Hello, I also have 12v wheels with a red pin normally there was a production of some models with a red pin. I will check it with a friend how told me the story. I checked it with my friend and he told me that there was a shortage of black pins in 1986. So Lego put red one in the place. So for models produced around 1986, it is possible that they have red pins. I had a 7821 with red pins and an other friend has a 7745 whit red pins. I hope this was helpful. Greetings, Christophe

About missing parts you can buy them on BL but it is sometimes expensive, check ebay of other sites for a model that isn't complete. A the moment I don't have spare engines but check on ebay and with a little bit of luck you can find one for 40 euro's. I never had to pay that much for a 12v engine. You better check on ebay in Germany, there you can find more parts for 12v trains. Greetings, Christophe
