Lots of plans, but too less time currently. I plan to build a Shell version of this truck and both will get trailers too. But I cannot give you any estimate when they will be finished. Besides that I have several other wip stuff, like anybody else too, I guess Cheers, Sleepie

Just open your drawers and follow the link in the first post

Hello all, some weeks ago I presented you my tank truck here. This week I had some time to take pictures of the brick-built model. Front: Rear: More pictures here (when moderated). If you want to build your own, visit this folder. Enjoy! Sleepie

Which tools do you wanted to use? I'm using LDView to generate the *.pov files from my LDraw models. It works like a charm, just play a bit with it, you'll like it. Another good resource with lots of tips & tricks around the LDraw tools is http://www.holly-wood.it/. Don't worry, I know what you mean Maybe you shouldn't dissamble you truck completely, just improve a certain detail you don't like and than go on with the next one until you are satisfied. Good luck! Thank you. I have already something like that in mind, but the Shell version will have a brick-built tank and other tweaks. Cheers, Sleepie

I have added some instruction shots to this Brickshelf folder. The folder isn't moderated yet, but should be public within the next 24 hours normally. Happy building! Sleepie

Hi Captain, sorry for the late reply, but real life occupied all my time lately. I'll add some instruction pictures to my brickshelf folder soon, maybe on the upcoming weekend if time permits. Possibly I can than also take some pictures of the brick-built model. I'll post an update when the pictures are online, so please be patient and check back in few days. The rendered pictures are created with POV-ray. So the first step is to build the model with MLCad and than use LDView to export it to a pov-file. LDView is imho a must-have tool for everyone who uses CAD-Tools that are using the LDraw parts library. It has many neat functions for fast rendering LDraw models, creating part lists, screenshots and exporting to various formats. It can also automatically search and download updates of unofficial parts used in a model and many other things. If you have any further questions, just let me know. Cheers, Sleepie

Interesting topic. I think Ralph summarized it very well. My thoughts on the topic are very much the same. Before no one comments on a MOC I posted, because nobody likes it I'd rather get constructive critism on how to improve it or why it is bad as just get no feedback at all. I'm doing LEGO as a hobby for only three years now (I did not have any LEGO in my childhood). The first real MOC I build must be about two years ago. I think my creations have improved a lot since then, but I'd still call me a 'beginner' and would be thankful for any tip and hint to improve my building skills. A special code or phrase in the topic title or initial post might be a good idea, to encourage everybody to give you this feedback. An index of building techniques sounds like a good idea. The questions how to group things in such an index so you can easily find it. Regards, Sleepie

Clever design. Thank you for the insight. Regards, Sleepie

Hi, this is really great. Nice part usage on the detailed engines. The two rods do remind me on the set 10200 Custom Car Garage in some way. Maybe it is just the colors you used. The brick-build road and the sand with cactus giving it the final touch. And I wish I could take such professional looking photographs of LEGO as you. Well done. One question, does a complete minifig fit in the cars or did you only use torso + head? Cheers, Sleepie

@all: Thank you very much for your kind comments. Yes, I don't use LDD at all ;-) My toolset for digital building is LDraw + MLCad + LDView + POV-Ray. Do you mean the model or how I created the render? Regards, Sleepie

Not dutch, I'm a german guy, so we are neighbors ;-) Yeah the weather in december was really crazy in december in most european countries. I can't remember that we ever had so much snow here. Greetings from sunny germany, Sleepie

Hello, today I want to present you my tank truck. It features the same color scheme as my snowplough truck and has other similar details. I build it shortly after it. I like the 3180 Tank Truck LEGO released last year, but it is too large to reach all arears in a town. So this one will deliver heating oil to my town citizen and is much smaller. One problem I have with the official set are the holes in the large curved slope bricks that are used to build the tank. It just looks a bit odd. I tried to hide them in my model, but didn't succeeded completely. Anyway, let pictures speak ;-) Edit: If you like it, you can build your own one using the pictures in this Brickshelf folder. Enjoy! Thank you. Maybe the reason is that snow is vary rare in a LEGO town ;-) But I guess you'll see many of them in real life, afaik the winter in canada is normally more hard than here in germany. Thanks Selander, I'm glad you like it. Oh yes, I can imagine. Hmm sounds like you should add a plow to your truck collection, too ;-) Cheers, Sleepie

