Kinning

I have 2x4ft wooden base boards down. The surface is bare wood, MDF I think. I haven't got all of my base plates as Im only starting. Is there any recommendations on painting or putting a cloth like material down. Thanks

Just though Id join as I'm in the stage now of building my old 90's lego up. Been on reading a good bit. My 4 year old son and I have taking over the roof space using some 4x2 baseboards the whole way round the room.
