  1. @Maaboo35 @2GodBDGloryIn that case I should amend my statement blaming Canada with the following: I also hate the US
  2. This is an actual joke: https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/ford-f-150-raptor-42126 It costs $140 CAD. It costs $250 AUD. $1 CAD = $1.08 AUD I hate Canada
  3. And no doubt the Canadians will get it for an absolute steal...
  4. Sorry I'm obsessing over the Australian price, but it's interesting. I'm really looking forward to seeing how much it'll be. On one hand, it's $300USD, which is ~$400AUD. On the other hand, it's also 400EUR, which is ~$470AUD. The set could be anywhere from $400 (likelier $450) to $500. EDIT: I've found a listing from Hobbyco, which lists it for $499.99. Given small retailers always sell for RRP, I think we're out of luck here
  5. I don't know for certain, but if it is $500AUD, then I don't think TLG have shown that much greed before. It'd be even worse than when 42070 came out. EDIT: Looking on the set listing on Brickset, the price is $300USD, which is ~$400AUD. If that's the case then the set may only be $450 if accounting for GST. If we're lucky then it'll only be $400 (which I'll add is still too much for me to consider buying).
  6. Yeah I think it's confirmed from leaked info. If it's true then the value just isn't there, full stop. It seems like a totally arbitrary cost increase. For comparison with the Volvo, the Zetros has: Fewer pieces (albeit a small amount, so this is largely arbitrary) One fewer function Fewer and smaller wheels One extra dumb motor Springs Planetary hubs instead of portal hubs One fewer diff The springs, planetary hubs and extra dumb motor just don't explain a $120AUD increase in any world. I could pay about $40 and get the four planetary hubs and springs to match (not even subtracting the cost of all the portal hubs). It's a real shame, but I think that consumers will agree. I reckon we'll eventually see this set available for $300AUD , or maybe even $270 on rare occasions.
  7. Personally, I think they look better when vertical, but luckily it's a 6x6 frame so it should be extremely easy to change!
  8. Yeah, I'm really looking forward to getting some of the new CVs on B&P
  9. It's up on S@H for $250AUD... jesus christ why does this thing not have a gearbox? It's the same set as the Dodge Charger yet they slapped on an extra $70.
  10. The only new piece in that is the LBG ball end. The red assembly is a red 4L axle connected to a 2L axle connector
  11. Yeah, besides my general disinterest in trial trucks (to preface, isn't a negative opinion of the set), the $500AUD price is the only thing making me see the set negatively. I would've expected this to cost the same as the Volvo loader.
  12. In the video Grohl says it’s in the front axle Regarding the gearing, the planetary hubs are 1:5.5 and the new diffs are 12:28. Depending on what’s between the motors and the diffs (dunno whether there’s a centre diff), we’re looking at a drivetrain gear ratio of at most 1:12.83
  13. @Igor1 No need to apologise my dude, no feelings have been hurt here. I must say that I haven’t seen any hints towards what you’re talking about with other sets. It’s all just kids playing with sets. I mean, for a girl she’s pretty androgynous, to the point that I thought she was a boy until I looked closer and saw the earrings. If we’re to talk about unnecessary discussions, then it’s worth mentioning that this discussion started only because someone decided that it was a problem that they couldn’t tell whether the character was a man or a woman, and decided that it was LGBT, when there was nothing explicitly so about the character (no flag, nothing) There’s nothing uniquely LGBT about her. In any case it’s probably worth stopping the discussion. It’s fairly clear that we have somewhat different social values, and we probably won’t come to a consensus on what constitutes as forcing one’s values on another.
  14. Photos don’t change my opinion of the set (still don’t care for trial trucks, would’ve far preferred a 6x6 pneumatic crane truck with RC drive), but Grohl’s definitely done a hell of a job designing this given the constraints he has to work with, and that’s without even taking into account the redesign from 6x6 to 4x4.
  15. We’re having a civil discussion, nobody’s attacking you. So having a short haired woman building a Raptor Technic set is LGBT ‘brainwashing’? That’s a very harsh thing to say. Why is a Raptor only for manly men to build? Are the men in the Technic promos building the Ducati, Lamborghini and Ferrari, as well as the boys building the Senna and Zetros, LGBT ‘brainwashing’ too? If you say every set then surely you must mean to implicate those too. If there’s Technic ‘brainwashing’ then I sure don’t see it. Note that you’ve also done exactly what I cautioned against and fallen into the trap of thinking that a social stance is chosen at the expense of set features. TLG has been skimping out on features for ages now.
  16. I should clarify that I meant social values. Why is the onus on TLG for this, when the controversy's purely from someone taking offense at their progressive stance? When have they caused controversy based on a 'political statement'? Last I checked, Women of NASA and Everyone is Awesome haven't generated any backlash, and they're the largest things in recent history that could do it. We're talking about this within the scope of having a woman with short hair building a Ford Raptor, let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Let's also nip this in the bud. It's well established that the tiny protest wasn't what cancelled the Osprey. That set never should have existed in the first place.
  17. This paragraph isn't addressed to you, but is addressed to anyone who gets triggered by the words TLG, gender and politics in close proximity: I wanna caution anyone against leaping to the conclusion that TLG using an androgynous woman in the Raptor set promo is somehow a decision made at the expense of promoting product quality and mechanical education. The two are very much mutually exclusive. TLG have been skimping out on car features for longer than they've been including nontraditional characters in Technic promos (they also continue to include traditional characters - just look at their use of that absolute snacc of a man in the 42107 Ducati promos). Whatever social values they promote don't affect the type of product they're putting out. Anyone who has a problem with TLG making a positive political statement purely because it's a political statement, which doesn't affect product quality, should take a step back. To address your actual comment, I don't blame them for following social trends. They're a profit-seeking company after all, and any chance they can take to improve public image and market share at little cost is a no-brainer. I do agree, though, in that I lament that they don't try to use the Technic theme as a tool to promote better mechanical learning by cramming more functions into sets, namely with cars. A car at the $100USD price point really should be an opportunity to introduce someone to car gearboxes. The standard three-function car (engine, steering, suspension) should be smaller, somewhere between the Senna and the Charger.
  18. I remember when watching the video that a bunch of the pieces also had colour issues
  19. Looks like it'll only be $160AUD or so, which is a relief given the lack of a gearbox. I don't like that there isn't one, and the sticker headlights seem lazy, but hey I wasn't gonna get this set anyway. I'd have preferred something closer to an actual trophy truck. In any case, it looks like a decent shelf queen.
  20. I can attest to this. For simple beams (in this case we can approximate it) it takes more force to buckle into the S mode shape than the C mode shape.
  21. But despite the lever nature of the mechanism, from the video it clearly shows that bending issues aren't really a problem. There's slight bending but it doesn't seem like anything major
  22. Lol, what did they cover in the two hours?
  23. I’d be okay with the 18+ if it included box art.
