REVIEW: 9444 Cole's Tread Assault
sandro replied to Kadabra's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Picked up this set today, and love it from a feature standpoint, and I think it's pretty well done from a design perspective. My only issues are the slight gap in the cockpit sides (presumably to accommodate the rotating feature), and the lousy price/piece ratio. I don't really understand why this set is $15 more than 9442 with only 42 more pieces. It's especially hard to swallow when there are so many small bits in the set (technic pins, etc). I think this set is great, but I recommend waiting for a sale down to about $32 or less to pick it up. -
I am from the US, not sure but I thought clawing was in the UK (since he's looking for the best PAB in the UK). I didn't know that about the PAB boxes. Maybe I should sell them to defray the costs of a 10188. And I didn't get any ArF troopers (now or previously). I didn't even know the stores had them.

His store must be really nice. I bought 10221 and 10210, but only got 1x since it was all on one transaction (but I got a 20% off peel-off, so no worries). I did get 4x PAB boxes though.

Hrw-Amen, I agree the cost and quantity question is hard to answer given we know so little about some of the ideas. But since Lego isn't asking us to commit to buy any, I treat it as the hypothetical question that it is. "If TLG made an official set like this MOC, how much would you spend on it". One thing I recommend for those who haven't done so already is to check out the original projects for the two production CUUSOO sets. The initial models weren't as nice as the final versions, and the official comments from LEGO that were made along the way are really interesting behind the scenes looks at the process they're using.

Oh yes, I definitely have. In fact I think I end up asking about the same stickers every year when I'm on the line for other reasons. I've even gone so far as to ask them to pass the reprint suggestion up the line. The sets I'm interested in are the older sets where the stickers crossed multiple bricks and/or were used on windscreens (7191, 10129, 10019). As far as I recall those were the worst offenders. I don't really support them either, but since I saw that Lego is willing to accept reissue requests as part of Cuusoo, I don't mind them so much. (Note: I voted for 10190, mostly since I think that set is a good parts pack). Mostly I see Cuusoo as TLG attempting to give us some direct input into the future of the brand, and I want to do everything I can to support this trend. So far the most interesting thing for me has been to see the official comments from TLG on the projects. When the Minecraft project hit 3000 supporters LEGO indicated they had reached out to the creators to check on the possibility of a license, and that they felt it would be possible to strike a deal so the project should continue. I was shocked to see that LEGO was taking the idea that seriously, and that they had gone through the trouble of making official contact with another company with less than 50% of the supporters they indicated would be needed. I think the community has a real opportunity to work with LEGO on making CUUSOO all that it can be and to get the kind of input I've seen requested time and again.

Actually I'm with AndyC. But I have every other UCS set from the OT so far, so this one is hard not to pick up for completeness sake. Then again $400 is pretty powerful disincentive. If I can get one much cheaper I'll probably pick it up if only because my kids would love it.

Hmm, good point, I wonder why they don't release both.

Ah, I take your point then. Unfortunately, unless people get excited I don't think there will ever be anything to buy. I have three projects I proposed so far: Single Color Parts Packs Zombie Apocalypse Reissued UCS stickers So I'm trying a gamut of ideas from reissues to a full theme. I don't have a single MOC that I'm proposing because that's not my strong suit.

I thought since Lego opened up Cuusoo worldwide, that the models were going to be available worldwide from now on. Is it only restricted to Japan?? (I know the first two were, but they also only needed 1,000 supporters instead of the current 10,000). Edit: Actually, I'll answer my own question. Here's the clip from the Cuusoo site: So Siegried, looks like it might be time to get excited!

I've been looking around the LEGO Cuusoo site, and while I admit it's hard to find projects on there, I'm wondering why it isn't more popular. They seem to be willing to take almost any suggestions from the community (new sets, re-issues, etc) as long as we can get 10,000 supporters for the idea, but I don't see a lot of great MOC's up there. And the ones that are there don't seem to have much support. So far the most popular project is a Lego Minecraft project with close to 5,000 supporters, but this seems entirely driven by the Minecraft community, and I wonder how many users here are supporting that project. Can anyone tell me why Cuusoo isn't more popular?

This is just the kind of scene I was thinking about earlier today when I added a Zombie Apocalypse theme request to Lego Cuusoo. If you would like TLG to consider making official Zombie sets, please head over there and support this project: http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/3984 -Sandro

I'm sure there are licensing issues that prevent them from just sending out images, not to mention that Customer Support probably doesn't have any way to get the digital images from the stickers. When I place orders with the US customer service the actual stickers get shipped from Denmark. Head over to Cuusoo and support the project, if we can get 10,000 people to support it, Lego promises to do an official review of the feasibility of going forward with it. If I don't cover stickers you're interested in, just leave a comment and I'll amend the project.

I just started a project at LEGO Cuusoo requesting reissued stickers for some of the earlier UCS sets. Check out the project, and lend your support (we need 10,000 people to initiate a review by the LEGO group). http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/3975 Thanks!

The good news is that I managed to piece together Market Street for a "reasonable" amount. I think it came to around $250, without resorting to using parts from my existing inventory. The only parts that aren't exact matches are the white hoses with tabbed ends. I swapped in regular ended ones to save $40. Still 3x RRP, but much less than the $500+ it's going for as a set.
