  1. Yeah, I learned that fairly quickly, but it was kind of fun to see what LDD did with the 17k piece model. I don't think I would try 500k.
  2. Oh well... this gives me a chance to get creative. I will spend some time looking to see if I can find other ideas for creating sperical radar domes. Thanks!
  3. Okay I found the original designer and his model. The original designer never built it himself, so he doesn't have any screenshots of the model built with real bricks: http://mocpages.com/moc.php/376650?
  4. I just went to the designers MOC gallery, and it appears that the person that I got the model file from has taken down the pictures for that particular model.
  5. What stinks is that other than tan, all of the existing parts are transluscent, with the closest match being the black color. I am not satisfied with the result so far. The original designer posted pictures that were all grey, so I am not sure what he did. I will see if I can contact him.
  6. I have a model that is complex and around 17,000 pieces. I had already broken it down into sections and worked from there, but just for kicks I let LDD run for a long time to see if it would ever finish the instructions. It did, finally, after about 3 weeks and the end result was unusable. If I would have followed those instructions I would have built a huge section of internal support as the last part of the build.
  7. I am working on a Star Wars Star Destroyer design MOC that I got from another user. The design is great overall, but there are places where the designed specified parts that just don't exist. For example, part of the design calls for a 6x6x3 hinge windshield that comes in a light grey or light bluish grey color, neither of which exist. Other than the more recently introduced solid tan color, all other parts like this are transluscent. I need a solid light grey color. Has anyone run into a similar situation, and can provide any suggestions on how to solve the issue? This is an awesome model, and I hate for one part to become the reason that the overall model doesn't look good. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  8. Thanks again NathanR. I started doing what you suggested yesterday. I also decided to devide this model into more consumable sections using the assembly function, which allows me to order what I want for that assembly, build it, then move on to the next section. To answer LegoExpert's question, this model is close to 17,000 pieces. Yes, that is quite large for someone learning, but that's how my mind works best. I need a complex project to challenge me or I will get bored and won't learn. I know it sounds backwards, but over the years I have learned that this is what works best for me.
  9. Thanks NathanR. I suspsected that it could be that the instruction generator hasn't been updated for some time and therefore not capable of handling this model. It is quite large. I do want to build this model, however, so I'll have to figure out the best method to do it without any instructions to start from. This is going to be an interesting project. :) I will likely work on something else smaller at the same time for learning purposes.
  10. I am new to LDD so I thought the easier place to start would be to use a model someone had already built. I downloaded the model I want to build, opened it in LDD, then started the process to create the build guide. My problem is, the build guide progress bar gets somewhere around the 50-60% mark after 5 or six DAYS, then jumps back to zero progress and appears to start over. I have recreated this on two different computers, one of which is very well equipped. One person told me to forget about using the build guide, but the whole point of this first build was to learn the ins and outs of the software, even if the build guide utility is less than perfect. Any ideas on what might be going on? Thanks in advance! Jonathan
