Thanks everyone for the comments. The front windows and the low hood are very distinctive features on this train so i spent a lot of time getting the windows right. I am happy with the look of the train I just wish I could sort out the last of the decals to finish it off. I will post up some pictures when I have all the decals done.

That is awesome. So much detail and great building techniques. Would love to see it running :)

Hello i just thought i would share a MOC that i have been working on for some time now, It is of a Tasrail DQ class loco number 2012 that was painted to commemorate 75 years of continuous mill operation at the MMG Rosebery mine. I have started a MOC of another dq class loco in the old red and yellow livery with 2 power function m with both front and rear trucks powered unfortunately i can not fit the battery and ir receiver in the loco so it will have to go on a separate wagon, I will post up some pics once that is complete. Now i have to give alot of credit to Daniel aubin for his instructions for the GE C30-7 on railbricks as i used the 3 axle truck design and got alot of ideas from that train. Now i think my pics are to big to deeplink to the site so i will just link to my brickshelf folderhere Hereis a link to a photo of the real loco Let me know what you think and any ideas for improvement. Here is a few resized images.

Gearing a XL or M Motor for a LEGO MOC Train
adrian_dixon replied to Tearloch's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Here is a link to a moc i am working on at the moment i am trying to fit 2 m motors inside the 5 wide body. I reckon i will have to put the battery and receiver in a container car or something. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=5290788 -
This has been talked about in another topic but the trucks on the maersk engine create a fair bit of friction witch can be fixed by rebuilding the trucks using normal train wheels instead of the technic beams and axles. I have not got the maersk engine yet but did rebuild one of the trucks on my red passenger train with standard train wheels and it made a fair bit of difference to the rolling resistance. So perhaps if you try this the Rc train base might be able to be disguised as a freight car to push the maersk.

I'm really looking forward to getting one of these stunning sets. Now all you Australians out there can you tell me where the best place to get one from is? And when are they scheduled for release over here? Will they be available at your local toy stores that stock Lego products? Thanks guys

My emerald night arrived in the mail today! I bought it of eBay for 121 Australian dollars unbuilt in the packets just with no box. I can't wait to get home and build it! It sure looks like it's going to be a fun build.

Awesome moc. Is this engine going to be power function? if so where is the ir receiver going to go? thanks

How do i do that? thanks

I was not really happy with my last effort of putting power functions in this train so After looking at the maersk train i borrowed a few ideas of it to fit the power function battery pack into the 4 stud wide body of this train. I used snot to put a plate over the side of the battery box, mounted the ir receiver in the cabin and made the top section removable to switch the battery box on and off. I am really happy with this setup but i still reckon i will be making some more slight changes. I just uploaded a couple more pics to my brickshelf gallery. http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4853816 http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=4853819

This is my first attemp of powering the #4 hobby train with power functions. I chose this engine because i liked the look of it. At the moment i have just borrowed the motor, battery and IR reciever from my passenger train, due to the design of the engine there is not enough room for the battery or IR receiver so i have made a cargo wagon to house the battery and receiver from the left over parts from the hobby train set. It is nothing special and i will b definately changing the cargo wagon but just thought i would put a couple of pictures up. Has anyone used the flexitracks and straight tracks to make large radius curves?. ie, one straight, one flexitrack, one straight, one flexitrack etc. I plan to make a large layout around my home when i get enough track to run the trains at full speed. so far i have used the 16 pieces of flexi track that come with the passenger train and about 16 straight pieces of track to test this method out and although it was only about 3 meters of track i was able to link it up using lots of curves in a snaking fashion and run my train on it. I was able to run the passenger train at full speed on the large radius curve section but of course had to slow down for the standard curve radius at the end. I had no derailments and the noise level was about the same as the standard track if not just a tad higher. The train ran smooth with only a slight wobble as could be expected but i would imagine this wobble would be less noticable if the curve radius was made even larger (i had it pulled around as tight as it would go). All in all i am happy with the way the train ran on this setup and cant wait to get some more track to make a large layout around my house i think the flexi track is a good thing for pf trains if used right. hope this helps

Hello i am new here I just got my first two lego train sets. I got the power function passenger train set and the hobby train set. I built the crocodile engine with the hobby train set because that was the only one it showed you how to build in the instructions but there is heaps of different trains on the box. Is there anywhere i can download the building instructions for the other trains as i would realy like to make one of the diesel freight trains on the box. thanks in advance
