9397 Technic Logging Truck

When building my latest Lego Set (#8049) one piece happened to be missing. It had never happened before. I filed a request for missing parts on the Lego webpage, waited a few workdays and then received a new piece and an excuse letter from Lego. Of course I was frustrated by not being able to continue my build at first, but "sh*t happens" and the customer service I received was plain and simple top notch. /Kristian -
I am MORE than impressed. This is pure art. But I am also wondering where did they got all the bricks to complete such a piece? Bricklink? Wouldn't that be one very large investment? /Kristian

LEGO Technic Mini Mobile Crane MOC

Fantastic! I really like how you managed to fit so many functions in such a small scale! Congratulations! And you have many solutions that I'd like to try on my present MOC attempt. I was playing with the idea of using a worm gear straight on a rack to achieve a compact assembly...I'd like to see how your solution. -

Update time: I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that I managed to put together a rather acceptable mechanism for raising and lowering the 3rd axis and also to fit a motor within the frame above it. It works quite ok and compared to the version in the first set of pictures, this one have a much longer vertical stroke. I hope you can see something in the pictures above... The bad news is I don't like the end result when I start to put together things. Tow trucks a beefy, compact but powerful. The fifth axis outstretches the vehicle too much I think, and it ends having way too much empty spaces... I'd better get rid of that fifth axis, don't you think? Another feature I want to have on this machine is "swinging" fwd outriggers, as you can observe on the picture of the Scania truck I posted previously. That is next on my list of things to tackle. If the result should be pleasing, I'd like to try redoing the cabin as well... -

Ok, let's try again with pictures this time... What I want to do is modify the crane truck into something like this: But I want to add a 5th single wheel axis in front of the boogie. Also I want it to have a crane and a tow-bar. So what I have done so far is starting from Han's modifications, I raised the XL motor to free space for a transmission axis to the last axis. Then I "let me inspire" from the 8285 Tow Truck for the tow bar that you can see here: Finally a view of the things in becoming: I'm having a hard time with the 5th axis that I want to be liftable. I don't want to use pneumatics, but the best mechanism I could fit so far is shown here: It works, but it's far from good. Moreover, I think that fitting a motor there will be a challenge...Any tips here are MORE than welcome!!! Well, I hope I'll keep you updated with progresses. Please don't hesitate to comment: I feel that I have much to learn! /Kristian
