  1. The Japanese did wear pith helmets in WW2, although I believe they were only standard issue for officers. http://www.diggerhistory.info/images/jap-m...n_hat_front.jpg The German Afrika Korps and the Italian military routinely wore the pith helmet/sun helmet into combat. Although I have seen pictures of British Army cavalry and infantry wearing pith helmets in the early part of the war I am not sure if they were worn in combat in North Africa or the Middle East. I also believe the Royal Dutch Army forces in Indonesia wore the pith helmet as well but I am not sure.
  2. "Builder Kits" that would consist of just figures? Like I have long wanted to increase my number of police and firefighters but in order to do so I have to either go to one of the minifig sale websites or buy another police car, firetruck, etc. So I was thinking why dont they just release something like this: Regular Police: - 4 regular officers with 4 white peaked caps, 4 plain white baseball caps and 4 assorted hairpeices. Motorcycle/Horse/Tactical Police: - 4 officers in the leather jacket uniform with 4 white helmets, 4 plain white baseball caps and 4 assorted hairpeices. Firefighters: - 4 firefighters with 4 white fire helmets, 4 plain white baseball caps and 4 assorted hairpeices. ditto for EMTs, doctors, etc Then maybe a special police accessories kit with radios, handcuffs, traffic wands, etc and a fire accessories kit with radios, breathing gear and air tanks, fire extinguishers, axes and other rescue gear, gray suitcases with a red cross on it to simulate first aid kit, etc Maybe we could even get Brickarms into the deal to release a special police weapons package that would come with some Colt .45s (being that it could stand for any semi auto pistol), and random assortments of M4s, shotguns and MP5s. Maybe they could also produce some riot gear like batons, tear gas grenade launchers (an M79 would do), etc.
  3. This was one of my favorite sets of all time for some reason. I used to spend hours playing with the little plane and the airstrip while ignoring all the other Lego sets (including my big favorites of police and fire/rescue) :-D I liked to pretend the plane was part of a rebel or mercenary air force and I attached some little black flagpoles to the wings as machine guns. I actually had a whole custom mercenary army (basically I took every civilian vehicle/airplane/boat I had and mounted them with machine guns, Bofors cannons, etc) and then I had them fight the Best Lock or one of the Lego rip offs that produced a military theme (looking at Best Lock's website my sets and figures look very different - im confused now since I swear they are Best Lock that I have).
  4. I tried putting some of the earlier series "floating boats" into my swimming pool ... needless to say the supposedly floating boat barely floated and this was on a totally flat surface, no cannon balls into the pool flapping around making waves or anything. My favorite boat would have to be one of the older police boats from the 1990s (cant find it on Brickset) because it was realistic in sizeand not like a huge Navy ship loaned to the police like the new police boat about the be released. I dont know about outside the US, but here I dont know of any police force with boats the size of a corvette or larger patrol craft like the US Navy's Cyclone Class. http://www.policeguide.com/Photo_Galleries...oat_suffolk.jpg The largest boats in my local police force look like this. Actually, that IS one of the boats in the Marine Bureau here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Bay_Con...e_On_Patrol.jpg Most are smaller boats like this.
  5. It looks to me that the little building is supposed to be like some sort of Customs checkpoint between one nation and another or like a toll facility on a highway. I like the little checkpoint but I think that should be part of a separate set and 7743 just having the Police Mobile Command Center truck.
  6. Hi all, I believe this is what he posted. Great movie btw. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunfight_at_the_O.K._Corral a little background for those who are unfamiliar with the story.
  7. Oh look ... another WW2 game thats already been done 1000 times already. I honestly dont think that the video game industry is aware that there were other conflicts besides WW2. I would love to see a WW1, Vietnam, modern, late 1800s/Colonial Era or Korean War RTS game instead of just producing the same game over and over with different names. How many times can you storm Omaha Beach, the Belgian forest or the streets of Stalingrad?
  8. Ah yes, one of the best war movies EVER made :-)
  9. I like the idea, very interesting. Here we have Fire Police that pretty much just direct traffic at fire incidents and major car accidents, etc. Some US states allow FDs have them like NY, Pennsylvania, Delaware, etc. It basically frees up the real cops to handle the real crimes (being that the "Fire Police" are unarmed and cant do anything besides traffic control basically they dont really have police status except in name). Very interesting though, some places have the police and fire department as one agency where the members are cross trained in both fire/rescue and law enforcement. An example is the Broward County Sheriff's Office in Florida or the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.
  10. I like the idea, however Lego is to PC to ever make something like this. Heres what you can do with minifigs: - Red IG with the shako can stand in for early 1800s to 1870s British Army in various locales - Red IG with the white police hat and or the white hat painted black can stand in for British Army in the 1830s to 1850s in India, Crimea, Africa, etc - Red IG with the White pith helmet can be used for 1860s - 1880s British Army, the red uniform was replaced by a khaki service uniform in the early 1880s though the red uniform is still worn today on ceremonial occasions. - Johnny Thunder and the German guy minifigs with either cowboy hats or pith helmets can be used for almost every European army from the 1880s until the 1950s and then just have the cowboy hat only and im sure you could cover some post WW2 conflicts. The Johnny Thunder figure with his hat makes an EXCELLENT WW1/WW2 Australian or New Zealand soldier. - You can also use the red IG figure for Canadian Army and Mounties in their battles with the Indians in the 1880s. - The blue IG figure can be used for frogs, same with the US Cavalry figures. Theres your French Foreign Legion! - US Cavalry figures with pith helmets and or cowboy hats also make great British colonial troops.
  11. I just use the standard weapons that Lego provided as flintlock pistols and muskets. If I wanted a blunderbuss I would just take off a bit of the musket barrel and glue it back together.
  12. Actually for early WW1 French you could use Civil War style kepis either kept the same or painted red and you could even use the same minifigs as Lego provided in the Western sets, some mfs should also have red pants for realism. For late WW1 French when they wore the Adrian helmet and either the horizon blue or the khaki uniform would probably require custom skins.
  13. I am so going to download this! It looks great. I just hope its not hard to use and I will be spared having to bash my head against the desk lol.
  14. What is this MLCad and where can I get it? I assume its a program that lets you design your Lego creations on the computer?
  15. I built it a very long time ago (before I had internet access and a digital camera) and I scrapped it to rebuild my Classic Castle sets.
