at his sceptres, matted with blood, and felt a horrible sickness rising in his throat. The insulating effect of the berserker blood was fading - Haldor's senses returned, and the horror of what he had done hit him hard in the gut. There was no honour in this killing, no blessing to be gained - this was not a fight that a nord takes pride in. Murder, the slaying of an unarmed foe is inhuman, Haldor knew that. Those who fought battles against those who were weak or could not defend themself had no place in Valhalla. Thoric would not smile on this deed, nor his earthly friends. This was the mark of a man that Haldor could not, would not become. The nord coughed up bitter blood onto the dry arena sands. "What is this? What the hell are we doing? This is not a fight, this is brutal and needless slaughter. These men, they do not need to die. What the hell are we fighting for? This hellhole of a city, where men and women clash swords for the sick entertainment of the crowds. I do not know these men - I have no quarrel with them, I will not be their executioners. I stand this no longer." With a roar of disgust and fury, Haldor tossed his weapons violently to the ground. He spat a mixture of blood and bile at his feet, hate for his deeds and hate for those enjoying this rose high in his mind. But he must not let his anger get the better of him, not again, lest his darker brutal side return again and carry his body to fight. The nord slowly turned his gaze up to the cheering, chanting crowds, their gleeful faces in stark contrast to the bloody scene they bore witness too. He hated them. He hated their ignorant, greedy smiles, their deceitful, sparkling eyes. Not one of them has seen true battle, nor felt the heat of conflict as they fought for their lives against desperate men. They know nothing of the world, if they did, they would know that such brutality is to be despised, not loved. And at his reluctance to kill the orc woman, and then spill yet more blood by finishing the bearded man; Haldor sensed a change come over the crowd. Their cheers turned to boos, their adoration to irritation. Insults and objects were hurled, dust stang Haldor's eyes, his wounds bled painfully. They jeered, chanting catcalls in their childish voices, unable to stand the sight of a man who could not do what they so desired. They wanted blood, but more than enough was already soaking deep into earth. The nord couldn't hold himself back any longer. He shouted, screamed, roared - voice thick with venom. " Are you not entertained?! Is this not why you're here? To revel in the suffering of others, circling like vultures over a corpse. I will not play with the lives of other men for your amusement, I want no more part in your sick fascination. If you take such pleasure in this scene of blood and anger, if this is what you enjoy most... why do you only sit on the sidelines and jeer as you do? Come down here, any of you. Climb down to our level and show me how much this pleases you! A dozen, a score - I don't care! Tell me; are you not entertained?!"Haldor will heal Mizuki. Battle Order: Xander Romulus Haldor Mizuki -
Wow, that's an extremely touching story, Endgame, I'm pretty sure that no better monologue has occurred in the hall. Seriously, be proud of that.

I hope that I'm not irritating anyone with my (perhaps excessive) roleplaying - I've never been one to just repeat my actions wordlessly.

Inside, Haldor was crying out, but in the heat of battle, he couldn't find the words. The berserker blood was running thicker than ever before, inciting a deep violence within the nord - he yearned for the quick-release of blood and fury. But despite this ages-old unnatural call, he had not yet been consumed wholly, there was still a corner in the back of his mind that fought-back against the viking's curse. Haldor was not yet a monster, and he held onto hopes proved true that this blood lust would fade soon - as it always did, as it always had done. But then the crowd were roaring, eager chants for the spilling of lifeblood filled his already-clouded head with angry whispers. The greenskin woman was lying weak on the floor, greatly injured, but still breathing. The watchers were calling that he finish her off. "I... can't. This... wrong. I... will... not... murder." The voices cried louder. "No! Damn it, no!" Behind his eyes, another, darker voice cried out. "Do it! Do it!", Haldor could no longer control himself. The weight of his burden rang loud, threatened to crush his skull. He had no hope of resisting any longer, the nord knew that. It was an abhorrent, brutal thing. Charging forward, sceptres drawn, screaming an unwanted battle cry of filth that he hated to utter. Before long he was there, weapons raised high, crying out. The fragment of his humanity long-since locked out by his bloodline's 'gift', he felt close to collapse. Soon it would be over, he prayed, soon it would be done. He would never have to go through this again, Haldor fragile vowed, hating himself for this brutality. "I... can't. Forgive me." Galixyush'a cried out. Back row. Amazon LEGO discount party! Woo! So, I've discovered exciting £7.00 off discounts on Amazon's LEGO store. So, which of these sets do you think is best worth picking up for the interestingly low price of £13? 76000: Arctic Batman VS. I reckon that Heroica should start putting up notices: Only those with mental stability past this point.

