Perhaps it's a query as to whether the particular themes will be discontinued by TLG?
-
I'm a software engineer specializing in distributed application design and development ( read: webmaster). I'd much rather be a railroad engineer. But alas, I'm too old for a career change.
-
Very nice Sava. Makes me want to go to the state railroad state park. Btw, where at in Texas are you?
-
I'm loving this Jimbo. Keep going. Very inspiring work, and hopefully it will rub off on my freight/crew change yard.
-
Thanks! Actually, the truck is there and got cut from the frame. Wider view attached for reference :) I agree, and if you look behind the office, you'll see the guy taking his union-mandated nap.

Because these guys are building it! Was just going to set up a construction site, and this vig was dying to be made. I love the construction theme, and should use them more. Perhaps I will... As always, C&C welcome.

Thanks. I still need to build a fence around the freight yard, but I like it's location. Only wish I had more space for multiple spurs. And I'd prefer a diesel locomotive, as that's what we have here in the states. Waiting on the Maersk train I guess, though I might MOD this one since Union Pacific is mostly yellow, and the predominant line around these parts. Thanks Jay! I don't know if the nike shop will stay where it is, at this point it's a place holder. I'm going to build outside dining for the pizza shop for sure. There's a really good burger joint here in San Antonio that is right agaisnt the UP freight yard, so I'm going for some along that line. As for the bank and house by the airport, I'm trying to create a more suburban area, and think a bank down town would be less 'modern' looking.

Ok - I got a lot done over the weekend, even thought the snow was gone by early afternoon Friday - Here's what happened to the airport - Ariel View And street level - And here's downtown - Aeriel 1 and 2 And street level 1 2 3 And the freight yard Please let me know what you all think.

Yes, it's 14feet by four feet. It was originally going to be an O scale train layout, before the return of Lego to my life. I'm on my mobile, so the best I can do for a long shot is a link to one I uploaded to flckr - http://m.flickr.com/#/photos/55775799@N06/5418554841/sizes/m/

So, it's a snow day here in Central Texas, and I can't get to work, so it's a perfect opportunity to get my lego city straightened out! The area is 14x4', and here is it's current state - The West Side - this is supposed to be the 'downtown area'. The issue is where to put the yellow train station and courthouse. I'm thinking about putting the whole area one baseplate back, but this will require moving the freight yard behind the modular buildings. The central area - This is the 'residential area'. I really want this to be a transist-oriented walkable type community with mixed residences and businesses. Obviously the things like the Crystal King and Nuckel's ATV must go. East Side - This is the airport area and is total mess as a catch all. The airport and the train track get in each other's way. I'm totally open to suggesstions And in between the residential area and the airport - the Grand Carousel, around which I'd like to build a carnival/theme park area. I'd really appreciate suggestions, and will post updates as I work on it today. Seems like the perfect bad weather project.

It's got to be at least 5 counting the tan windows...

Jimbo this is awesome. Between looking at the stuff you and LightningTiger build, I want to completely scrap my city an build it from scratch. I even went and picked up an apple tree house the other day when TRU sent me a 20% off coupon.

"I prayed you bring me a fresh horse..." I took some of the advice offered here in creating and photographing my second wild west vig. Please comment and criticize.
-
I'm speechless. Everything about this is incredible. Great work!

Thamks guys! It's funny y'all mention the vigas. They are a glaring discrepancy that I've already incorporated in to my next structure. I live in San Antonio, and grew up in the Southwest, and just didn't even think about them until after I'd photographed the scene. Thanks again for the comments and advice.

Thanks all. Most of the collectible minifigs give me ideas, and since I have all my brown and tan bricks sorted (a long term project), I was able to enact one. I have a few more, and think I can do better.
-
I struggled with the bareness of it, but anything I added just seemed out of place, from an outhouse to a group of pigs. Thanks. It just didn't look right in color.

I've been wanting to post a vig for a while, and came up with this one over the past couple of evenings. Comments and critique are more than welcome. "The friendly bandito offers to relieve the cowboy of his map, while the hapless senorita dreads the mess she'll have to clean up soon..."

I picked mine up at the Lego Store two days before Christmas. Haven't seen it in Target yet, and I'm there often scouring for polybags.

NINJAGO spinjitzu-duel tactics
TWTaylor replied to 9thDragonfly's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
There are a few things you can do, tactics wise, that can help. - Weapon choice. Soft weapons like the katana and the morning star are not as effectice as stiff ones, like the staff or the spear. The softer weapons 'give' a little on contact, and aren't as likely to knock your opponent off. - Where you hold your weapon. You have to set them up where they can contact the opposing minifig. Aside from that, you could hold it high or low. I recomend low, unless your opponent is holding some kind of force-shield card, in which case you want to raise it so that it strikes the minifig and not the bricks. There is a card that you can use to make them play with their fig bent over backwards, in which case you'd want to have it low as well. - My personal favorite weapon is the nunchucks, as it can actually wrap around you opponent and pull him off. - Pick your cards wisely. They have profound effects on gameplay. Personal favorites are the one that allows you to use two weapons (Power Up), that allows you to pick which weapon you forfeit (Hold Out), pick weapon your opponent forfeits (Pick and Choose)), and keeps your opponent from playing any cards (Card Freeze) - When you spin, keep your hand low on the spinner, so as to not hit your own weapons accidentally and knock your fig off balance. Those are my first thoughts. I'll try to think if there's anything else to add. Good Luck in the Tournament, Tom -
I love this. But the fact that it is on the floor makes me extremely nervous.

I can't help but wonder how many poeple have tried the spinner game aspect of Ninjago. I know a lot of AFOLs have commented on not getting the spinners, but we're actually enjoying it quite a bit. To the point that so far I've based my purchase decisions on whether or not the set comes with additional cards! The SPinjitzu Dojo ad Battle Arena for those keeping score. I can't stress enough how nice it is to see my kids (and self) on the floor playing with their legos. For those AFOLs who don't care for the game aspect, please feel free to contact me about sending me your cards. Between me and three kids, we could always use more. :)

Definately not. And I don't think you'd find any creative person who thinks so, either. My entire family (me 40, my wife 37, son 16, son 11 and daughter 8) all build, and many of us play to some extent. My wife recently finished the Tower Bridge to go with her other landmarks, my daughter is building the Hogwarts Express, the teenager is trying to add power functions to one of his technic buggies and we've all been playing Ninjago like mad. Our entire loft is taken over by a 14x4 Lego city which is pretty much dad's domain, the younger son imprisons the Hero Factory villains in between the DVDs on the shelf. Eveyone of their friends are contantly wanting to come up stairs to see what's new, and all their parents and our adult friends are fascinated by it. We're also professionals or good students and athletes. I'm also a part time musician and Harley Davidson rider. No one I know calls us nerdy, but if they did, so what. As Dr. Seuss says 'those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

I love your vigs Helena. As an avid City collector (currently obsessed with Ninjago), I build things like this all the time, though not this well. I love the radar dish as a water distubance. I'll have to see if I can kick up my vigs a notch and post something worthwhile.