Hi, a really nice long nose dump truck you have there. I like the functional features you have added to the model. As others already mentioned I'd also change the yellow 2 x 2 round bricks for tanks to grey or black ones. The trailer is a nice addition. I think next you'll need an excavator ;-) Keep it up. Cheers, Sleepie

Unfortunately, I have not an extra room for building, but I always try to not cover the whole floor ;-) And thanks for the welcome @all Cheers, Sleepie

Hello Fuzzylegobricks, well my brick-build model is not 100% identical, but the only reason for that is that I have not all required bricks in the required colors on stock at the moment (I don't have enough blue slopes for the roof on the saltbox). But all pieces used for this model are exist in the used colors. I didn't know if the used parts are available with the used colors in LDD. I don't use LDD. This model is created with the LDraw parts library using MLCad and than rendered with POVRay. But I guess that you cannot recreated this model with LDD, because I also used older parts (hinges) like 1, 2, 3 and 4, which very likely not available in LDD. Maybe an LDD expert can shed some light on it. My last trys with LDD were about two years ago, I cannot even tell you the LDD version I used at that time. LDD just didn't suit my needs and I moved on to the LDraw set of tools and never went back. For me this is more flexible, has an higher part availability and more possibilities, but that is just my opinion. Hmm, maybe I did something wrong. I'll try it again right away, but I read somewhere in the guidelines & rules that you need at least 10 posts to use certain features. Anyway no big deal and will work shortly in one way or the other. Thanks for your help. Thanks! Cheers, Sleepie

Thank you for your kind words, KielDaMan. I'd have deeplinked the images, but as I'm new I don't have this opportunity yet ;-) (But I can understand why the board admins don't permit this for new members to prevent image spamming) So thank you for doing it for me. I'll edit the initial post when I have reached the required post count. Cheers, Sleepie

Hi Selander, that is really an impressive collection. I also like the colors you have used especially the ones that use dark green and dark red. Somehow the dark colors make the models look even more real. The front of the trucks with the upside-down technique is a nice detail and something that I plan to use one of my next trucks. Keep it up. Sleepie

Thank you Ralph. I like your models a lot and got new ideas and techniques to use in my own models. And well yes, the color mix is intentional. I was inspired by real-life, because we had tons of snow here in december and many commercial trucks were retooled for winter service. The color scheme is based on the Octan colors. I'm working on a trailer for it at the moment, when that is finished I'll show it here without the snowplough. Regards, Sleepie

The model is already standing on my desk ;-) I make LDraw models for nearly all of my creations, sometimes before building it with realbricks, sometimes afterwards or I do it in parallel like with this model. Often you'll have to tweak some details when brick-building pre-designed digital models, because something is to weak or doesn't look as good as previously planned. And I often prefer to publish rendered pictures, because I'm not that good at picture taking and you don't need a sunny day to make good pictures :) Sleepie Edit: fixed a typo

Thanks. Already done, thank you for the hint. Sleepie

... Sleepie ;-) I have visited this site quite often during the last year and now jumped on the bandwagon. I came to LEGO through my children about three years ago and build mostly City/Town related stuff (especially everything which has wheels). I never had any LEGO in my childhood (it was nearly impossible to get in east-germany), so I bought my first LEGO set when I was thirty. And what should I say, it didn't take long to become totally addicted and the collection is growing since then. After I build my first sets and began to modding them I surfed the web and find out very quickly, I'm not alone. I was amazed how many adults are addicted to LEGO as a hobby. Well, today I know why - LEGO is really fun. Only my wife is not very amused sometimes if the whole living room is scattered with bricks ;-) Ok enough said for now. See ya. Cheers Sleepie

Hi everybody, after lurking around this site for about a year as a non-member I finally registered to get active ;-) Well my favourite LEGO theme is City/Town, but I'm also interested in many others like Creator, Technic, Train ... I came to LEGO through my children about three years ago and since then the collection is growing. To introduce myself I show you one of my latest creations. Its a tipper truck with a snowplough and a saltbox to de-ice the roads. Hope you'll like it. Regards Sleepie
