wow, some interesting and very valid responses there. i've put backs and roofs on the facades of my buildings, so as they fit in smoothly with the neighbouring cafe corner etc. i found i saved a lot more bricks by leaving out the interior detail. maybe if i was willing to let children touch and play with my creations, then i'd go to that extra effort with the interior. gee this building thing can become an expensive little hobby! my latest (still unfinished) design is 8000bricks and counting, gonna set me back a few dollars!

after looking at pictures of some of the city buildings people are designing, it got me thinking, what is the preferred building style of the masses - do you build in the traditional 1980's set with the open-back style, do you have lift off levels to gain access inside, or do you (like me) build facade only? i personally prefer to build facade only, i dont really care to much what the inside of the building looks like, as long as the outside looks top notch. but should i change my technique now before it's too late, or are there others out there who build like me? thought people might like to reply to this post and list a few pros and cons of their preferred building style?

Greetings all, my name is ben and i'm from australia, i was once an architect but am now a primary school teacher. i got my first lego at age 3, set #6824 to be precise, way back in 1984. after a 15 year hiatus of not touching the stuff, i got back into lego through using it to make stop-motion animations with my grade 3 class. I am extremely fond of building facades, and like to attempt lots of historic buildings etc. i have plenty of experience using cad from my architecture days, so LDD has been a revelation for my designing. still getting used to some of the features, and have to convince the missus that it is wise to spend thousands of dollars and devote a corner of the house to my city design! attached is my most recent re-design of the Epsom clock tower (this was where i got the image to base it on http://www.epsomandewellhistoryexplorer.org.uk/EpsomClockTower.html)

okay, so i've spent an eternity designing my facades with the vast array of extra brick colours and shapes available in the universe mode (huge thanks to Vincent Kessels for letting me know this function existed!), now how can i purchase my creation without changing all the bricks to other colour/shape options? these parts are not available on Pick a Brick either. hope someone out there knows the answer?

firstly, your work is amazing, true inspiration towards lego building brilliance. these questions are probably meant for another forum, but you appear to be the sort of man who can answer my questions - you'll have to excuse my ignorance, (i am only just rediscovering my lego building skills after 20years absence from my childhood days) but where can you get a hold of all those different coloured bricks? LDD is a bit restricting, as it will only offer certain parts in specific colours. my next question is i am a reformed architect obsessed with facades, so my lego creations are usually facade-only, but what's the common building technique, do most people usually put a back to their buildings? i notice most of your works have lift-off levels for internal access. should i change my technique now before it's too late, or are there others out there who build like me? attached is a screen-shot of a recent design of mine for your advice/feedback, based on a picture of the tibbits opera house (link to the image i based it on here ) a lot of the bricks have changed since my younger days, so i am still getting used to creating some of the finer architectural details.

sensational. great to see an aussie touch shining through. we used to have heaps of these here, until recent rain washed them all away! queensland is a giant lake right now...