Haldor swings limply towards Leofold, from the back row. Battle Order: Xander Mizuki Romulus Haldor -
For which god/belief system/culture is it for? If it is irrelevant to your character, you may want to just have Byblos 'find' a document about it in the library.
-
Again, this varies quite a lot with the respective gods.
-
As the creator of the god: I don't think Riktvard (this is his most common name, correct name. Haldor's use of Thoric is much more of a local thing.) would take an interest in dwarves, unless they were Norse or somehow impressed him (voice-in-the-head type contact, as with Haldor. I prefer not to have characters actually speak with gods, as that's just a great big cliché, and it's unfair to make one's character some kind of demi-god. Haldor believes that Thoric/Riktvard communicated with him, that's all.) Dwarves do have an important place in Norse mythology (both real and Heroican), but Thoric is not directly involved with them unless something causes his intervention - which in unlikely. I'm not sure that the dwarven gods have been established at all, but Oleg seems to be their type of thing.
-
Yeah, In this aspect, Heroica is like real-life. You get all kinds of beliefs and faiths, plus the fair number of ignoramuses who try and tell others what to or not to believe in. It makes things more realistic. For one: the Norse (Heroicia, not real) culture has a very ingrained afterlife belief, to the point that much of a Nord's life is spent trying to make enough of an impact to be allowed into Valhalla.

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis ~ Final Day

I'd also like to join in the applause and say: Sandy, those are some pretty AWESOME character designs. Only you could pass off some Sci-fii legs as medieval armour... and make it look good.- 109 replies

New owners probably. Somebody took over and tried to bring Meccano up to date - and failed.

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis ~ Final Day
Scorpiox replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
Ahh... so I must have missed something. Those killed by melee attacks during the night could identify their attackers? I was killed by a spell, so I wouldn't know. That seems to be kind of unbalanced, to my point of view. So those scum with melee weapons couldn't risk attacking anyone unless they were sure for a OHKO? I don't really agree with that. During the day, yes, everything should be open - but during the night, that's the scum's real chance to act, and this rule hampers them quite a lot.- 109 replies

Well, what can I say? Although I didn't get to play for an awfully long time, the two days that I did play were ridiculously fun. I enjoyed myself so much, it was almost a disappointment to get killed-off so early. The one thing that I will say about the mechanics is this: Scuba the Dream-God was FAR too powerful. Having the ability to put to sleep pretty much all of his suspects changed the tide quite a bit. To my fellow players: thanks for putting up with me, I hope I didn't irritate or offend anyone with my playing - it was all in-character. I'm a little confused about some of the Town's tactics. After I died, the group seemed to mainly want to revive characters in a pattern that I don't understand. I mean no offense to HerrJJ, but why was Heron revived after being killed? If the motivation was ability-based, why was U'Dargen not resurrected? A dragoon is one of the most powerful classes, after all. If it was player-based, why was Calico not brought back? Pie seemed to be most active and helpful. I'm a little confused, that's all.- 109 replies

I hadn't really thought about it... I'd only assumed that one could hit two enemies two times each - to be honest I'd forgotten that it is possible to double-target an enemy with a dual-strike weapon until you brought it up recently. Therefore, dual-striking is basically a built-in hastened effect just for that weapon? Pretty exciting, I know what I'll be upgrading soon.
-
Shush. Wait... so a hastened hero wielding a dual strike weapon can potentially hit a foe four times? I'm definitely hanging onto these sceptres.

I believe that the rules for Jiins was changed some time after Quest #53 to a three-use mechanism... just a little bit after I used my (at the time) one-go lamp and had it fade to oblivion.

Haldor stumbles back onto one knee, blood leaking through his plate armour and through his fingers onto the dry sand of the arena. Despite his deep injuries, the nord felt no pain, or any other kinds of feeling to snap himself out of the battle-induced stupour. The berserker blood ran so deep that he felt nothing other than slowly gathering rage in the back of this skull. It took great effort and exertion for Haldor to try and heal himself, but despite his increased strength and resistance it would be a suicide to rush in again. He would have to bide his time. He grunted, managing only to mutter a name before he was overwhelmed. "Gerdur..." Battle Order: Xander Mizuki Haldor -
Maybe we could trade? Lifestealer for the Dualis Sceptres.
