The point of LEGO not doing a theme like Call of Duty goes deeper than that. LEGO works hard to maintain an image of being a family-friendly company. I never see parents who worry about their kids watching Star Wars, but I've seen a lot of concern (some justified, some not) about their kids playing violent video games. Plus, while some of the movies Lego's done themes based on have been PG-13, M-rated games are essentially the equivalent of R-rated movies, and LEGO's never done a theme based on one of those. But this is getting off-topic. I see no reason why LEGO's violence policy would affect a LotR theme.

Standard response. I've seen a million like them. All it means is that if a theme is coming, it's still under wraps. And we kinda knew that.

No, it looks to me to just be Dark Brown.

FBTB commented that they wish he had gotten a scratched up coin instead, so he didn't always have to make the "good" decision. But I saw someone point out a better idea: since the set has both his coin and an extra, you can use a fine-tip marker to "scratch up" the extra one yourself.

Ninjago Booster Packs - 9551, 9552, & 9553
Lyichir replied to Tung T. Le's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I can't see how it would make a very good exposed ribcage considering the painted on appearance, but whatever. If you cover up the collar with a neck accessory, would it be possible to cover the "5" the same way? -
Not just the printing. One of the things that makes minifigs so expensive to produce is that the torsos and legs are preassembled from multiple parts, as opposed to most standard bricks, which are simply injection-molded and put into sets as is.

PotC DIDN'T kill Pirates. The 2009 Pirates theme was never intended to last multiple waves. They were going for a brief revival and that's all. I imagine they'll do the same thing again with Pirates five or so years down the line; unlike themes like City, Pirates is a lot more sporadic. And if Lego decides to do LotR it doesn't mean they're too "lazy" to think up their own themes. Lego currently has a lot of original themes, even though they don't all fit in the classic City/Space/Castle categories we've gotten used to. Ninjago in particular is getting a lot of their attention.

Hmmm... from both my meager understanding of Transformers and my somewhat better understanding of Throwbots/Slizers, I really feel this guy needs wheels on him somewhere. Honestly, I wouldn't have known he had anything to do with the original Turbo, or that he was meant to be a transformer, if you hadn't stated it.

I'd think it'd be pretty easy to mod it so that R2 attaches that way. The main parts you'd need are 2x4 Dark Green plates, and those aren't exactly rare.

Very cute! Could you show us how her hair is on a regular minifig?

There are Dark Horse sets now?!? That's not what you meant? Oh. You went and got my hopes up. :P

I think he's referring to the "Dynamic Duo Funhouse Escape" set featuring Harley Quinn and Riddler.

While it's true that standards have risen, in my mind that's even more of a reason to reissue. When the Bongo was first released, there weren't even any curved wedges, and it shows. I doubt they could make a perfect Bongo, but since LEGO has undergone so many paradigm shifts since the original (such as the addition of curved slopes and the removal of the old hinges), they could no doubt do one that is closer to the actual ship. But anyway, this is kind of getting off topic.

Maybe, but there's plenty of ships they could revisit and have them feel brand new. I'd personally like to see a new Gungan sub; the old one is INCREDIBLY outdated.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Lyichir replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't see it jumping off store shelves either. But that's assuming it'll be in stores, which I see as unlikely. I think it could be genuinely successful as a D2C (Direct-to-consumer) set, purchased online through LEGO's website. Minecraft is a phenomenon, and if LEGO can make a set to attract its massive fanbase they could have a real success on their hands. Will it work? I'm not sure. But the fact that the creators of Minecraft are on board with it helps a ton -- imagine if the first thing to reach 10,000 was something like Halo, which already has a deal with Mega Bloks... *crosses myself fervently* Anyway, where was I? Ah, yes. This suggestion picked up steam incredibly quickly, and hasn't lost it yet. So I'm not counting this as a failure unless LEGO outright states that sets can not, will not happen. -
That often happens when LDD is having trouble processing. How big is the model you're using it on? Often I find it helps to copy and paste the parts you're attaching it to into a new file, flex it there, and then copy and paste the flexed chain back to your original model. That's not to say that this isn't a bug, but just me trying to inform you of some workarounds.

Did you accidentally post this in the wrong place? This'd fit better in this new topic. This topic is about a rumored non-licensed action theme, so it's definitely not Godzilla.

I love the extra one, being in one of those animatronic fortune-telling machines! This new set is absolutely amazing. I love how vibrant and colorful it is while still conveying a sense of danger.

The reason for flesh, in my opinion, was Lando. Yellow has usually been considered racially negative in LEGO, but when LEGO had to make a fig of Lando Calrissian, it just wouldn't look right in LEGO. But having just him as a colored minifig almost seemed racist in itself, so by the time the NBA sets rolled around fleshies were the name of the game. Personally, I have nothing against fleshies. They've worked well in a lot of ways, especially where skintone variations are critical to a character (Yellow-skinned Palpatine looked terrible in my eyes). With regular non-licensed themes, yellow is still the name of the game, and I'm happy with the split.

LEGO® CUUSOO 空想 - Turn your model wishes into reality
Lyichir replied to CopMike's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Don't be so negative. LEGO's response so far has been extremely accommodating, and the fact that the creators of Minecraft seem totally on board could help immensely. I wouldn't be surprised to see a set or a small (1-3 set) theme by the end of 2012. -
Good luck. Aanchir and I have been trying to sort our LEGO part-by-part for the better part of a decade. LDD probably gives you a good head start, though.

Bright Red is the official name for standard red. I just realized why Jawblade is a shark with fists. Apart from it being TOTALLY AWESOME, he had to have arms and fists so that the Heroes can use their Hero Cuffs on him.
-
Did you mean this? If so, it's neither of the things you suggested. That's a FANON wiki, meaning everything on it is fan-created. This is essentially someone's "If they did it, they could do it this way" page, not unlike a lot of what's been posted in the LEGO LotR topic here.
-
I'm confused. Are you saying you saw the book without the set, the set without the book, what? In the case of the book on its own, anyhow, it's definitely legal. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a used copy.
-
I don't know what you're talking about. I don't think there's any such clause in the agreements. However, it wouldn't be practical for LEGO to release a theme that is too similar to a currently-running licensed theme, seeing as having its own products compete with each-other would drive down sales of both lines. For instance, if LEGO had its own Pirates line running at the same time as Pirates of the Caribbean, some people who would normally buy the Pirates sets would instead invest in the PotC sets.
